Terrific job of documenting this historic flight and making viewers feel almost like they were on board. Best wishes for Avelo's success going forward and hope I have the opportunity to fly the airline one of these days.
Great video my friend! I always love the flights where multiple channels are represented. Mine, yours, iTripReport, theplanesguy, etc. It’s always fun to watch each different editing style and get a whole different view of the flight. As always, it was great seeing you and everyone else again. As always, I’m looking forward to the next big flight we’re all on!
New Haven has been an underserved airport for decades. New Haven county is nearly a million people. Many go south to Florida in the winter, so flights south are sure to be a home run. There are many schools in the area, such as Yale, UNH, QU, SCSU, USCG academy, Wesleyan, Conn College. Etc. not to mention Yale New Haven Hospital, Alexion, Pfizer in the area. New Haven seems to be making massive growth post pandemic. Many folks I’ve talked to have had nothing but good things to say, and I’ve heard many flights are full. Hoping Avelo can turn a profit and continue this operation out of tweed.
Wow! I never even knew about this new airline, cool to see another airline. And honestly Avelo looks like its a fantastic airline, I would totally try it out soon! cool video and thanks for uploading it! :D
Great video as always! Being a CT resident I have never had occasion to visit the New Haven airport. Back in the 80's Air Wisconsin would fly a BA146 into HVN and then skip over to Bridgeport (Literally a 10 mile flight) and continue onward to Washington Dulles. I hope this new service is successful.
Nice video....I could spot Jensen Beach and Hutchinson Island as you crossed over the east coast of Florida. Avelo looks great...nice travel option for us New Englanders.
Former Southwest 7H4’s N905WN (701), N916WN (702), and N921WN (703). Also noticed they fly into Southwest’s Terminal A Airslide 2 a perfect fit for those former Southwest jets. Sadly, no Wi-Fi as the antennas were taken out.
Great avelo airlines review. I’ll flew Orlando last summer on southwest. Also in funny on how the plane that use to fly with southwest parked by the southwest gates, In Orlando
I remember when Air Tran pulled out of TYS in the early 2000's. They had a Water 🌊 Cannon salute! This is much happier! I hope they're doing well 😜🤠! Excellent 👌 video!
I was born and raised in New Haven in the 1970s. I specifically remember the days of Eastern Airlines 727s coming here.....along with those old Convair aircraft used by Allegheny Airlines. I also remember Pilgrim and NewAir. Historically speaking, no airlines ever survive here. With the "short porch" runway (only 5600 feet long), HVN is still a restricted airport. The residents around the airfield always complain whenever the word "expansion" comes up. I hope above all hope that Avelo survives, here. I really do.....
Nice to see new airlines and new routes in the US. Last week I saw a crowded CDG, Emirates A380 is back to GRU. New Embraer sales for European and US airlines are popping up. New routes and new airlines here in Brazil as well - we are going to have flights from São Paulo CGH to Fernando de Noronha islands (it will be the longest E-190 flight in Brazil). All that means that this crazy planet is getting back to normal. It's great to have you back Q! Thanks for sharing.
Avelo is most likely abstaining from the jet bridge just like other ULCCs do at smaller airports- to save $. Frontier does the same at KTTN and Allegiant does the same at KELM
Wow they better hope every takeoff and landing is done with great precision because, at present, the runway is only 5600 feet long which leaves no margin for conditions which might extend takeoffs or landings.
Looks like you stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Milford...no great views from this hotel but at least it is convenient for I-95 and the nearby mall, with one or two fast food places within walking distance. As for Avelo, they are selling on price and convenience, so as long as you don't expect too much then you probably won't be disappointed. HVN is such a small airport, it's a blessing and a curse. It's a short drive from anywhere in New Haven county yet it's awkward to get to, through a residential neighborhood (who make it well known they aren't too happy with their noisy neighbors.) Parking is right next to the terminal yet at $20-25 per day, it's hardly cheap. There is no shuttle from Union Station Amtrak/MetroNorth so you have to Uber or taxi* but Uber can't drop you off at the terminal due to a dispute with the airport, so you have to be dropped off nearby and walk down the driveway. This actually happened to me! The terminal is small, so navigating through is a breeze, but once airside there is little in the way of amenities. It's frankly not a very pleasant place to spend time. The Avelo experience is zero frills, so no WiFi, no drinks or snacks besides a water if you ask for it, and very limited comfort and legroom. If flights get canceled, you'll be offered a refund and then you are on your own (as recently happened to a friend of mine,) You get what you pay for, and maybe these concessions are okay for short flights, but if the price becomes too much then people are likely to head back to New York or Hartford for different airlines, especially those not living in New Haven County or around the city. * A new shuttle bus service was announced recently, connecting Tweed HVN with Union Station, for those that choose to park there and not at the airport. The idea is to reduce traffic through the residential streets around the airport. The shuttle is not yet open to rail passengers but hopefully they get this resolved soon. Even if they charge something like $5 each way, it would be totally worth it in my opinion.
They rearranged some of the seats since it was Southwest as where you were sitting row 11/12, now row 22 used to have a pair of seats in the left side, it looks like they have been removed and the seats were rearranged. Also Evolve is 31 inches pitch on the -700 is now 29 inches pitch. Ouch!
If they were to offer a larger seat (widthwise and pitch) I would consider flying with them but on a 2.5 hour flight I think they're a little small for me.
I saw Avelo Airlines take off from Tweed New Haven airport when I was watching the news I've always wanted to travel to Florida it's a good state for tourists
I so want to try this airline someday! 🤩 The Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, KY started having flights to Orlando (MCO) in this airline 2 months ago, and I’ve always wanted to fly to MCO since it’s closer to the Universal Orlando Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort. 😄
This Q re-view is brought to you by water cannon rainbows. spoiler alert... There is no Coke with ice in this review. However there is good video, good editing, and good music on this fun flight to Florida. So give it a view, like, and sub. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks for sharing!!
it seems like Avelo is trying to adopt a more european style with using smaller airports and boarding with stairs which makes a lot of sense and is something no other airline is really doing in the US, i see them being really successful if they stick with their business model
My buddy’s house is right outside the airport and I thought that the private jets were loud, these airplanes shake his whole house lol feel bad for him.
Quintin: The reason for not using mechanized Boarding Gates/Ramps is it costs extra. The bigger question is, does Mr. Levi have the leverage of self-confidence in saying NO! to the bureaucrats and politicians (with virtually zero private-sector skill-sets) at these small Regional Airports when they begin to demand Landing/Ramp fees like the Big Airports? You know what Michael O'leary has done when small Regional Airports began to demand insane amounts of cash for landing (not excluding an extra tax to passengers)? He's packed-up and left them nothing....destroyed by their own greed. After fuel, Landing/Ramp Fees is the biggest expense to any Carrier.
Very interesting! I am about 15 minutes from the airport but have not used it since 2004.... I am old enough to remember back to the 1960s and 70s when Eastern used to have DC-9 and 727 service. I miss those days. I'm glad Avelo is convenient for a lot of people but I probably will still go to Bradley for future trips to Orlando since the seats look a little cramped, plus I have all my frequent flyer points with the major airlines.
Avelo's 737-700s will be east coast while their Boeing 737-800s will be west coast and several of these Av Geeks have flown Avelo a few times already including their inaugural flight from Burbank to Santa Rosa
Neve thought someone would make a trip report about this small airline flying out of my home state from a small airport, so amazing to see!
Lol, you drove past my house on the way to the airport! We're very excited to have Avelo in town!
Terrific job of documenting this historic flight and making viewers feel almost like they were on board. Best wishes for Avelo's success going forward and hope I have the opportunity to fly the airline one of these days.
Welcome back qfs aviation miss you too
Welcome back man hopefully we get more uploads 🔥🔥🔥

Wowsie! Had no idea HVN's airport looked like that. A new terminal will be well-received!

I learned how to fly out of HVN and got my license there. Very happy for Avelo and Tweed. So far I hear that they're doing well.
