Jim Harbaugh brought Michigan one punt away from a return to glory and it needs a deep rewind

- The fun thing about football is even the simplest moments have a seemingly infinite number of outcomes. When Michigan and Michigan State faced off in 2015 there was always bound to be plenty on the line regardless of circumstances for each side. But the way these school's paths played out for years leading up to this game seemed to force fate to end their showdown with some fireworks. Enjoy.

You can always gauge how incredible a play is by the amount Sean McDonough's voice cracks. On that metric alone this play is an all-timer.
😂😂
Man, I remember standing in front of the TV as neither a Michigan or Michigan State fan, and said out loud to my two brothers "Wouldn't it be funny if the punter dropped the ball?" We lost our collective minds when I predicted the future
Can confirm, flew by on my Unicorn and heard it. (If you're serious that's legit)
That play was just as crazy at that Melvin Gordon fumble that was a 15 point swing in one play.

My older brother ( Michigan fan ) looked at my cousin ( state fan ) and said "we win. Unless something stupid like a messed up punt happens, we win"
He then sat there speechless for 5 minutes
I was working at a bar in East Lansing during this game. Customers and staff alike all stopped an collectively held our breath on that play. The eruption and chaos that happened is surely something I will never experience again in my life.
Why did it have to happen to us
May every sports fan have their day
I was actually also at a bar but they turned off the game bc it was over. Imagine my shock when I hear the final

I’ll never forget this play because it was the only play of this game I got to see live. In boarding school in high school we only got tv time on the weekend, for just the briefest of moments I had the remote and managed to turn this game on for literally just this play before the rest of the students wanted it changed (they all hated football). What I think this video should've mentioned, right at the end, is that Jalen Watts-Jackson was brutally injured on that play and had to be taken to the hospital immediately after. Really contextualizes how hard he worked for that touchdown.

I was having my birthday party during this game, I heard they were winning and turned it on (because I wanted to watch them win) just in time to watch this play. Ruined my whole birthday, thanks harbaugh.
Not Harbaugh's fault on that one. You can blame his coaching shortcomings for a lot of what's happened during his tenure, but I'm not too sure about this one.
@@charlesmassie6775 MSU had everyone at the LOS, but UM had a gunner standing at the top of the screen blocking no one and doing nothing. Harbaugh shares responsibility.
I’ll always remember where I was for this play. About a dozen friends of mine had commandeered an apartment complex’s lounge to watch the stream on a big projector. It was on about a 45 second delay, and absolutely everyone was miserably awaiting the year of mockery that was ahead of us. We turn our attention to the screen to watch the U of M kicker seal our fate when one of the girls reads out a text she’d received “DID YOU SEE WHAT JUST HAPPENED???” And then we saw the biggest miracle unfold. There was so much screaming and running and hugging you would’ve thought we’d just heard we won World War 2. The long walk home in EL was amazing too, people running through the streets, dancing, you could hear shouting of GO GREEN about 20 times a minute. A day to remember, certainly.p
Pretty good. The one addition I might have made would have been the yardage stats in the game. MSU had a big yardage advantage, but a huge part of that was because Michigan's punter had been elite most of the game. It's one of the real ironies of that game
As a current msu student this is so satisfying to see a moment like this cemented in secret base history
I was sitting in front of the tv watching this with my Michigan fan dad, me being a spartan fan, and he was in the process of saying “whelp, better luck next year” as that play happened… best sports moment I’ve ever seen
I remember crying right before this play and then I went so crazy after. Wow
@@j2398 I was thinking the same thing
As an Ohio state fan, this highlight is one I visit religiously on RUclips. So glad I got to see it live.
It just happened but you guys HAVE TO do a rewind sometime on the Chargers-Raiders Week 18 SNF tie and they’re both in the playoffs scenario and how low the odds were of this happening, how Jacksonville upset the Colts, Steelers beat Ravens in OT, Herbert’s crazy heroics to tie the game and how Steeler fans were so nervous in OT. There’s so many storylines to rewind with this video, how the Raiders made the playoffs for just the 2nd time since 2002 with a mid season coaching change from the Gruden situation, as well as the crimes of Ruggs and Damon Arnette. Big Ben potentially playing his final game ever if a tie occurred and how the Raiders chose to send Pittsburgh to the playoffs instead of their hated division rivals by choosing to kick the FGs. This game and crazy 1st ever week 18 would be PERFECT to make a deep rewind video on! I love this channel so much, hope y’all see this keep it up
Man I remember sitting in my dorm freshman year with my roommate and his girl just being so down about the game but then the punt gets blocked all you can hear is noise throughout the building. An all time college memory for year. Many couches were burned in Cedar Village that night lol

As an Ohio State fan, i loved this ending. I remember my dad trying to turn off the TV because he said the game was over. I told him to let the clock run out because anything could happen, the rest is history.
If Michigan just gets that punt off, Ohio State wins the East regardless of the Michigan State loss, they go to the Big Ten title game and probably the playoff to defend their title
This play kept them out of the playoff

Michigan State will literally always have this, no matter what happens in the future between them and Michigan. It was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen.
I will never forget watching this unfold live…
That was my first game at the big house and I can remember that moment vividly. It was crazy how we all just sat there in stunned silence, just moments after celebrating as if we won the game.
Every time I watch this play, a contented little smile spreads, involuntarily, across my face. It is truly poetry. And you guys didn't even show the best part which is that Michigan fan with his hands on his head in utter disbelief
My dad was a Michigan fan. I go to Middle school then. I’m now an Iowa Student. I remember that pain

I wasn't at either school during the Appalachian State upset, but at another Big Ten school (Indiana), I was at their game that night when we heard the news. Indiana, of course, is a basketball school, not a football school, so anything we can get, we take. Several loud cheers erupted during that moment.
The call was tremendous, as well. Love it.
All time classic play/game, but I had forgotten some of the broader context. Nice rewind!
Omg I remember this play and was so happy!!!

I love you so much Secret Base. I need this today
And Geiger went on to hit the winning field goal against OSU!
I remember this play like it was yesterday. I hate Michigan football and was so upset about the game, but I was just getting ready to tweet "congrats" to Harbaugh for bringing that program back from the dead. The inner Spartan in me had seen them do the impossible against Ohio State in the Big Ten title game and the Cotton bowl in the previous two seasons, but I thought it was over. Then the play happened and I was in utter disbelief. It was truly one of those "do you believe in miracles" sports moments for me. Spartans got the win, Wolverines still got most of the hype moving forward and the rest as they say is history
I still don't think I've seen another game end anywhere near this way
I know it was in the NFL and it was over 40+ years ago, but the original Miracle at the Meadowlands is basically similar to this.
@@tevinsherrill5653 I'll need to look into that, thanks
Kick 6
Gotta love how great the blocks were from Michigan lol. Pretty sure not 1 MSU player was touched before they got the ball
It was mainly because state sent the house to block it. Its why on the original broadcast the color commentator mentions the punter needs to just kick the ball immediately because the line won't hold up for a normal pubt before the botched the snap
Such a consistency good channel I appreciate what you do thanks for the entertainment
I will never tire of seeing that clip
I watched that game live and it made me feel about the same as I did when the Patriots Malcolm Butler made the interception that changed that game outcome. and the look Richard Sherman had. It matched the faces of Harbaugh and the Michigan fans. I enjoyed the RUclips videos of the Seattle fans they recorded while watching at their homes and bars. the Michigan defeat was so good for me because since 1963 I've hated the Wolverines. I lived in Ann Arbor 1963 and attended the Navy-Michigan game, with Roger Staubach QB for Navy. He have won the Heisman the year before and he was known as Roger the Dodger. He ran around alluding he superior U.M. players and would either get a 1st down running around in circles it seemed or throwing for a gain. He was dominating the game. Until a U.M. linebacker who got tired of chasing Roger hit him way out of bounds after a scramble and drove Staubach into the bench. The 15 yard penalty was rewarded by a hamstring or heel injury bad enough to limit Roger the Dodger the Roger the statue , where Michigan dominated Navy. Ruining a very entertaining game. I moved to Utah after that and have be a Utes football fan and it has be fun to have beat the Wolverine every time we've played them.
In the early 00s, there was a Monday night football game, new england at Denver that really established brady as a Broncos fan. Down 3 in the final minutes, the pats gave up a safety instead of punting, flipping field position in hopes their D could get the stop and the ball for brady and the go a head. It deserves something because I've never seen anything like it and can't find anything about it anywhere.
One of your best ones yet.
I’d love to get reminders on more vintage plays! Like the immaculate reception maybe? Or the great Willie mays catch.
I listen to this call by Sean McDonough at least 10 times a year. One of the most entertaining moments/calls in sports history IMO
