With a baby on the way and since you’re replacing outlets anyway, I would advise you put in baby safe outlets (the kind that self cover) when you do it. They are a bit more expensive but totally worth it so you don’t have to deal with outlet covers. They’re a game changer!

TIP, (artist here) it's easiest on your eyes to paint a white (like the trim) box around each color choice not just hold up a board. The eye sees color next to other colors in a very confusing way. To truly see them, a white box separates better. Also, you could then paint one wall with your favorite color before committing to the whole house.

Advice: wherever your couch or recliners will be, you will want usb charging ports. You're probably also going to need those in the bedrooms and kitchen and elsewhere. This reduces a need for regular outlets and power strips that would be used up with chargers & adapters. Also think about indoor plant lights, laptops, tablets, etc., those will need outlets too.
Bring some wet wipes to the new house -- very handy for a quick cleanup.

Hey Becky, while the house is empty and it's easier to get at everything, I would map out your electrical panel. I have found just because someone labels a breaker as kitchen outlets, it doesn't necessarily mean that the kitchen outlets are all on that breaker. It will come in handy if you ever have to replace something down the road. All we did was get a pad of paper and writing down what was on it. Which meant plugging a nightlight into every single outlet. We then typed it up, laminated it and ziptied it to the breaker box. We did this after having to replace a kitchen light fixture that just died and finding out that there were three different breakers for the 4 outlets not including the fridge in the kitchen. It's really not fun to replace a light fixture as it's getting dark and you have the power shut off to the whole house. And moving furniture to get at outlets is really not fun. You were talking about moving light switches and this made me think of this

Totally agree! I have kitchen and 1/2 of a bedroom on one breaker. The rest of the house is also broken up. There isn't a single room that all outlets are on the same breaker. Builder was all over the place.

Do consider going through the linen closet, the sports gear and clothing, definitely the coat closet, and places where things you are hot actively using, packing them into boxes or totes, then carrying them with you in your vehicle. Every box counts as one less you need to pack then cart in the big move. Books are another item 6ou can often take ahead of time. To reduce your lifting needs, use smaller and more boxes. As needed, have Josh unload the vehicle and cart containers and boxes to where they need to go. - Unless the basement is being used for a workshop, stage your boxes and totes by the room they are destined for.

Agree. If you're going back and forth anyway, that's a sensible thing to do. We've moved 14 times. Sometimes we could do that and sometimes we couldn't (military & now retired) & I did a lot of packing. If I knew a move was coming, I would start packing months ahead of time. Just that was helpful. When we were going from one house to another close by, we would move things each time we went to the next place. The place we are in now we had over 30 days to move things ahead of the big move. We took those boxes and put them in the extra room when it was time to move the big stuff.

The base structure of the strawberries and fruit trees give you a massive head start!! So excited for you! As you get older, and busy with children…saving STEPS and lumping things together to multitask is going to help your days be less about getting from one space to another…. Saw some tips about ‘lazy gardening’ one was to have some duplicate tools in the spaces where you need them…so you do not have to lug from space to space.

Picking grays is so hard! I tend to go to the cool grays with a green or blue under tone, but honestly I noticed the biggest difference when we changed our light bulbs. I can not stand the yellow lights or the blue lights.. so, to get the truest color of the walls we went with daylight LED bulbs and I love it.

Go with your first choice. And then do not stress over it. When you're pregnant, things you normally love might suddenly seem less appealing and vice a versa, but then flip flop back to loving it right after you've committed to the new color (or flavor, style etc) With my 2nd pregnancy we had a brand new house built. And they let you pick all the colors and the trims and flooring. I think I must've called the contractor twice a week to change it back to the previous choice. My mother finally convinced me that the baby was just voicing his opinion and to take my first choice. I still drove everyone crazy but my mother was right. And that trim Josh did in your new house is absolutely gorgeous. When you were describing it I pictured something entirely different and just wow, he really does some beautiful work. When I moved into my house EVERY SINGLE room was painted "Amazing Gray." The crazy thing is that it doesn't seem that way AT ALL. The gray seems so balanced between warm and cool that it really takes on either warm/cool tone depending on the light in the room. It matches everything! And it's just dark enough to be dramatic against white woodwork but not so dark that it makes even a tiny bathroom seem small. Definitely recommend that color.

Shiitake is always warm with a white trim but I would consider a brighter shade in that hallway to reduce darkness. You might find other rooms with less natural light having the same issue.
Try looking to the left of the one you choose on the sample board.
Blending tones for balance makes it appear one colour was used throughout.
The result can be beautiful and make a dark space appear wider.
Glad you got some great ideas from landscaper. Planning stages and living each one helps you develop what works.
