I'm so glad you tackled this topic despite the challenges posed by obesity activism. I deeply empathize with those who struggle with their weight and strongly oppose fat-phobia. As someone who has experienced periods of carrying extra weight, I understand that weight is not always fully within a person's control. However, in the broader conversation about body positivity, there is a concerning trend of dismissing or rejecting the well-established evidence that obesity is a significant risk factor for deadly metabolic disorders. It's essential that patients with obesity are treated with compassion and understanding while also receiving appropriate education and treatment from their healthcare providers. Bravo for doing this, Dr Dray!
Can you do some more on obesity? We walk around (possibly) with our big bellies and body because we get used to it. I did. Fear does not motivate but possibly Knowing what obesity does to the body may help. I am extremely obese. I don't have heels like that but I do have Lipedema. I am trying to stick to low carb. Thank you for this video Dr. Dray! Can you make a video that really focuses on auto-inflammatory and auto-immune diseases that cause adverse skin effects? I know you have one on lupus, but I would appreciate an even deeper video on it all. Lots of Lupus patients don't have ANA in their blood work at first until MANY more blood works later, making it near impossible to get help (rheumatologists often dismiss patients just strictly on lack of ANA present even though it can be difficult to detect. And lots of patients don't know to get a biopsy done to test the butterfly rash for lupus outside the ANA bloodwork). And then there's psoriatic arthritis among many other ones that get overlooked or written off as just contact dermatitis or lack of humidity or "regular eczema", even if there's actually a deeper issue at hand. Any advice on exactly what needs to be tested (such as ANA) in blood works to detect auto-immune and auto-inflammatory disease would be greatly appreciated. And also, can you please give any advice on specific indicators between a skin condition that is auto-inflammatory/immune versus "normal" skin reactions/allergies? Thank you so much!!!

Both my parents had terrible feet. My mother's was a symptom not only of her obesity, but of her mental illness (bipolar) that led her to have a deep distrust of the medical system. My father's was a combination of diabetes but also, as we learned only recently, likely the periodontal form of EDS. I've also battled obesity and I'm now merely "overweight" (still could stand to lose about 20-30 lbs to be within a truly healthy weight range) but I have done my best to keep my feet in good shape as an adult. Feet are nice and smooth, skin on my lower legs is uniformly the same color, and if I see any of the rashes or other symptoms my parents had, I'm gonna run to the doctor ASAP!
I've always had skin issues. But I've never been over 135 and I made myself get to that level because I would get light headed if i tried to work out. Gained some muscle- haven't passed our or got light headed since. But i still got the skin issues.

Happy New Year Dr Andrea & all skincare afficianados. Any thoughts or professional opinions on taking GLP-1 for weight loss? BMI 22.6 but am having difficulty dropping last 10 lbs or so. Is "Ozempic face" really a condition if one loses the weight slow and steady, eats healthy including staying hydrated and exercises? Dropping wt too quickly by any means will definitely show up in face, whole body as well if past a certain age, imo. I started a GLP-1 RX 10 days ago but on a tiny starting dose and so far no wt loss! Any tips to maintain skin integrity while losing wt? GLP-1s are usually only licensed for BMI over 30 (or 27 if other risk factors) and although no stopping advice a BMI below 25 - I.e. normal range would mean the recommendation to review, titrate down and stop.
This is a very informative video. Thank you! One question in regard to hair loss, particularly in women. Can hair regrow if enough weight is lost and the hormones, inflammation, etc are back to normal?
I would’ve thought the guy pictured with darkened cheeks at 3:32 had melasma. I never suspected that kind of darkening from insulin could show up on the face.

hi doc, my face is very inflammed and I got a prescription for pimecrolimus but it doesn't seem to work. I'm afraid to use steroid cream because of the video you made. what should I use? 😭🙏
I have also seen slim middle age/older individuals wearing sandals with feet like this. Men and women. I always think "how does a person come back from crack heels like this?!"
Pumice stone while in the shower plus a heavy moisturizer, preferably with an exfoliant like an BHA or AHA. Glytone or AmLactin are good. I go over my heels with a pumice stone in every shower, and it works well.
Dr Dray doesn't really recommend lip oils, per se. She's talked about oils for lips where it concerns flaky/peeling skin. Instead of picking/peeling/exfoliating it off (which she doesn't recommend) she says to apply a little oil like jojoba or argan (no essential oils) to the lips and then seal in with an ointment/balm/vaseline. Over time it will help loosen up the skin so it can come off by itself.
@@Pattycake1974 Vaseline is so refined it should not have a taste/smell! Try a new (small) tub of plain Vaseline or a different brand? It really is the best for lips. Been using it every night since the start of winter and my lips are suffering a lot less and are nice and soft!
Great video. Obese patients often follow poor diets or aggressively crash diet leading to hyperglycemia and vitamin deficiencies respectively.... those issues as you know well cause skin problems too. And if you got kicked out of the house come on down.
Cancellation by whom? Honest question. I am so confused by YT rules. Some channels use "profanity" & are fine, while others aren't allowed to use dictionary definitions of many words so have to resort to nonsensical terminology like "unalive/unalived" etc. It beggars belief & boggles my mind. So, I'm curious about how or by whom Dr. D. would be cancelled.
@jessleite94 many of those who understand the impact of obesity on physical health ought to understand the importance of compassion in mental health. Please reconsider your language. People are deserving of respect regardless of their appearance or health condition.
I wish doctors had a bit more sensitivity with this issue. Sure, tough love works on some, but it makes many others avoid going for health screenings due to the shameful lecture you're going to get.
not related to the video at all, but i had to tell y’all about this. i kept seeing Vibrations of Manifestation by alex lane mentioned everywhere-in youtube comments, even random convos with friends. i caved and read it, and wow. within two weeks, i started seeing my dream life come together. it’s not about wishful thinking-it actually teaches you how to align your energy to make it happen.
I'm glad the "healthy at any size" movement isn't popular anymore. We can all agree you shouldn't judge or bully people on their appearance, but saying you can be healthy while obese is plainly a lie.
yes i agree but also wanna point out that bmi as a measurement for obesity was also a contributor to this. like some women in my family were medically considered obese because we are curvy. (like actually curvy in the true sense of the word LOL). having large breasts and hips / butt but a flat stomach basically. they were incredibly healthy but still called “obese”. it’s kinda interesting how that worked back then lol i’m glad things are changing and that bmi calculator that we all knew and used is essentially being phased out
Someone who is thicker can still be healthy. What is normal for an Asian girl isn't normal sized for a Hispanic girl. Many of our "Healthy " numbers are outdated. Your comment alone makes me wonder how many people you have probably bullied for not being "your" ideal size. If someone is thicker, and happier just leave them alone. It's not your f-ing life to live.
Well, unfortunately, we all can't agree not to bully, harass, and shame people with extra body fat. There is plenty of fat-shaming, even here in the comments. I wish people could understand that both obesity and fat-shaming are problematic, but it seems like the loudest voices believe only one or the other.
Yes. A person's weight is nobody else's business. What is weird is that I get comments that I am too thin all the time, as if it is acceptable to comment in that direction. It's nobody else's business!!
No, up close their skin does not look young at all BUT obese people do look younger on the face because of the fat and fullness we often associate with youthfulness. They look round and cute like babies/kids despite their skin looking terrible/dry/with acne. ❤
I really really struggle to listen to your videos with this microphone. It’s poor quality & has bad feedback. Please please get a new one, not use one.

@ I have that, but it has a chemical taste to it, so I’m not a fan even though I use it for other skin related things.
I’m a size 8 yet my right heel is hard and cracks and peels no matter what I do.
Anyone can have rough cracked feet. It depends on if you constantly wear shoes and dont scrub the calluses off.
I have many of those symptoms.
Thank you
the sound quality is so bad why
I agree almost every one of her videos , the sound quality is so bad now I don't know why
I get zits from eating cheap sugar.
me too
Probably in cheeks?
I need to lose weight,I’m trying low carb and it can be difficult 😢
Great video. Obese patients often follow poor diets or aggressively crash diet leading to hyperglycemia and vitamin deficiencies respectively.... those issues as you know well cause skin problems too. And if you got kicked out of the house come on down.
I am not overweight but I have dry heels. It’s from winter.
Lol this whole video is basically a roast.
Dr Dray, my foot heel crack and very dry skin on it. Any recommendations for me.🙏 5'5 feet is my height and weight 57 kgs only, 54 years old now.😊
@@bicjornadal footner - but brace yourself and be prepared to hide your feet for 2 weeks. Scary stuff but it works.
Kerasal doesn’t help
I hope you don't get cancelled for this vid. Great info thank you
She is giving accurate information so she should be fine.
Important information! The current trend to accept all body types tends to ignore these very real complications of obesity.
It's not your life to live. God, you can smell republican arrogance from a mile away.
@@Mel-be6mgshe’s literally saying that obesity can cause issues and there you are mad. I can already picture what you look like without seeing you.
Yup. As a formerly obese person (364 pounds), I agree with you!
@@Mel-be6mgBeing fat isn’t fun. Being obese is even worse. Thank goodness I wasn’t delusional and decided to changed my life.
Truth hurts.

not related to the video at all, but i had to tell y’all about this. i kept seeing Vibrations of Manifestation by alex lane mentioned everywhere-in youtube comments, even random convos with friends. i caved and read it, and wow. within two weeks, i started seeing my dream life come together. it’s not about wishful thinking-it actually teaches you how to align your energy to make it happen.
(like actually curvy in the true sense of the word LOL). having large breasts and hips / butt but a flat stomach basically. they were incredibly healthy but still called “obese”. it’s kinda interesting how that worked back then lol i’m glad things are changing and that bmi calculator that we all knew and used is essentially being phased out
@lasantuzza777 I agree with you. Having said what I said, I think a healthy weight is not a fixed number
@@Mel-be6mgwhy are you feeling personally attacked by FACTS? Let me guess…
Well, unfortunately, we all can't agree not to bully, harass, and shame people with extra body fat. There is plenty of fat-shaming, even here in the comments. I wish people could understand that both obesity and fat-shaming are problematic, but it seems like the loudest voices believe only one or the other.
Adipose tissue does not synthesize testosterone
Nobody should be discriminated against because of their weight, and neither should anyone be praised for reveling in their obesity.
Yes. A person's weight is nobody else's business. What is weird is that I get comments that I am too thin all the time, as if it is acceptable to comment in that direction. It's nobody else's business!!
Wow, hard to catch all that when you are speaking so fast.
early!
Happy Monday!
Yet often obese people have young looking skin compared to thinner people
No, up close their skin does not look young at all BUT obese people do look younger on the face because of the fat and fullness we often associate with youthfulness. They look round and cute like babies/kids despite their skin looking terrible/dry/with acne. ❤
More fat= more "filling" in the skin.
But the second you'll lose the weight you'll be looking like a mummy.
Oof. Don't get fat, ya'll.
This is all so gross! Can yo do one about malnutrition?
Oh dang. Many people gonna feel attacked with that title 😂. But hey, somebody got to tell the truth in all this craziness
Not really.
Followers come to this site for helpful info.
@@bernadinedarienzzo4086 yes really. 90% of obese people don’t like to admit that they are actually obese.
I really really struggle to listen to your videos with this microphone. It’s poor quality & has bad feedback. Please please get a new one, not use one.
Following these comments because people get CRAZY when you call out that obesity is unhealthy.
Meanwhile, she is far from obese 🤣
“Have obesity” = opinion disregarded
i know this is a bit off-topic, but i couldn’t keep this to myself. i kept seeing people rave about Vibrations of Manifestation by alex lane in the comments of so many videos, and even some of my friends mentioned it. i decided to give it a shot, and it’s been a game-changer. i’m finally seeing things fall into place-career, relationships, even my confidence. if you’ve been stuck, this book might be exactly what you need
i know this has nothing to do with the video, but i kept seeing Vibrations of Manifestation by alex lane mentioned in the comments of so many videos and even heard friends talk about it. i was skeptical, but i finally gave it a try, and honestly, it’s been life-changing. two weeks later, i’m finally in the position i’ve been manifesting for years-better opportunities, more confidence, and everything just feels aligned. had to share this with you.
As someone who comes from an obese family I have known many obese people. That's not obesity, that's simply not showering and taking care of your feet
Thank you
