Love the recommendations! The little Elgato sticks are great because, effectively, you can add as many cameras as you have USB-3 ports (and cameras).
Assuming they work. I just bought two to try a two-cam setup, with audio coming through the Rodecaster Duo into OBS. Fingers crossed...
Hello. Can you recommend a microphone for live broadcast and dubbing? A room that opts for broadcast recording in a normal home room will not be used. If possible, you can also give an audio interface suggestion. My total budget for the audio interface and microphone is $1,000.
landed on this video ( good one by the way ) because i am trying to get the rodecaster going but i have to disagree as a great option for streamers - i bought it mostly because it can connect to 2 machines directly without having to move the soundboard back and forth ( i play games on pc, and record music on mac ) but i am finding out that it doesn't allow you to separate all different tracks as it doesn't have enough virtual channels - i only have it for a couple days so the problem on my end could be between the chair and the desk, or it's just not that obvious how to separate the tracks ( mic, discord, game audio, music ) going into the pc even using both usb-cables
Why not go with the XLR Podmic if you are going to connect it to the streamer?
how would you compare podmic to xdm-100? I saw a lot of people recommend NT1, but I am worried about backgroudn noise...
If the Streamer X had two audio inputs it would be perfect for my need, as I want to take my audio-only podcast into the video realm. Instead, I'm going to try the Elgato knockoffs for video, with Rodecaster Duo for audio, going into OBS. Does that sound like it would work with those sticks?
Yep...can't see why it wouldnt
Does the roadster duo still have issues with live monitoring e.g. the delay that makes it useless for every one who can hear it?
Stop believing everything you read on the internet.
There is latency with ALL interfaces.
Yes the RCP is slightly higher than others...but it is FAR from unusable unless you are doing music.
But why in God's name are you making music with ANY Rodecaster?
@@DarkCornerStudios .. I bought one and returned it because of the latency, I didn't "just read it on the internet". Just because you can't hear it doesn't mean it's not there, it's bad enough that even podcasting wouldn't be possible for me.
@owlmostdead9492 that would be a faulty unit.
Under 15ms isn't ridiculous.
In fact...under 15ms is barely perceptible.
I understand that people have different sensitivities to it...but damn.
15ms was almost unattainable in home recordings only a few years back.
Hard to believe that it is THAT BAD.
@@DarkCornerStudios If it's more than ~6-7ms I can hear it and it will drive me crazy. Currently I use the Behringer XR18 which doesn't have noticeable delay to me, probably sub 5ms and that gear is almost 10 years old now.
@owlmostdead9492 completely different unit.
You are talking about a unit that has a quad core computer on the inside and on board effects.
While it may bother you...the idea that it makes it useless for everyone that can hear it is ridiculous.
Worked on broadcast for years...and 15ms is hardly anything that can disrupt...
I have the Streamer X, the audio part is perfect, the video part seems like a Beta or Alpha product. Camera is set to 25fps 4K, but streamer X sends 120fps 1080p to QuickTime. No problem with Elgato Cam Link 4K. So many problems on Mac. Thanks for your work and reviews.
Just started using it on Mac...and it's glorious
@@DarkCornerStudios thats good for you :) But on my Mac Mini m1 16Gb no 4K recording in QuickTime and fps changes. I own many Røde products, never have had so many problems. On the video side.
@@techbyfinne yeah...it can be tough.
Something so new like this will have some bugs.
Again...that early adopter experience can be rough.
I know that I had a much better experience when I got a brand new usb3.0 cable
Any degradation in a cable will limit what it can do
@@DarkCornerStudios ok, i’m using the cable from Røde, strange if that should not work
@techbyfinne it's funny...mine didn't either.
But as a reviewer...I shrug and just grab another.
It might actually be an issue on Rodes end
The only thing I'd say about the CamLink is it is fragile and can easily bend if any pressure is put on my by a tight cable. Sit/stand desk owners, beware. Good alternative is the Avermedia Streamer Cap 4K that's around the same price but sits on your desktop, not out of the back of your PC.
Great suggestions on all of these and even quite a few mics for the beginner range I had not considered!
What software are you using to record video?
I'm planning to get into creating gaming content, and this video helped a lot. It opened my eyes to a whole range and variety of items I didn't know I could have used.
Hello and thanks for another banger video. I need your help to decide tho. So i m not a musician or a streamer but i play video games and spend some time on discord with friends and want my sound to be good. I was thinking to get PodMic Dynamic usb xlr version but do you think is it a overkill for me and should i go with something cheaper maybe ? If i should which mic would u suggest and if you think it s okay to go with podmic could u recommend me a sound card for around 100 150 dollar? Or should i just go with usb connection? Sorry for that many question i just don t know anything about this stuff.
I love my ntg-5. Paired with the mix pre 3-II.
Why recommend a capture device when they don’t have a camera? Or did I miss that part?
As it is for streamers...it is assumed that SOMETHING needs to be captured...
Either game play...or camera.
The streamerx is such a great device on paper but it's so unstable even in Feb 2024 - such a pity.
Unstable??
How?
I have not had a single issue with stability....nor have I heard of stability issues.
Audio / video freezing mid-stream, not being recognised after machine sleep/wake. Unify crashing very frequently@@DarkCornerStudios
G'day mate thank you for all of your videos and your advice on live stream a few weeks ago. I am loving my livetrak l8 and sm7b with cloud lifter. Havent used for recording yet, only for streaming. Can you suggest any software to use as a noise gate or to reduce background noise from the sm7b being so clear? I can't always kick my kids out of the house while I'm streaming 😬thanks in advance from 🇦🇺!
There are some decent hardware options...but they can be pricey.
As for software...not really.
I am not too well versed in software gates as I dont ever use them.
I will ask this on Friday during the livestream though...
Thanks, man. Have an awesome week 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

Nope...lol...thought about it...but it doesn't vary enough
@@DarkCornerStudios 😥
@@unicusmedia695 maybe I will do one for 2024
@@DarkCornerStudios Great stuff. Awesome content by the way
@unicusmedia695 I appreciate that!
Except the Rode Streamer X is bug ridden and an unreliable headache unlike the Rodecaster. Off camera with a small diameter supercardioid condenser pencil mic is the way to go. Say no to shotgun mikes indoors.
I have not had those issues...but I bet I know why those issues are happening.
This thing NEEDS a usb 3.0 cable...and it has to have zero degradation in signal
Without it...the unit does not work as intended
@@DarkCornerStudios100%. Cable quality really matters with these babies.
love your review every time
Cheers and thank you!
The irony of my podmic breaking over the weekend is hilarious
Oh no...what happened?
@@DarkCornerStudiosIt snapped off from the yoke stand that was screwed onto my desktop stand
@@theoutsiderjess1869 holy crap!
That is insane considering th uild on the yolk.
Consider calling Rode on that one
@@DarkCornerStudiosDefinetly I wonder if they will let me replace it with the white version
@@theoutsiderjess1869 ohhhh...never hurts to ask.
Email their headquarters in Australia.
They have always done right by me
Video is everything!
How dare you!!
Lol
@@DarkCornerStudios The movie industry had a pretty big silent film era. I don't remember people packing into auditoriums for the no visuals audio film era.
I had never heard of the Streamer X until I found your video. Seemed like it was exactly what I was looking for. But after looking up reviews it seems the software that it requires is all but broken and the chief complaint from users.
Software doesn't control it.
It works with Rode Central and Unify...and both those work fine...but you don't need any software to use it.
You have been mislead
santa needs to bring me an allen and heath SQ-5 or maybe an API T12 tube preamp... or I'd take the warm auidio MP-2MPX tube pre... hmm santa better bring a bunch of things that I need.. I mean deserve coz I've been good this week.. uh.. dang.. thats how it works right?
That's exactly how it works!
sponsor by Rode?
Nope.
Do you think there was something better released over the past 12 months?
