I remember listening to the crowd for this one, he started off and it was standard “You can’t wrestle!” Stuff, and then he starts breaking out more technical moves. So the crowd switches to “Same old shit!” So he breaks out the top rope moves and weapons and after a while of just regular cheering, they come back with simply “You still suck!”
One of the few Cena matches that wasnt completely boring... when he drops the "same ol back and forth, hit the finisher" bullshit and just let's go hes pretty damn good... too bad they rarely let him do it.

A LOT of guys would have just tried to stick to their normal style and try to win over the crowd, likely to the detriment of the match. Cena embraced the environment though, right down to taking the crowd sign and punching RVD in the face through it. He played the heel role perfectly making that crowd pop off like nobodies business when Paul Heyman of all people runs down to the ring and counts the 1, 2, 3.

No way they could stay TV-14 after that. Anyway, this match was near the end of the RA Era. You want proof? Honestly I think the very reason I hated Edge as a kid is the reason he's one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. He was a legendary heel. He was fantastic at making you absolutely hate him. I have nothing but respect for him today, both his ability in the ring and his ability to play the heel. He is truly a legend, and one of my favorite wrestlers ever.
I remember that legendary WWE summer of 2006. During the summer outside riding our bikes and up to mischief and then it hit Monday night raw hour, and we quickly went inside to watch Raw. DX shenanigans, ECW uprising, and it goes on. That summer of 2006 was one of the best year of my childhood with my bros and friend.

The main event of this PPV shows that Cena was more than capable of playing the heel. The summer of '06 was the perfect time for it. In fact, he wanted to turn heel during the Edge feud later in the summer, sometime before Unforgiven. You can see the disappointment on his face at the end of the TLC match. A comment on Reddit from a few years ago summed it up perfectly (paraphrasing here): we've seen Cena's happy face, dull surprise face, etc. But after that match, that was nothing but a "Damnit Vince, not like this" face.
One of the greatest matches I've seen live. Few things will compare to the atmosphere in that building that night. And ive been there for CM Punks ROH send off to WWE when he won the title... Triple H's return from knee surgery in early 2000s at MSG.... that legendary ballroom had something special in the air.

RVD is my favorite wrestler of all time, no one will ever be like him; him winning against the man of the company John Cena during his prime.He sadly got arrested for pot and got his 2 titles taken away but this was essentially another wrestlemania 20/30 moment!
I still go back and watch this event sometimes. Gives me chills every time I see cena’s entrance. Can’t imagine being there live. Amazing crowd.

The main event of this PPV shows that Cena was more than capable of playing the heel. The summer of '06 was the perfect time for it.
In fact, he wanted to turn heel during the Edge feud later in the summer, sometime before Unforgiven. You can see the disappointment on his face at the end of the TLC match.
A comment on Reddit from a few years ago summed it up perfectly (paraphrasing here): we've seen Cena's happy face, dull surprise face, etc. But after that match, that was nothing but a "Damnit Vince, not like this" face.
I believe his rapper gimmick was originally a heel...wordlife basic thuganomics.

One of the greatest matches I've seen live. Few things will compare to the atmosphere in that building that night. And ive been there for CM Punks ROH send off to WWE when he won the title... Triple H's return from knee surgery in early 2000s at MSG....

Been a Cena fan since his jbl feud this entrance against rvd is his best took absolute balls to do that and to play the heel the way he did was just absolutely amazing although hard to watch at the time shout out edge being the prick I always thought he was but Cena in this match played the natural heel role amazingly joint top with mitb against punk with the amount of heat he got from the crowd

The One Night Stand PPVs were fantastic, but WWE's version of ECW with their weekly shows was basically sunday night heat. CM Punk was on ECW, but other than him, there wasn't much great talent.
