I enjoyed your first video. I guess it wasn't enough for others
You've got the cutest assistant on the planet. More to the point, I'll have to sand my paint first. Thanks.
Used your way twice now on two different cars. Looks fantastic. Thank you very much.
GREAT VIDEO
been looking for different ways that don't cost a small fortune, Thank you!
I have a old hotrod magazine (late 60s) that gives the instructions on doing this to your car. It says use a 50/50 mix of the mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil so that’s what I’ve always done with my ‘29 Model A with great results! Either ways great video!!! Keep doing what your doing!
that truck is bad ass
Awesome thanks. Just found a late 30s pick up here in Australia. Mint patina. It's going to get this mixture applied.
Cheers
Great job. Going to do it again. Show season starts
Love all your vids , looking forward to next one . Respect from the UK , hope you and your family stay safe in these strange times 👍👍👍👍👍
It's a labor of love. Awesome truck this body style is the coolest pickup to build as hotrods. My dad had a 1963 Chevy pickup with a 327 and a 4 speed that he and I would work on when I was a kid. We also painted it in the garage. Sure brings back memories.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Carmelo Jackson Instablaster =)
@Dangelo Amari I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Dangelo Amari it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Carmelo Jackson Happy to help :)
Nice video. You have some great videos. I watch them all but don't comment on them all. SORRY. But My ride will have Flat Black on It. If I ever get done. I am hoping to have my next project pointless like yours. The guy that asked, "can you paint over it". Why would you ever want to paint over it? It took years to get it that way, so if you are even thinking about someday I want to paint it, don't even start to build your ride. Thanks for sharing. If you don't like the heat, move here to Ontario, Canada.👍👍🍁
Just found your channel and subscribed. I will have to try this on my cousins 55.
Great helpful video!💪🏼👊🏼👍🏻🙏🏼
Thank you for the video... I have a k5 blazer i want to do this too.
Well done folks- thanks!
Same thing as a wooden trailer lin seed oil and kerosene i think i was handed as a kid to paint the wooden floor of a trailer every so often

Love it easy and no fuss
Hey big man truck is brilliant but no good in Scotland it would wash off in the first week of summer lol we tend to use wax like for furniture its really good ..great vid as normal 👍👍
Thanks mate, very helpful.
Cool. Thanks.
This is a fantastic video. Thank you! I have two questions: (1) You mention that the main reason for not clear coating is that when redoing the clear coat when it starts failing all of the old coat would need to be removed first and then a new one applied which would likely mess with the patina. But in addition, doesn't any clear coat change the rust / patina in the first place typically darkening it? Are you aware of a clear coat that would preserve the existing patina and not make it darker? (2) Would you know whether this boiled linseed oil process also works on cast iron used for stoves that have developed a patina? Thanks again so much!
Love the truck! How long does this last? Can you use it on flat paint, any color? One more if you was it down do you have to redo it right away
Awesome thanks buddy!
Great video thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the tips
Great job and video 👍👍🇨🇱
Farmers use it for years on farm equipment. Can use it on wood and metal.
I like it. I’ll do my 54 desoto like this.
How long does it last before you have to reapply and how does it look after washing car
Been trying to decide on clear coat or natural stuff. Thanks for breaking it down. One question I have is: how would you compare the linseed oil & mineral spirits to Penetrol flood?
Paul Hernandez haven’t tried Flood. I used it to thin paint that’s it.
After I do this process, do I leave it unwashed until the next time I’m ready to apply the oil or can I wash the truck? Pretty much do i have to re apply every time I wash my truck?
Do you think this would work on Corten steel panels for a deck railing and hold up to weather?
will adding flood to primer allow painting over treated surface rust that keeps returning in the form of surface rust?
its had all the treatments but its all done outside between days/weeks/months.
realistically i want to preserve it till i can get it in my own garage/driveway, but how screwed did i screw it?
its been sanded, was never so bad but bad enough, its had acid, converters, flood rust treatment and a ZP primer with flood mixed in and coated numerous times.
It’s not flammable when it’s dried on the vehicle is it? I believe I’m gonna do this to my primered f100.
The car isn't but those rags most certainly are. I have actually seen rags soaked with this stuff catch on fire in trash cans. Take his advice seriously and wash them well and let them dry before throwing them away.
Can u do 1/4 linseed oil to 3/4 spirits? As an approximate dilution?,…or half half
what if you dont use the mineral spirits? if you drive it will dust and dirt stick to your paint afterwards? does the linseed oil turn gummy and attract debris? it looks good but i just dont want my truck to be covered in dust and dirt after i drive it for the first time. how do you clean it if it does get dirty? does the oil finish actually protect the metal and keep it from rusting further?
Just scored a 53 gmc step side, heavy patina/rust but solid still. My question is Flood vs. Boiled linseed oil method? We get 32 inches of rain here in south Texas and it’s hotter than the devils taint. What method do y’all like better? Or what’s your opinion on either. Thanks -Ryan
I'm guessing dust, and pollen just rinses off with water, and let's say it rains, will it leave that blue/green rainbow oil in the driveway,
Thanks truck looks great
74stevedc once it dry water doesn’t effect it.
What ya think of penetrol oil, is it too glossy finish. I recently bought '87 Chevrolet S-10 light blue, patina hood solid body original and frame from NC. I'm in Ohio and I'm interested in coating it either in penetrol or this mixture ya speak of. I seen other videos mentioning this mix. I like how in the video 9mo prior when ya coated it. Can tone it down, or dull it more by wiping excess off. What would you use on the frame to preserve it? New Subscriber thanks for sharing ⚡👀👍
You could put this in a big sprayer and spray the frame. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
@@BrokeBastardGarage right on, thanks. ⚡👍⚡
Thanks
Will try this on my motorcycle frame. I want it to look rusty. Thanks!
How did it go?
What do you use in the undercarriage to protect from further rusting? Some things I have found are oil/wax preservatives. What are your thoughts?
Will the linseed oil damage the window rubber seals?
Will it work over old paint
I just got some rusty tin for my bathroom walls. Should I preserve it in this same way? Thank you
Yes but will give it a shine unless you buff it with dry cloth
SMASH THAT THUMBS UP👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.. 💪😎✌
What state are u in? I'm glad u said it was 110 degrees outside because I was gonna ask how u thought it would do in CA weather. Great video!

@@BrokeBastardGarage went out and bought the stuff today...excited to try it on my 48 Chevy truck! (Couldn't find "odorless" though)
Loved the results, BUT YOU CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH HOW EASILY THE USED RAGS WILL CATCH FIRE! I did half the truck with the intention of going out a few hrs later to do the other half. I WRONGLY assumed that leaving the rag (old t-shirt) out for a while would be ok. I left the rag in my laundry room on top of my dryer with the door open (so there was ventilation). THANK GOD I went back out sooner rather than later because I returned to the laundry room to find smoke emitting from the rag. It ate through the paint of my dryer and when opened up the rag it literally looked as if had been held over a fire pit! Scary!!! So again...loving the results so far, but people PLEASE be careful of how you dispose of the rags when through!
Is there a chance that the jar can catch fire if it's sitting out un the sun while I'm coating the truck?
arlene Garcia I have had the mix on shelf in a jar for over a year no problem
So us how you shake it big daddy😁😎 great video
Do you go over chrome/stainless trim and door handles or work around them
Thanks for the video! Do you know if this would work for a motorcycle fuel tank, a environment were gas could come in contact with it often? Thanks!
C.J. Gentile viewers have sent me pics of motorcycles done
Try a 9 dollar Home depot pump up sprayer to apply and buff with rag.
Those adjustable spray bottles sure are tricky
I’m late to the party, and wondering if you removed the old paint. If so, how long did it take for the patina to get good? Thanks!
I did have to remove seven layers of paint. There’s videos on me doing it on the channel. But the patina looks pretty good right away. But it seems to get better with every year to come.
So cool! I’m thinking of doing it to my 83 F250. Seems like this mix is super versatile! Probably going to spray it up into the undercarriage of the truck to arrest the decay until I can get to it properly! Thanks:)
This won't hurt any old paint on a vehicle will it? Also do you have to apply it again if you wash the vehicle before it wears down?
Doesn’t hurt the paint. you can wash it if you needed no problem. You will need to reapply only ever six months or so.
Do you do any protection to the insides and bottom of the car?
Can you put this over old faded paint without stripping the paint?
Can lacquer thinner be used instead of the mineral spirits oil?
Can I try this over old faded gray primer?
where'd you get ur rims
If still have some paint, will it eat through it??
I can’t find odorless mineral spirits in California. What other solvent can I mix with boiled linseed oil? TIA
Guys in the UK use white spriits
My 50 F-1 has its original paint. Faded, chipped and cracked. Have you used it on that type of surface? Results?
Gary Davis I haven’t personally but some viewers have said they have used it on old paint.
Hey I’m building a rat rod from a 1947 international kb6 cab and it’s got some very rough surface rust. What would you use to smooth it out without leaving a bunch of scratch marks?
I’d try scotch bright pad
How's this work on 15-year-old factory paint that isn't in bad shape? Imma assume it adds a healthy glow and won't hurt anything.
JP Harr that’s what viewers have told me
I have a 69 ford all original paint and its orange i want to build a patina truck out of it i just bought some Detroit 20 inch white wheels for it what is the beat way I can make it look more patina without having to sand the paint down or repaint the teuck and sand it down to make it look good i wanna try to make the original paint look older if possible because the paint is still shiny and pretty looking
there are some different techniques. Light wet sanding or scrubbing with comet.
Can you wash your truck weeks down the line after the oil is applied and will it still have the shine .thanks
I'd like to know, too.
👍😎👍
quick question do we need to sand or anything before ?
I don’t. I just wash with soap and water. Let dry. Then coat.
I can't seem to find odorless mineral spirits anywhere. Is there a substitute?
Some people say white spirits
What about Rusty sheet tin to use inside. Does this product help seal it
Yes it will
apparently it has been asked if one wants to paint the truck later, can you. I don't see that question or the answer. I am going to do this strategy and if I do, can I paint truck later if I desire?
Watch the video mate, he said, yes you can paint over it, but he’d recommend you wait a year or so.
How to clean to Mantian the gloss? I put past week and today y want to clean with water and the car is messed up... like dust yellow
I have a 69 c10 long bed olive green with patina on the hood A little on the door and fenders & bed but still has paint. Question is can I do that to mine with the paint still on there or is that only for bare metal??
Pete Man yes works great with the paint
Just did it on my C10 it looks good I gummed it up on some parts got in a little hurry my fault.. now the nats are all over it😅!!! Should I thin it out more if it gets to gummy?
@@peteman400 yah your mix is too thick if its gummy
Cool. Thanks for the quick response you guys rock!!! It’s just gummy on some parts not whole truck..May just rewash them parts and reapply and thin it out a little more. Thanks again!!!
Can i apply this on bare metal ?
Do I need to sand all the rust down first ?
You can if its you want. Or try just rubbing it with scotch brite.
@@BrokeBastardGarage Thank you, I have a 1967 stepside long wheelbase
Wath store can y get this
Nice my guy what size rim
Randy Jackson 22” gm transports
thanks my guy just got me a 1967 Chevy short bed get well big homie
Do you any washes while you have it oil up
Xolo Miquiztli after about 24 hrs it dry then its like paint. Wash all you want
@@BrokeBastardGarage thank you i have 66 rambler and I'm thinking on doing that to it since i have no date on when it will see the end of a spray gun lol
I don't get it. Oil attracts dust. Wax repels dust. So why use oil instead of something like Johnson wax?
This dries to a hard coating in about 24hrs
Have you uesd something called Flood penetration I did came out great.. But like. Hear what you think
Gene Wallace I haven’t. I will Have to test it out. On sample
I have used it as well works great.
Does it hade to be odorless mineral sprits
Vegasofficial1 don’t know that’s what I have always used
Anyone know if it effects chrome ?
How can u removed it
alex castro it drys and slowly fates over tine
Lo
just repaint rechrome, be happier
