Lol, no worries at all! Thank you for your offer of assistance, it's nice to be able to ask someone who really knows what they're doing. Looking forward to the new stuff, and thanks for your reply.
This idea might be a bit of a stretch but have you thought about doing fillings? As in pouring liquid aluminum into a skull, letting it harden, and then breaking the skull off to see the shape inside. I don’t know if it would work sense I’m not sure how hot skulls can stand but assuming it works, you could probably get some interesting shapes and maybe build new ideas off it. I would also get Twitter. Hope this helps!
Thanks! That is a pretty cool idea! I will have to think about and put my own twist on it :) I think for now RUclips, Instagram, Facebook, and Vero are about the only things I can keep up with right now lol
U.S. Skull Hunter yeah I imagine haha. Making your own channel like this is hard work. Good luck with developing things in the future. I’m interested to see how this channel will grow a few years from now.
Dear, I am power wood carver (novice) and learn a lot from you. Thank you for your efforts. I don't know if it is too late to ask, but, you brushed CA glue at the end. As far as I know it ruins the brush. The brush you use is a big one, which I believe you would not want to scrap. How do you protect the brush?
Hey! Thanks for watching Olcay, glad I can help. It does ruin the brush. That particular one I have gotten a lot of use from so I didnt mind using it for the project :)
Great video. Very informative. I am planning on inlaying cut gemstones that I have mined, cut and polished into an elk bone knife handle. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, the process you used for the copper powder; can it be used for flour gold?
I concur with Mike Hubbard, have you considered mixing the powder with a clear epoxy? and then scraping it into the void? could save yourself a whole bunch of powder and sanding too......
Well yes, problem with that is it's actually a lot harder to get the paste into the design and you end up wit lots of voids that you then have to repair and that takes up time. So yes you can, but you are not necessarily saving time in the end.
What tool/mount is that you are using to hold the skull? Can you tell us more about it/link it/maybe show us a video of how that works/holds the skull? Very awesome!
Where do you get clean, intact deer skulls? Are they usually provided by different hunters, a specific company, or do you clean them yourself? I want to get into skull/bone carving but deer skulls seem quite expensive for a student with little income.
Hey man! Yeah so most of the ones you see here are customer skulls that they provide to me (and agree to let me use for videos). I have had quite a few people simply give me deer skulls because they know that I like to carve them. But, take a look at this first, and then see if that helps usskullhunter.com/find-animal-skulls-locally-skull-carving-free/ if after trying these ideas nothing works let me know and we can probably brain storm some more ideas that will work :)
So I think I've watched every video you've made now and I can't wait to try my hand at this. This year my daughter shot her first doe and I want to try and carve something similar to this video with also inlaying her initial similar to another video of yours. My question is patterns. It seems every video you start with the perfectly sized and laid out patterns that you transfer. Any tips you can give a rookie on making these patterns? I have about a dozen skulls now to play with and practice to try and make her perfect. Thanks again for the great videos and turning me on to this great New way to display our trophies
Hey man! That's great! Sounds like you like you got your work cut out for you haha. Well, I guess after doing it a few times you get better at it but honestly the way I get it to fit right is just trial and error. Meaning, I will print the design out and see how much I am off, then try and print it off in a different setting (Like when you print you can shoose different layouts and sizes), and then if that is still not working I will open it up in Paint and resize till I get it right. That means I might print off a few different pages till the disgn fits right. Hope that somehow helps haha
Hunter, first time seeing this, but wow! Great stuff. Very clear and concise. My question: Is it buff-able? Before you put on the final protective coat, can you put this under a soft cotton wheel with some rouge and get the copper to shine a bit more?
Hey Will! Glad you "stopped by" :) The answer is yes. You can certainly use different techniques for buffing and get a similar result. Further buffing like you are describing would definitely make it shine up more. If you give it a try let me know how it goes! ~ Hunter
I’m from England and I like doing skulls and all that. One question, if some one sent a skull to you in the post or mail and if they payed you would you carve it and send it back? or is it some thing that you do not want to do
Hey Sam! Yes, that is usually the case actually. Just because of the internet people who find me are not always local. Shipping is a pain and can be expensive but it's just part of what has to happen :)
I'm confused. In this video you say you engrave the image 2/16" - 3/16" deep. I can't believe you really meant this. Can you clarify this?? Thanks and really love your workmanship!!

Google "copper powder for inlay" and you should get options
Awesome! This is beautiful. Think this would work on horn?
I have not tried but yes, I believe it would!
Did you end up using the CA accelerator very much ? I was wondering if you could make it without using it.
Well you know I don't actually use it much. Reason being it tends to "burn" the glue and bubble up. So yeah definitely you don't need it.
hello what type of ca glue do you use that can be brushed on?
As always, enjoyed the video. Did you free hand that or do your print/transfer method? Love the design.
SO with this one I did the print transfer method. That doesn't always work with larger designs but it worked out pretty well for this one.
