I had the chance to do the same thing back in 1991. Even back then no motor boats. The manatees I saw had scars from props as well. Super cool experience for sure.
The Manatees truly were a magical experience. Their interest in interacting with us is the kind of thing we dreamed of. As long as it isn’t a bear haha

We have similar mammals in Australia called Dugongs. The main difference between them seems to be the tail.
