I love this video I'm building a 78 Chevy Van and Im keeping the patina pant. Thanks for sharing this info. I just subscribed to your channel. keep up the great work
Dude that looks awesome, thanks for showing us how to do it and also the tip with the Elmer's Glue to make Crack Paint, good tip.. Very cool video Daddy-O...
Looking forward to the time you get to drive her. (: You probably know already, but the uninitiated should know that in some circumstances boiled linseed oil can combust, so be careful where you store the rags afterwards.
very helpful video. i live in france and have just bought a 40 year old citroen dyane. original paint with lots of dents an scrapes. no body rot. i am seriously considering trying your method. if i do i will try to send you some pics.
I love your video and car! I also used linseed on the dash of my Hudson and the painted faux wood came back from underneath the rust. It was like magic! I saw a video where they mixed with mineral spirits like you said but I can’t imagine how that would work as it would break down the oil, or am I wrong? The only downside of linseed oil is that it ‘sweats’ so the roof will be the first that will be linseed oil free and my front window gets hazy in the process.
I have a 1968 F100 that has some real nice Patina. Should the surface rust be lightly sanded or mechanically treated in any way before you put on the boiled linseed oil? Also, what are your thoughts on Linseed oil vs. Flood Penetrol or other products?
I would be very careful, I light sand with 400 to knock off and flakes of paint and rust. Warning - sanding old paint might change the color of the car slightly. Or just try simple green and a green scrub sponge and lightly wash it. Stick with boiled linseed oil
Sadly DMV won’t allow you to keep old plates, The reason they gave was that reflection has to be at an optimum state, mine were dull. Love the project!
From LA, I always thought “patina” was Chicano slang for a project low rider. For instance “aye homie that’s a nice patina(P•AH•TEA•NUH) you got there”
Can you tell me what kind of garage structure that is. i love it. was looking at land in connecticut and would love to have something similiar, my 67 fairlane's the same blue
Great video! What if you have some small pinhole areas? I have heard some people say to just spot touch the rust with brush on Rust converter (it will dry black on the rust) and then you can continue to do the boiled linseed oil "clear coating" as-is. What are your thoughts on that when you have some pinholes coming through and do you recommend treating the back of fenders etc with por-15 or liner-x, etc? Just looking to keep the O.G. paint on my bucket as long as possible. I think the patina look is great!
Having rust, scratch, hole or patina on your car, here in EU, is strictly forbidden. No excuses. The car inspection will not let you register the vehicle.
Dino B you live in another EU then. Are you sure you’re not talking about your country whichever that may be? Here in the Netherlands and in Scandinavia it’s no problem.
@@RustOnWheels Maybe then in your country is different. But they consider the rust as a big threat, and you must fix it, or you can't pass. It must be perfect. Before we became a full member of EU, you could pass easily with having some rust, dent, or a scratch.
I would be scared as shit driving a concours classic. I wanna get in, play around and park it anywhere without being scared of scratches and dents that you know it’s gonna get in public parkings.
Back in the day, people said my car was rusty shitbox. Now they say it has a “beautiful patina.” Winning!!! 👍

Yeah don't throw a bunch of rags in a cardboard box
Nice job on the video, my question was how long it lasts and you answered it, good job dealing with the trolls😁
Thanks for watching Ron
Thinking about building a rat rod and this is a great idea. Thanks

Still working on it. Been busy developing 50 acres of land up North.

Kind of dumb, not really a lot of guys running from the cops in classic cars ha

I like this guy.
So did my ex wife...

Can you/should you hand wash patina? Before you apply the oil? Please let me know, can’t find any answers regarding that
I have two questions. One is about cleaning in-between coats and the other is how shiney a but will get after sitting on the hood?
The shine wears off after 2-3 days and turns a Matte finish.
What’s up man do you still have the cougar???

St4ck4tt4ck just be careful not to damage the patina you are trying to preserve
Car Groves yes sir. And thanks for replying. Would just be using the rust prevent on the surround of the holes. Dont have your welding skills, bro...
👍
Where are you from originally?
Will this preserve the intentional patina on a zippo lighter?
Should work no problem.
Hi from the uk. Do you think this will this work in our climate which is prob a lot moe damp.?

@@CarGroves Sweet thanks have ordered some.

@@akoznasovajusername structural rust damage to the frame / chassis must be addressed. That’s it. It’s only for safety. Aesthetics isn’t important.
My personal opinion is I'm not going to knock anyone for liking patina each to there own not something I'm in to but still a cool process
Yeah, but if everyone had a perfect paint 100 point restoration it would be really boring.
