I hate it when talk show hosts do this. I'm watching the show so that I can see my favorite celebrities being interviewed, not see the host handing out TV's and cars to their audience? It's nice to be generous and everything, but other than to show off how "kind" and "generous" you are to your fans, there's literally no reason to include it in the show. Why not do it backstage? Why do the viewers at home need to see it?

I think it's a shame that our culture is afraid to criticize Oprah, like she's some kinda demigod. She's not; she's a human being too and that means she is just as flawed as anyone. She has managed to become associated with social justice and personal integrity, as well as success, prosperity, achievement, and even moderately progressive politics. So, in a way, saying a word against Oprah sounds like speaking against what her brand represents. Add to that a sense of her being a matriarch, and you definitely end up with an anxiety similar to the fear of upsetting your own mom, auntie or grandma... if she were a famous billionaire with tremendous influence. Anyone that big (And no, I'm not fat-shaming. Fat-shaming is inexcusable and Joan Rivers, bless her crooked soul, could have thought of a better source of shade than Oprah's shed pounds.) didn't get that big by saintly, selfless deeds and words. NuthinMuffins you are so on point. When I came into a certain season in life it was like a light came on. I realized that I would never read a book on her list and that was ok. I didn’t need her advice on how to dress, what to eat or what to believe. I realized my own opinions on things were just as important as hers. People started acting like she was the only person to follow or live by. I’m a bright person, I read what I like, I volunteer at my church and I think for myself. I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful family. My life has had tragedies and we have overcome them. I think for myself and I don’t think-no, I know I wouldn’t vote for her for anything.

I used to like Oprah but there have been a few incidents that really raised my hackles. For instance, that lying author. I don't remember his name but I do remember that she sought him out to be on her show. She used to have her book club shows and she would showcase an author and discuss their books. When she found out after the fact that a lot of the book had been fabricated she had him on again and basically tarred and feathered him. My problem with that was, she sought him out to be on her show. Maybe if her staff had done proper research they would have discovered a lot of the book was fabricated before she had him as a guest. The show where he returned to answer for it (which by the way, he didn't have to) she acted so pious and practically tried him like he was a criminal. Talk about being judgemental. Then there was another incident where she was shopping at some store and the salesperson didn't recognize her. She made such a big deal about it. Not everyone knows or cares who you are Oprah. Get over yourself. Then her speech at the Golden Globes. Comparing herself to Sidney Poitier. Ah, maybe you should let others make the comparisons. Just saying!
That store was Herrods, it was after hours and they were closed for a Christmas party. Oprah was pissed they wouldn’t open for her and her entourage that I believe included Gail King. So she shamed them. Afterwards she had someone like the President of Harrods on her show to publicly apologize to her.
I use to respect her after watching her show for awhile I saw a women lost in her power using it for her own agenda everyone who did not have her point of view in life are not welll inform and that it was her job to. i really disliked Joan Rivers. but her sentiments about Oprah mirror my biggest beef about Oprah...she looses weight, brags about it, sticks her nose in the air and looks down on other people with weight problems, gets heavily into denial when she starts putting the weight back on, and gets fat all over again. she has every opportunity to lose and keep the weight off: dietitians , special cooks, the budget for purchasing the healthiest groceries, personal trainers, a work out room and work out equipment, hiring a 24/7 companion to watch her every move and discourage poor eating habits, even surgical procedures. still, she cycles over and over and brags over and over.
Oprah may exploit people but Joan actually caused hurt with her verbal abuse to get cheap laughs.

I hate it when talk show hosts do this. I'm watching the show so that I can see my favorite celebrities being interviewed, not see the host handing out TV's and cars to their audience? It's nice to be generous and everything, but other than to show off how "kind" and "generous" you are to your fans, there's literally no reason to include it in the show. Why not do it backstage? Why do the viewers at home need to see it?

I think it's a shame that our culture is afraid to criticize Oprah, like she's some kinda demigod. She's not; she's a human being too and that means she is just as flawed as anyone. What sets her apart is how skilled she is at maintaining her personal brand, including her reputation. She has managed to become associated with social justice and personal integrity, as well as success, prosperity, achievement, and even moderately progressive politics. So, in a way, saying a word against Oprah sounds like speaking against what her brand represents. Add to that a sense of her being a matriarch, and you definitely end up with an anxiety similar to the fear of upsetting your own mom, auntie or grandma... if she were a famous billionaire with tremendous influence. Anyone that big (And no, I'm not fat-shaming. Fat-shaming is inexcusable and Joan Rivers, bless her crooked soul, could have thought of a better source of shade than Oprah's shed pounds.) didn't get that big by saintly, selfless deeds and words. While I haven't done the homework to know much about her, I'm certain there's plenty to criticize. And even if she's more good than bad, I know I can't stand little things about her persona. The whole sense of her brand, to me, is a cult of middle-aged women worshipping handsome actors, prodigy children, anyone who lost weight or otherwise triumphed against adversity, and... NuthinMuffins you are so on point. When I came into a certain season in life it was like a light came on. I realized that I would never read a book on her list and that was ok. I didn’t need her advice on how to dress, what to eat or what to believe. I realized my own opinions on things were just as important as hers. People started acting like she was the only person to follow or live by. I’m a bright person, I read what I like, I volunteer at my church and I think for myself. I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful family. My life has had tragedies and we have overcome them. I think for myself and I don’t think-no, I know I wouldn’t vote for her for anything.

I used to like Oprah but there have been a few incidents that really raised my hackles. For instance, that lying author. I don't remember his name but I do remember that she sought him out to be on her show. She used to have her book club shows and she would showcase an author and discuss their books. When she found out after the fact that a lot of the book had been fabricated she had him on again and basically tarred and feathered him. My problem with that was, she sought him out to be on her show. Maybe if her staff had done proper research they would have discovered a lot of the book was fabricated before she had him as a guest. The show where he returned to answer for it (which by the way, he didn't have to) she acted so pious and practically tried him like he was a criminal. Talk about being judgemental.
Then there was another incident where she was shopping at some store and the salesperson didn't recognize her. She made such a big deal about it. Not everyone knows or cares who you are Oprah. Get over yourself.
Then her speech at the Golden Globes. Comparing herself to Sidney Poitier. Ah, maybe you should let others make the comparisons. Just saying!
That store was Herrods, it was after hours and they were closed for a Christmas party. Oprah was pissed they wouldn’t open for her and her entourage that I believe included Gail King. So she shamed them. Afterwards she had someone like the President of Harrods on her show to publicly apologize to her.

Angelina was very smart not to be used to help Winfrey with that school. Angie is very careful to make sure all kids are fully protected. Oprahs big scandle was that as tiny as that school was those girls were sexually abused. Oprah kept saying for 9 years she was building this school with her Miracle Fund money. She took other peoples money for 9 yrs too. With her own billions why ask for money? In the end she didnt do her job, and the poor girls suffered.

Ive watched plenty of Oprah programmes. I do not find her kind, compassionate nor genuinely sympathetic to people, on the contrary she is very supercilious and quite often belittles and demeans her guests. I've noticed she treats the rich and the famous in one manner and the rest in another.
