I’m so glad I came across your page! Your 3 videos on these wood discs answered all my questions. Wished I knew about this beforehand. I hand painted and then put on vinyl, didn’t realize I should seal them after the paint. But now I will! Hopefully adding the seal after what I’ve already done will still look ok.
I'm so happy to hear the videos helped!
i just watched all three of these videos. THANK YOU! SO helpful. I'll look forward to checking out your other videos soon!
So happy they helped! My pleasure!
GREAT INFORMATIVE TRIO OF VIDEOS, wish I would have seen them about 2 months ago. Now I know why several of my signs failed.
Sorry to hear that! 😢
I am doing outdoor wooden signs for our cheerleaders. I have painted them. I wanted to use removable vinyl for the names that way we can use different next names year if there are new additions. I could use this sealer you are talking about but wanted to know how I would I remove them when it’s time without damage?
I use the polycrlyic and also use the minwax spar urethane water based for my outdoor signs and i have been having a issue lately with the top of the vinyl after i get done it has a cracked look to it.
Hmm, I haven't had that happen with my polycrylic but I haven't tried the other one. How old is your vinyl? Vinyl can expire after 18-24 months.
I thought polycrylic was for indoor use since it is water-based. I want to use spar urethane topcoat for my outdoor sign. Have you heard of this?
Happy Monday!
I am hoping to decorate a plain, wood birdhouse, for the outdoors, for my father by painting it and adding his college logo, etc on it. I was going to order a permanent vynal, (what you see on car windshields) kinda new to "crafting"😳 would I use this technique to do this with the polyacrylic?? Any other helpful tips?
Yes, that should work well for you in a protected area.
How well would this work in snow/precipitation and sunlight. I want to use this for our parking lot signs that we’re doing adhesive vinyl for the writing? I’m using marine grade plywood
Can you still feel the lettering?
Can you do pictures on wood as well? Thank you
Yes, you could use printable vinyl to create a picture as well :)
So the final outcome is paint, seal with polyacrylic then htv then mod podge Thats the best you found. I have already done most of the steps and now worried the two sealers will not work. Help soon please
Yes, that is correct if you are creating a sign for outdoor use :)
That sealer is for indoor use, not outside.
Also what would you do if you painted and applied a vinyl but no sealer? Do I need a sealer after or should I just add the poly on the outside of them anyways? I’m using the wood discs for baby milestone cards
Hello! Thank you for the videos! Can you put permanent adhesive vinyl on top of glitter spray paint? Then seal the vinyl with mod podge? I tried today but the vinyl did not stick to the glitter spray painted wood plank. 🙁
That may be a little tricky because the surface is not flat and all the glitter bumps may make it difficult for the vinyl to adhere properly. Maybe try a layer of Mod Podge over the glitter spray paint first to level out the surface a bit and then try the adhesive vinyl. You may also find it helpful to heat your vinyl with a hairdryer and use a tennis ball to adhere the vinyl. I would recommend trying a few ways on a small sample until you find what works the best for you, too :)
I’m just curious I’ve been reading a lot on this and I was told that poly will turn yellow after sometime
Years. Nothing lasts forever
Yes, it can yellow overtime but I have had very good luck with it lasting quite a long time before that happens :)
Does this work on mdf or whatever to Dollartree signs are made of when repainting them.
Yes, MDF can work too!
i'm so confused. I have been watching videos for a month now. I was told not to seal over the vinyl. so i painted, sealed and applied permanent vinyl to a flower box. now after about a week it is peeling off. i don't understand. should i glue it down and seal over top like you suggest?
This is the method I use but it can depend on a few factors :)
Will the Polycrylic make the acrylic paint under the permanent vinyl bleed together?
If I used matte vinyl do I need to use matte Polycrylic?
That's a personal preference. I have not experienced any bleeding issues. I would just advise waiting 24 hours so the paint can cure.
What❤ if you use stain on the wood, can you use hav and/or permanent vinyl, and then seal it?
Yes, you can stain. I would stain first, seal, then apply the permanent vinyl and potential seal again if using outdoor.
I agree, i’ve encountered vinyl not adhering to stained/finished wood
I just watched a video that they said on wood polythene makes it peel up the vinyl? Is that true? I was thinking about using this on wooden coasters?
I have not personally experienced this. But unless your vinyl is outside you don't need to seal.
@@abbikirstencollections thank you
I used Woodglut instructions for this and I already did it :)
