Tweed just released their master plan to officially expand the runway. A few airlines are potential candidates for service there that includes allegiant and new airline Breeze (started by Jet Blue founder. I really hope things work out because i live in new haven and would fly out of tweed with direct flights to Florida, Chicago and Atlanta
@@moviewatcher1239 definitely do it. I was just in Fort Lauderdale 2 weeks ago and had a blast. I needed to get away from the northern cold and work. It felt great to decompress and relax
Feels good to come back to this comment as Avelo starts service in 2 weeks from new haven to Florida. Alot has changed since my original comment 7 months ago lol.
Tweed won to have the runway extended even more. There was a rumor that Southwest and other airlines had said if they extended it, they would start service .
Congratulations to Tweed New Haven Airport! I was a big proponent of the expansion and am glad to see that the extension was passed. I can’t wait to see what other airlines start to fly to HVN
Not Southwest, though Allegiant has committed to service once the runway is extended. JetBlue and Delta are looking at the airport as a possible route. The AA flights have all been upgraded to E175 aircraft as the loads have been very very high.
I grew up less than a mile from the south end of the runway. As a little kid I remember seeing American Airlines propeller planes (either Martins or Convairs) on the ramp waiting to load and take off. I really like the "Lightning Bolt" cheat Line livery on the old AA airplanes. Then came Eastern Airlines which flew 727s into Tweed for a while. That must have been thrill on the old short runway. Then Eastern decided that Tweed would be a feeder operation so they used a variety of aircraft to fly to either JFK or Newark. One warm and calm June Sunday morning while coming back from church we say a Lochheed Constellation taking on passengers at the ramp. We convinced my Dad to part at the north end of the runway while the old Connie took off towards us. It seemed like forever until it got airborne and was probably less than 200 feet above us as it passed over. AfterI left new Haven, I flew many times on Continental Dash 8s back and forth from Newark and on American Airlines Dash 8s back and forth from Philadelphia. Although I don't travel to New Haven anymore, I am sorry to see passenger flights cease at Tweed NH.
This is now a historical video. The runway was never lengthened, and now with COVID-19, American has dropped to two flights a day and will be discontinuing both flights as of October 2020. So this is the only video about this airport and it is now a historical document.
@@JPCAviation It is sad, as I don't think we will see this airport with operational air service ever again. Not with the short runway. It will just become an airport for local residents who own planes to fly into - if that is allowed. I doubt when there is a vaccine available that they will start flying here again all that rapidly. As it stands, Bradley to the north has very limited service now as the airlines dropped many routes already.

If JetBlue comes here I would be so happy
Now we just need some more jet bridges. Like 10 more

I can picture myself on that plane so relaxing isn't it I mean really I've never been on that plane before

Looks like there is still at least 1 Republic Airways flight to PHL daily, so maybe it’s not history.
american is back now. How long is still an unknown but they are back
