Figueroa Street Elementary School took us to the movies in downtown Los Angeles when I was in the 6th grade. We watched a movie titled, And Now Miguel and the second movie was, Donovan's Reef. The song, Pearly Shells never left my mind from the moment I heard it. I am writing this comment in 2021, I am 66, I Still Love It! Aloha💕🏝🌋🏝💕
Donovan's Reef, 1963. Very funny movie that I saw when I was a child. ! What times those were ! . I love to live in the past, looking through rose-tinted glasses and looking back to a time that no longer exists.
Donovan's Reef! One of my favorites. Among some of the best, funniest, and last movies John Ford ever made. Marvin steals the movie. Ironically, Ford had to convince Marvin to do it. Use to watch this with the old man (a big John Wayne fan), and my brothers, ...with popcorn.
Donovan's Reef was a "FUN" movie. It had a real WWII hero in it, no not John Wayne but Lee Marvin! I like John Ford & John Wayne movies but this one was great. RIP & Semper Fi to Lee, one Marine to another!
Well for starters, just after this scene, the 'princess' gets up and sits down again before she was suppose to get up. The same thing happens when she has to get off the 'carriage'. The mistakes are not 'train smashing' stuff. But being a Virgo, I'm a perfectionist. :)
We were on Oahu in 2005, just only for a week, but these were some of the best days ever. After the holidays, back in Germany, O ask myself, what do I do in Germany, let's go back to paradies. I hope to get once to visit Hawaii again. Best greatings to Paradies.
One of the funny things about this movie , That bit were the aussies , Dumped the girls for the free beer, well when I was in the USN and stationed on Guam , when one of there P-3 ORIANS sub hunters flew in the first thing they ALWAYS off loaded were cases of Fosters in One liter cans.
I've searched among several mp3's to find this exact version with the both the girls and the guys singing but can't find one with ladies included. I definitely prefer hearing the women's voices along with the men's. ♥♫
Interesting how John Wayne opposed racial prejudice in both this movie and in "The Searchers". It's not how a lot of people stereotype the Duke. The effect on the doctor's children in this movie was pretty heart breaking.
those guys just added the english words to an old hawaiian tune - it isn't the english that's being sung here - but the hawaiian lyrics - "Pupu A `O `Ewa"

Mine too. I watch it EVERY week at least one. 'Donovan's Reef'I can tell you each and every mistake in the movie.
Just curious. What kinds of mistakes?

At 2:00, the costumes, the graceful dance and movements along with the music is absolutely beautiful!!! Wow!!!
This is one of those songs that just isn't the same when translated to English.... the grace and romance is lost.
99 luft balloons is the very same. By nena. German. English version lane. 👍
@@johnegli1308....."la mer" too (if that's the right spelling) sounds ridiculous in English 😢 but never mind it's incredible in the original French 😊❤
Love the Hawaiian Music. It's so relaxing and calming
Always always loved this movie and this song !!!!
Magnifique, on plane et on a l'impression se de trouver avec eux, le rêve !

This one of my fave john Wayne movies :D
A wonderfull song, love it.
Not too bad of a job piecing all of the different parts together to get the entire song presented. Thanks

LOL, pretty tune but composed and conducted by howlys Cyril J. Mockridge and Irvin Talbot. About as Polynesian as pineapple...

I agree.....still very nice though.
Kauai ist eine Hawaii Insel und hat nichts mit Polynesien zu tun
