I mentioned that in a Shea Stadium group on Facebook and many had agreed. Juan Samuel not only sucked but he played out of position. My other was Mitchell for McReynolds after the 86 season. Mitchell was wrongfully grouped with Gooden n Strawberry. McReynolds was a good player but he wasn't fit for New York.
And then on top of that in 1990 next year they trade Samuel to Dodgers for Mike Marshall who was gone midseason 1990 and Alejandro Peña who was gone by 1991. So they literally got nothing for Dykstra
Gary Edmund Carter (April 8,1954-February 16,2012) was ONE GREAT MAN!⚾
McReynolds averaged .272 batting average 24 HR 87 RBI from '87-'91.
Today that’s a 30M contract lol. #lindorfleecedthemets
Kevin Mitchell had .275 35 HR 103 from 87 - 91.
Kevin Mitchell won the NL MVP in 89.
I prefer Kevin Mitchell 1000 times than Kevin McReynolds.
@14ls98 me too. Mitchell was clutch. Stupid trade because the front office thought he was a bad influence on Stawberry and Gooden which was untrue.
@jaredgoodyear6542 McReynolds style of play was so horrible acting very lazy.
There's about 8 plays from 1989 in this video.
LOL.. I was gonna say the same
HoJo had five consecutive "20-20" campaigns.('87-'91)⚾
One of the worst trades in franchise history: Lenny Dykstra for Juan Samuel

@kevinburke6055 the Mets knew how to tear it down after building it up. They should never trade their own home grown talent like that.
Hate Samuel to this day
the year it all fell apart
Gary Carter's presence served invaluable but Bob Ojeda's acquisition put us over the top.⚾
Dark season. No Wally to start and then Lenny, Roger, Mookie and Aggy gone. Keith and Kid on way out.
Yep. Elster, Hojo, Myers, and Fernandez were the only ones who were producing.
Keith Hernandez was the defensive G.O.A.T.⚾ Hernandez deserves Cooperstown induction,in my estimation.⚾
Another second place finish
This was the year they really fell apart (and yes I know game 4 of the 1988 NLCS is where it all went downhill)
Gary. Cohen"s First. season
And Steve Zabriskie's last on TV.
Keith Hernandez 11 time golden glove first baseman and a true genuine leader.
