Started his big league career as a reliever, became a closer, moved to a 7th-inning man, then became a starter and ended his career in that role.

And to this day people still think the GM acquiring ancient, washed players who obviously perform poorly under bloated contracts is somehow the manager's fault

Gary was my favorite player growing up. When I was 10, I wrote him a letter and he wrote me back. It’s an indescribable feeling for a kid when your hero does something like that. Several years later I saw him inducted into Cooperstown. He passed away not too long after that. Rest in peace Gary Carter. You left the world a better place.

Man, NY was never kind to Jeremy. He started in NY, was traded his second year, had great numbers in Milwaukee, came back to NY, I was exited.. couldn’t even hit 20 HR, traded away again, then his stats went up again. Could be a combination of many things not going wright. This game can be hard to figure out. To think Mo Vaughn was also in NY on 02’ and’03 with nearly same result and never played afterwards.

1984 through 1990 were the halcyon days for Mets fans. Never to return. They had some really REALLY good teams including this 87 club. In 84 they lost a close race to the Cubs. In 85 an even closer race to the Cards. In 87 again a really close lose to the Cards. They win 100 games 88 and are probably in the World Series if not for Johnson’s decision to not have Myers start the 9th in Game 4. They lost a close division race to the Cubs in 89 and a close one to the Pirates in 90.

I still believe the Pendleton game 9th inning homer off Roger was among the worst losses in Mets history...To this day! If they win that game, the likely SWEEP the Cards without Jack Clark and reclaim 1st. As for game 4 NLCS in '88, true about Myers but when DOC walked Shelby to make Scioscia the tying run, he should have pulled doc. The '24 Mets- Dodgers NLCS brought make many memories of the '88 NLCS. Scioscia didn't hit many home runs but he did have regular season HR's against DOC. Did Davey not know this or they didn't have the stats? I liked Davey at the time, but as decades have gone by I think anyone could have won with that '86 team

Never work with "Steinbrenner" ? I guess Darryl had to eat those words.. Steinbrenner treated Darryl like family. Brought two championships, 1996 and 1998. Was Darryl in the line up in 1999? But all in all Darryl is a great man!
