Wil Cals If he were original, you'd have an argument! He's clearly Shazam before Shazam was created, a mix of mythological deities. Remember, he only had strength, invulnerability, and speed to start with, after Namors debut, he could suddenly fly!

At one time it was impossible for he and Lois to conceive a child, now... I felt that Kingdom Come would be a great note to end his story, but that's just me.
Except Sentry is NOT a rip-off. He's gotten his powers through entirely different means and started out as a regular human. Even their powers are TOTALLY different. Roughly the only thing Sentry & Supes share in common is the skin tight suit with the flowing cape, and that's literally where the similarities stop.
The use of the name "Gladiator" is a throw back to a possible influence on the actual Superman character. Phillip Wylie (?) wrote a novel called "Gladiator" that I've heard has a direct connection to Superman who came about later.
Marvel comics Gladiator was based on Superboy and his group was based on the Legion of Super heroes. However Gladiator was a novel in 1930 and character in that book Hugo Danner had super strength, speed and limited invulnerablity and was compared to propotional power of insects. Which Action comic #1 in 1938 with Superman also compared him to proportinal powers of insects such as weight lifting and jumping a building. Hyperion is the name of a titan from Greek Mythology predates Marvel's version by more than 2000 years.
I know im in the minority but i love Sentry. He's just an interesting character for me with his addictions and mental issues. I hope they bring him back after Secret Wars but with a writer who actually knows how to use him to the fullest.
@@Lucky-qg6mu Thor isn't a Super\man rip-off, at all. Aside from the fact that they both have red capes and can fly(and in Thor's case, it's when he uses his hammer to aid him in doing so).
I like the two times Gladiators weakness was exploited though. When Junior X-Man Cannonball put the smackdown on him in an epic one on one fight (UXM #341) and more infamously when Cassandra Nova made him wet himself. (NXM #126)
sentry is even more stupidly over powered character than Superman is and it's sad to say that sentry would obliterate superman if he was having a good day
Prior to variant comics video I watched before this, I had really only heard of Sentry as Marvel's Superman. (Although i did see Gladiator in the xmen animated and in my favorite tabletop game). It's pretty cool to learn there are new hero histories I can delve into now.
Definitely Sentry. Just the way Marvel uses him as the big powerful guy to stop World War Hulk or bring down Asgard makes him like Superman. The whole Void thing is pretty unique and cool.
Gladiator is cool, but the context he lives within makes for some crazy situations. Blue Marvel is also really cool because of the context of his life.
Superman when he first came out he did not fly he can jump the tallest building in a single bound but no he did not fly Superman was not the first flying superhero that title belongs to namor was the first flying superhero in comics books
Naw I think that belongs to Captain Marvel how the current superman is model after. He even had a movie before superman and it was said to be dam good for it's time. He is the 2nd superhero in history and never has had a power boost.
Namor debuted before Captain Marvel. The Human Torch was also before Fawcett created Captain Marvel. As stated above, Namor was flying before either Supes or Shazam.
Umm No. Namor and Human Torch weren't even in the same Decade. Dude you on some high power drugs. Captian Marvel even had a movie with him flying in like 1951.
Both Namor & Human Torch debuted in 1939. So how is Captain Marvel flying around in 1951 relevant? Captain Marvel didn't exist until the following year. Namor & Torch were already flying on panel while Captain Marvel was still just a spark in the imagination of Beck & Parker. Captain Marvel is not the 2nd superhero in history. Even if we only took comic books into account, he is closer to being the 25th superhero in history. Various others came before him including; Superman, Namor, Batman, Human Torch, Flash, Hawkman, etc.
Sentry is a character who always interested me. And hes more then right when he says there similar 'On the Surface.' Some fun facts about Sentry....Before becoming 'Sentry' he was a Meth addict, who stumbled upon a lab developing a Super Soilder Serum-wannabe. This potion gave him Energy abilities, Super Strength, immortality, and supreme intelligence. He was well loved as a hero....... Untill he was convinced by a super villain named the Mastermind that he was one half of a person, and the other half is a demonic being named 'The Void' And heres the part that will interest people..... He was treated as a villain for a long time, until he was accepted as a 'hero' when he flew, Carnage in hand, into space and tore him in half. He did this with Ares too, but not in space, and a lot more gruesome.
The problem is that superman is overpowered, and anytime DC needed him to do something extra, well, they just gave him more powers. The result is that when anyone makes a super tough character, its instantly compared to superman. I could come up with a concept for a character, for example, lets say I start with Telekinesis. This character uses it on himself mainly, so it grants him high strength, speed, flight and invulnerability. Right away I'm gonna get accused of copying superman, even though that was never the intention.
Hyperion and Gladiator are deliberate wink-wink-nudge-nudge analogues of Superman, right down to the origin story. Sentry and Blue Marvel are more like Miracleman (aka Marvelman.) Marvel didn't set out in the 1960's to copy DC heroes; rather, they were turning tropes on their heads and inside out with their radical creations. The personality, power set and importance of Superman are spread out through many heroes: Captain America, Spider Man, Silver Surfer and others. The most direct comparable to Superman is Thor, who basically holds the same position with the Avengers that Superman has with the Justice League. It was significant that when Marvel was creating all these new, cape-less heroes, Thor was given a cape in his design (and it was red, just like Superman's.)
Thorion1969 I can agree with most of your opinion, but we all know that the idea of Thor was around for centuries (literally). The color scheme, I believe that it's a limitation of the day, primary colors were easier to print back then.
i couldnt agree more. i really they should do a story line that delves into rob reynolds' psyche, showing how each side effects him as well as having some awesome fight scenes between the void and different heroes. it would be sooo fun
Vince Chidiac I would argue that the idea of Sentry and the Void could have come from Superman 3 the movie in which Superman is divided into two parts of himself, one good, one evil! The only reason I liked that movie!
I think Sentry is less of an alternate Superman than Hyperion.Sentry looks different and he has a different story and origin.Hyperion resembles Superman more than Sentry.
You mention a resemblance between Gladiator and Superman but I find that Gladiator, except for the purple skin and mohawk, is a dead-ringer for Black Adam, right down to the ears.
Naming one of them Gladiator is doubly amusing because it's been rumored that Supes himself was based on a character from a novel by Phillip Wylie called.........Gladiator.
Normal sentry is more powerful then superman, but not as powerful as molecule man and blue marvel or odin, but sentry/void is not normal sentry.Sentry void is more powerful then odin and you right, sentry void version is close in power to molecule man.Current molecule man is more powerful then sentry void however.I am not sure if sentry void was as powerful molecule man but he was on the level the phoenix.living tribunal was more powerful i think then past molecule man.
+TheCell111 sentry and void are the same person bro we can assume that death seed sentry being the sentry but without the void personality has access to all his powers
Marvel tried so hard but never succed creating their own Superman. Whenever they create a powerful hero they never figured what to do with them. Maervel should stick with street level heroes.
I want a blue marvel vs icon crossover. I may be alone, but I wish they just given Adam the "captain marvel" name. especially since at the time no hero was using the name, I believe.
+Tarik McEntire I didn't forget, I just chose not to get into it. Plus, some of the people that watch these are actually only hearing of these characters for the first time (believe it or not), so no need to spoil that surprise for them if they decide to go check out some of Sentry's comics.
That's actually bullshit, it's ANAD Hyperion because Hulk and Sentry fought to a standstill -- Hyperion punched Hulk back to Bruce in two or three punches.
I like blue marvel. he is the perfect superman archetype and stands strongly as his own character. hickman's hyperion is basically superman. his avengers run was hugely inspired by the Legion of super heroes and Hyperion was a villainous dick, so Hickman created a new hyperion, where thor took him under his wing and he was basically superman.
Jeff O My friend, DC characters are all overpowered! I don't get why people like them so much, with that much power on a more realistic scale, there should be only super villain criminals. For example, the Flash shouldn't have any trouble with his enemies, any of them except Zoom! Marvel heroes aren't as powerful, which gives them more vulnerability, more stories to write, not always written well though.
People look at the cape, the power, and the helping average people and immediately assume "Rip Off Superman". Thor has more in common with Wonder Woman than Superman.
Mohammed Abid You do realize that the idea of Thor is way older than Superman? Marvel didn't create him, they created that version. You could use Thor in a comic and not get sued as long as he's not the Marvel version! If anything Superman is a Hercules or Heracles clone with Mercury's speed, sound familiar!?
Sentry also has invulnerability, super speed , Flight, capacity to bend light, telepathy (stopped Thor's hammer with his mind, superman can,t do that), no weakness, evil spirit the void that makes him go on a rampage and hulks best friend can create super Novas at his disposal, one spotted the hulk but dint wanna kill him and has helping factor like dead pool, can shoot yellow energy blast and not from his eyes. And he can also resort to people from the dead with a touch of a finger. And lastly matter manipulation ( yeah that's right he can turn superman into an apple if he wanted to).
That is cause one he is with DC comic's now and was Originally Whiz comics and superman copied half his powers. Original Superman is nothing like what most people know. He couldn't fly, no heat vision, freeze breath, and his power didn't come from the sun. All that came after Captain Marvel aks Shazam smashed him in comics sales do to all his powers.
Gladiator is my favorite marvel character because of his similarities to Superman they always have to make him weaker to exsist i like the fact his confidence determins his strength he's not a boycott like Superman
Hey you said that the sentry actually was meant to be major marvel super hero. He is forgotten because he used his power to make people to forget about him.
I dont think you explained that guys powers right if it's how committed he is . If that is what it is it means how bad he wants something or how much he believes in it
Hey Imagine What if... Superman as a Marvel hero fundamentally changes the Marvel Universe(MU) as we know it. There are several characters that wouldn’t exist or change alignment by the nature of Superman being Superman. But what if THE PRESENCE & ONE ABOVE ALL make an arangement and... 1. DC Prime Earth Superman was born in dying planet Krypton and sent into outer space by his scientist parents. But suddenly on the road his rocket enter a portal to Marvel Universe and would have arrived in KANSAS and raise by KENT'S in MARVEL VERSION 2. He would Inspired by CAPTAIN AMERICAS action and moral and then become a SUPERHEROES 3. His Role as Superboy will causing this to happen - Carol Danvers never being kidnapped by The Kree (there is no Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel) Mar-Vell still die - The Fantastic Four would have been rescued before entering the cosmic storm. (There are No F4) - Daredevil would not have had to save the old man. (There is No Daredevil) - Bruce Banner would not have had to save Rick Jones. (There is no Hulk) - The X-Men wouldn’t be hated and feared. - Tony Stark would have been found and brought to full health with Superboy performing the surgery. (Ironman still exist😁) - Any of the villains born in relation to those heroes would not exist. (Hawkeye and Luke Cage still evil) - Adam Brashear will died cause of Anti-Matter Machine (there is no BLUE MARVEL) - Robert Reynolds will died as a junkie cause scientist are quiting of searching for Super Soldier Serum (there is no Sentry) 4. Doctor Doom would be Superman’s Lex Luthor, and he’d be frustrated at every turn, much like Lex Luthor & Jonah Jameson will be SUPERMANs Media Foe🤣🤣🤣 5. The Avengers would consist of: Trinity of Marvel😎 - Superman - Moon Knight - Ms. America and then Odin Reveals his Past with his brother/sister in arm when they fight Celestial so Old Original Avengers According to Marvel 10 M B.C - Thor - Black Panther - Dr. Strange - Ghost Rider - Iron Fist - Starbrand - Marvel Girl "Jean Grey" And New Members: - Ironman - Namor - Ant-Man - Nova - Vision - Wasp - Spider-Man - Scarlet Witch - Quick Silver - Black Widow And their allies - x-men - inhuman - midnight son - guardians of galaxy😁
Thor was the OG Superman knockoff for Marvel. Stan Lee was ordered to create a Superman for Marvel and decided to do something different by tapping into Norse mythology.
Thor was created by Jack Kirby. Stan Lee was looking to up the ante & find a rival to surpass Hulk. So Jack turned to his love of Norse mythology & this developing character of "Thor" he had showcased in 1942 & again in the early 50's. Granted while Marvel may have been looking for a new hero to represent that top tier position Superman held in DC comics ... this doesn't make Thor a Superman knockoff. Their personality, power set, & background have nothing in common.
Other Marvel "Supermen" could include...Count Nefaria, Wonder Man, Captain Marvel, Captain Universe, and maybe Nova... the characters in the video are much better examples with the exception of Captain Marvel (the first one).
To me one of Marvel's Superman is Captain Marvel (i.e. Carol Danvers). To me she is Superman with boobs and a military training. She is very strong, indestructible, can fly and and shoots things from her body. She is present in many titles and has her own solo series. This may not have always been the case, but right now, I would say that she is Marvel's Superman. Or at least that is how I describe her to non Marvel versed readers.
Wouldn't it just be easier to describe her as Marvel's Supergirl, instead of Marvel's Superman with boobs? XD Especially considering Captain Marvel's name is (Carol Danvers) & Supergirl's name is (Kara Danver).
I'm a Marvel fan well over DC, but I have to admit(reluctantly) that Superman is the biggest and best super hero. with that said, this list was better and more believable than the batman list, but it still stinks
The only one I'd disagree with being a clone of Superman is Blue Marvel! He's nothing like Superman in character, backstory, or power. The only way to compare them would be that they're both insanely powerful! On another note, Superman isn't the first superhero! There's a list of superheros older than he, if you think about it Superman is Shazam! He's an amalgamation of gods and demi gods, in his original state he only had strength and speed! He gradually gained other powers because... reasons! I know he gained flight after the debut of Namor!
so any hero with a cape is automatically a Superman knockoff. Wow. Guess that means I'd better stop making superheroes because then he'd be featured in a video being told he's never going to be as good as Superman.
GamerMikko Oh I realize some are blatant knock-offs but why can't they stand on their own? The video is saying "Well Superman already exists, why have something else?"
"The Problem with Superman is that he's overpowered." "Sentry is More powerful than Superman and more compelling too." You know, somehow those two sentences don't seem to go together. But okay, I respect your opinions.

Which one is the most powerful? Cuz I'm hearing it's Blue Marvel.
Just curious.
Danny Furrison Sentry is the most powerful for the simple fact of he’s just so fucking over the top OP
Sentry is probably one of the most coolest hero in Marvel history
What about Count Nefaria when he fought the Avengers in issues 164-166? He had them all defeated then Thor showed up.
Honestly, Gladiator should have put up a better fight against the phoenix force
What about Vision? Same colour scheme, cans hoot lasers, can fly and is pure good.
*shoot
uhhhh no
Vision is basicly Martian Manhunter
What about ikaris from the celestials!!!! He can fly has laser eyes and is reasonably strong!!!! He also is virtually indestructible!!!!!!
No. He has more in common with the New Gods than Superman. Think Orion expy and you're close.
my list
1. Hyperion
2.Sentry
3.Gladiator
4. Thor
5.blue marvel
how is thor a rip off of superman?
People look at the cape, the power, and the helping average people and immediately assume "Rip Off Superman". Thor has more in common with Wonder Woman than Superman.
Even then, Thor have nothing to do with WW it all
Mohammed Abid You do realize that the idea of Thor is way older than Superman?
Marvel didn't create him, they created that version.
You could use Thor in a comic and not get sued as long as he's not the Marvel version!
If anything Superman is a Hercules or Heracles clone with Mercury's speed, sound familiar!?
Thor is a norse god you moron hes inspired by a real god from a real mytholigy
Gladiator (Kallark) is my favorite Marvel Superman.
I guess it's just matter of time for 5 santa claus es in comics
Make some more videos on other characters XD
And do some Dc knock offs
+Tyler Summerhill maybe but not superman prime
+Tyler Summerhill Until the void shows up and sentry flies off earth crying again.
"can turn superman into an apple" then why didnt he do that to the Hulk in world war hulk or in any other fight he's been?? lmao
Let’s go Hyperion & Gladiator!!!!
I like how Captain Marvel (the Shazam one) doesn't even make it on the list XD
That is cause one he is with DC comic's now and was Originally Whiz comics and superman copied half his powers. Original Superman is nothing like what most people know. He couldn't fly, no heat vision, freeze breath, and his power didn't come from the sun. All that came after Captain Marvel aks Shazam smashed him in comics sales do to all his powers.
blackdynamiteSJC Wrong, flight came from Namor !
Gladiator is my favorite marvel character because of his similarities to Superman they always have to make him weaker to exsist i like the fact his confidence determins his strength he's not a boycott like Superman
No, instead he's a murderous tool.
So many Supermen not even DC has that much Supermen and they created them.
Golden Underwear LOLOLOLOL
gladiators powers seem to be a gift and a curse
I forgot who on RUclips has this, but, Superman technically wasn't "the 1st superhero ever"
Hey you said that the sentry actually was meant to be major marvel super hero.
He is forgotten because he used his power to make people to forget about him.
I dont think you explained that guys powers right if it's how committed he is . If that is what it is it means how bad he wants something or how much he believes in it
sentry being weirdo and the fact that he cant die annoys me.... hope his hand to hand combat is good anyhow haha
Kallark is my favourite of Marvel's Supermen. Cosmic ftw.
You forgot about Omega The Unknown.
But suddenly on the road his rocket enter a portal to Marvel Universe and would have arrived in KANSAS and raise by KENT'S in MARVEL VERSION
2. He would Inspired by CAPTAIN AMERICAS action and moral and then become a SUPERHEROES
3. His Role as Superboy will causing this to happen
- Carol Danvers never being kidnapped by The Kree (there is no Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel) Mar-Vell still die
- The Fantastic Four would have been rescued before entering the cosmic storm. (There are No F4)
- Daredevil would not have had to save the old man. (There is No Daredevil)
- Bruce Banner would not have had to save Rick Jones. (There is no Hulk)
- The X-Men wouldn’t be hated and feared.
- Tony Stark would have been found and brought to full health with Superboy performing the surgery. (Ironman still exist😁)
- Any of the villains born in relation to those heroes would not exist. (Hawkeye and Luke Cage still evil)
- Adam Brashear will died cause of Anti-Matter Machine (there is no BLUE MARVEL)
- Robert Reynolds will died as a junkie cause scientist are quiting of searching for Super Soldier Serum
(there is no Sentry)
4. Doctor Doom would be Superman’s Lex Luthor, and he’d be frustrated at every turn, much like Lex Luthor & Jonah Jameson will be SUPERMANs Media Foe🤣🤣🤣
5. The Avengers would consist of:
Trinity of Marvel😎
- Superman
- Moon Knight
- Ms. America
and then Odin Reveals his Past with his brother/sister in arm when they fight Celestial so Old Original Avengers According to Marvel 10 M B.C
- Thor
- Black Panther
- Dr. Strange
- Ghost Rider
- Iron Fist
- Starbrand
- Marvel Girl "Jean Grey"
And New Members:
- Ironman
- Namor
- Ant-Man
- Nova
- Vision
- Wasp
- Spider-Man
- Scarlet Witch
- Quick Silver
- Black Widow
And their allies
- x-men
- inhuman
- midnight son
- guardians of galaxy😁
Wait...what about Sun-God?? He's a Marvel version of Superman!?
Can i make a new superhero about another version of superman??
Swap sentry an Hyperion around. And swap moral. An and blue marvel around, and it's great!
The name of my superman version from dc comics is new superhero is named as the Supreme master
can you do top 5 dc captain america
fantastic 5 , 5 best marvel supermen , the video in 5 minutes and 55 seconds , high 5 bros
DC have Shazam, the martian and Valor. The Other Super men.
Gladiator #1
Other Marvel "Supermen" could include...Count Nefaria, Wonder Man, Captain Marvel, Captain Universe, and maybe Nova... the characters in the video are much better examples with the exception of Captain Marvel (the first one).
Black Adam Yeah, I'll admit Wonder Man is a bit of a stretch.
I agree Sentry and Blue Marvel are not knocked off
superman are rip off of John Carter and Moses. Stop the hate :-)
Well, Blue Marvel is extremely similar to Milestone comic's "Icon" character.
JazGalaxy How?
I'm a Marvel fan well over DC, but I have to admit(reluctantly) that Superman is the biggest and best super hero. with that said, this list was better and more believable than the batman list, but it still stinks
Spiderman is greatest hero
does that gladiator guy need the yellow sun too? etc
daquan94 Nope.
Sentry is totally different the only reason he is first is because DC fans know sentry can beat superman
Ironically I think these guys are more interesting then Superman (probably because we don't see them a lot)
superman is not the first superhero that would be the phantom who predates superman by two years
Another awesome video! Also, FIRST!
Superman vs captain america
The only one I'd disagree with being a clone of Superman is Blue Marvel!
He's nothing like Superman in character, backstory, or power.
The only way to compare them would be that they're both insanely powerful!
On another note, Superman isn't the first superhero!
There's a list of superheros older than he, if you think about it Superman is Shazam!
He's an amalgamation of gods and demi gods, in his original state he only had strength and speed!
He gradually gained other powers because... reasons!
I know he gained flight after the debut of Namor!
Phantom was the first Superhero rite??
Sorry, the Sentry is far more a rip of Miracleman, who is a rip of Captain Marvel, who is a rip of Superman.
what about vision?
so any hero with a cape is automatically a Superman knockoff. Wow. Guess that means I'd better stop making superheroes because then he'd be featured in a video being told he's never going to be as good as Superman.
+Cult Of Craxxus Correct.
+Chris Haley it's idiotic
GamerMikko Oh I realize some are blatant knock-offs but why can't they stand on their own? The video is saying "Well Superman already exists, why have something else?"
"The Problem with Superman is that he's overpowered." "Sentry is More powerful than Superman and more compelling too." You know, somehow those two sentences don't seem to go together. But okay, I respect your opinions.
