I really love how the female dancer's dress becomes part of the dance, moving with her movements, and the male dancer's costume allows us to see the detail of the movement. It brings such a lovely balance.
beautifully put and exactly what i loved about the dance besides how lovely and meaningful it was
Dude is torn up, in amazing shape, but showing amazing control and grace!
Same thoughts!
I like how the man's undressed bess enhance it for me (jkjk, I love this hula I learned it on maui)
I think the dress is a bit too stiff and big. It distracts from her performance and hides the movements.
I love how in almost all cultures no matter if they connected or not, all have a way of dancing. It’s such a beautiful universal language.
it kills me everytime Hawaiian culture is appropriated/used as an aesthetic for a party or sum, their culture is actually so gorgeous and so much more than those plastic flowers you can buy at the dollar store
I wish my culture was pretty as that tbh
It's beautiful that no matter how awful the world gets, no matter how many dark things there have been, music, dance, and stories in their own way, culture to culture, unite us somehow. That and the word for "mom" sounding so similar in so many unrelated languages.
@@Iera_Thaumaturgy whats your culture??
Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time. I'm pretty sure dancing is somehow connectable to that metaphor, but I'm unsure how exactly.
I really love their description for Kalakaua, "The flower that never fades in the sun." i super love that. Imagine being described as poetic as this. wonderful
Hawaiians are really poetic in their songs.
The sacred cliff is also really good.
And a lot of their other verbal images are very good. 👍
"He is the beautiful flower of Hawaii." 😍
"Kalakaua is his name."
Understanding the lyrics gives the dance moves way more meaning. Just beautiful.
I think so too.
I can almost sing this now.
Will have to look up the full lyrics in Hawaiian sometime.
I can hear the Hawaiian place names, now that I know what they are.
To tell we understand and it's so cool to remember that there was not necessarily translation sometimes the dance told the story in the way your body moves and that is just so cool.. you can pass it down for generations and the dance and the meaning will always be the same
Fr and some lines were virtually identical to how u would say it in NZ Māori
I love how purposeful and direct she is and how graceful and delicate he's being, all while being totally in sync with eachother. I could watch this all day.
멋져요.
자꾸자꾸 보게 되네요♡
Where ?
Mark Zuckerberg forced Hawaiian natives off their lands, so his wife could have more privacy.
Honestly the culture is amazing and graceful i agree
Same, I could watch this all day long
how is it possible, that there are people on this earth who cannot love and appreciate the diversity in cultures that we are lucky to watch, enjoy and if invited, be part of. This Hula actually brought me to tears in its beauty.
same here
Because white is right and we are the best! All others are insignificant.
Ah yes, we like to call them the blissful ignorant. Hypocrites for short
While people destroyed all nonwhites
I have no idea. I sent it to him yesterday and today we are over! 😢But maybe… maybe it is god….
Lilo & Stitch was my favorite movie as a little girl. That one special movie I would watch over and over and over, that I knew basically all the lines and the music, even tho I didnt understood the english being spoken on the songs, way less hawaiian. But I would sing in my own way because it made me very happy. As years went by, the movie brings me much confort and heartfelt tears and joy for times that I cannot go back to & the surprise of understanding so many nuances as I get older. This song and Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride always were my go to when I needed to boost my mood and as I reach my 30th birthday in a couple of days, it hasnt changed. I tried to learn this dance when I was little but was never able to. Its beautiful and graceful and even more amazing seen in real humans! This song still gives me chills, now even more learning what it means and seeing this beautiful display of skill, culture and passion! My heart is happy!!!❤❤❤
Why don't you try again? I bet you could do it now!! ❤
I've watched lilo & stitch so much that, as soon a the video started playing in my feed, without sound, I immediately thought of lilo & stitch and had the click the video and heard the song! So beautiful ♥️ I hope you learn the dance still! It'll make your inner child happy 😊
I absolutely love how they're both dancing the exact same moves, with a difference in strength and grace, but both compliment each other so well.
very well said
Complement, actually.
But they probably compliment each other occasionally too. 😊😃😺😄☺
@@julistarling8382 I appreciate the correction. Definitely learned something new.
They are married…….
I only ever knew this song from Lilo and Stitch and though I loved the sound of it I always wondered what they were singing. So glad this video popped up on my recomended, now I can truly appreciate the song for what it is and it's meaning. Thank you for the translation and beautiful dancing.
Wholeheartedly agree!! ❤️ My daughter loves Lilo and Stitch and I'm excited to show this to her so she can read it to her. She'll probably try to mimic the dance too.
@@LottyDotty05 That would be beautiful to watch, to see your young daughter embrace another culture. It is such an interesting one.
А я постеснялась написать про мультфильм))))) танец- просто шедевр! Как будто то бы волшебный мир🌍🌸🐾
Our Hawaiian people has such rich and beautiful culture that's pure and this song shows just a bit to our mainland brothers and sisters what jewels that the USA really have that should not be lost destroyed or tampered with.
Adding the translation makes the meaning of each movement more clear to non-hawaiian people... this is just amazing, cant stop watching
@Don's Baby I think they meant more the translation of the dance which was included
Hula is a language of sorts (not 'Olēlo Hawai'i)
The Hawaii hula is one of the most beautiful forms of expression I've seen. It is different from other Polynesian dances. I love this song.
I love Polynesian dances and seeing u guys dancing made me more motivated to learn my own cultural dance (Ori Tahiti)
I am a former hula dancer, and all I could say is that this version of the dance is absolutely stunning!
I'm not a dancer at all, but she's floating out there!
@@segueoyuri She really is!
this is like my last dopamine inside my brain trying to cheer me up. it's very effective.
Thank you for the awesome choreography and nostalgia.
*slides in*
How ya doin now? I hope everything is alright. Stay strong, friend.
@@carenxatu5962 I'm doing fine right now. just trying to survive every other day. Thank you!
I listen to this song almost every morning to get into a good mood
Having lived through black depressions since I was 9 years old (I'm 66 now), I know precisely what you mean. Somehow, this song -- and now this dance -- gives me chills and a huge smile every time I hear it.
Idk if this thought process helps everyone, but keeping it in mind that all things are temporary, including sadness, really helps get through those particularly tough times.
The pain you feel today, might not be so bad tomorrow or the next day and so on. Sometimes, keeping that thought in the back of your mind while struggling can help the tough times seem a little shorter each time.
It's definitely a mind exercise that doesn't always feel like it's working early on, but after some time and mental effort it becomes subconscious and one day you'll randomly notice the improvements you've made.
Also, I know this is a broken record kind of statement, but do your best to socialise.
No matter how much you think to yourself that you don't want to or can't at certain times, that's your depression lying to you.
Depressions greatest weapon is to trick it's victims into thinking they WANT to be alone, it's greatest weakness is having social support, be that IRL or with online friends.
Sorry for the text wall, but I hope you're doing ok, and if you're not doing ok, that's alright. Progress isn't always linear. 🤗
I finally took a moment to watch this video. It made me appreciate the beauty and grace of the Hawai'ian people all the more.
This remains one of the best videos on RUclips. Thank you for sharing your culture with us
This is awesome, thank you so much for translating the dance movements - it's just so joyful and stunnig to watch!
Mahalo for watching!

the beauty of Hawaii!!!😍😍😍
Ever since I was a kid I thought Hawaiian culture was absolutely magnificent, Lilo and Stitch was one of my favourite movies growing up alongside Mulan. I would love to learn the language some day, I've heard it's endangered, and that both shocked me and pained me to the core. I know it won't disappear any time soon, but we can't let it die. There's just something else about Hawaiian culture that makes me feel things, I don't know how to describe it. This was beautiful, and nostalgic! Cheers from Argentina
It is not an endangered language, but that is going thru another revitalization ! I hear people speaking olelo in my field (history) all the time on campus. it take time, but learn if you would like!
University of Hawaii at Manoa offers the language. Love to see you on campus someday!
Aloha 🌴 is what it is 😊
@@chellesama8256 sadly, Argentina is going through an economic crisis at the moment and it's impossible to get out of here, but maybe in the future! I'd love to :')
@@Pinkninja987 good to know it's not endangered! That makes me happy, honestly. I still wish to give it a try, I'll see what I can do with the resources I have
I absolutely love this video. Two beautiful people outdoors dancing, just stunning. Beautiful. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
As a kid, I would watch Lilo and Stitch a lot, my mom would tell me that I used to try and dance to the opening hula, my TuTu came from Maui and moved to the mainland for college, so Lilo and Stitch was the closest thing to my heritage when I wasn’t with my TuTu
I almost teared up at the lyrics about the Chieftess for some reason? It was always my favorite part in the song when I was little and the translation showed how revered she was...it's beautiful
This is absolutely beautiful i’ve always wondered what this song meant and now i know thank you for sharing your wonderful culture and traditions with us
From a retired ballroom dancer, this was an absolute delight to watch. The grace and deliberation of the movement was absolutely wonderful. Thank you.
Oh goodness i am crying... That was beautiful...🌻♥️
This songs brings a lot of memories...
I felt exactly the same. Both the song and the dance spoke so directly to the heart.

Какая это народность?
You are both beautiful dancers. Thank you for putting the lyrics in English for us. It makes the story more beautiful with your dancing.
I really appreciate them remembering Kalākaua and giving him his respect with this beautiful dance and song.
Their dance is flowing smoothly like a sea wave.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen *actual* hula done by people that know what they’re doing. This is mesmerizing.
Hula was the first dance I learned, I was 6. Beautifully danced by this lovely couple. The hands tell the story...... I subbed...........I miss my home.
❤❤❤totally amazing! I love how people love and honour their cultures and traditions.
My childhood song from my favorite movie 💜
My husband and I have favorite "Happy Movies" we like to watch when we're feeling low. *Lilo and Stitch* is at the top of the list. We watched it with my parents once, and it charmed their socks off. They especially loved the DVD extras, like the delightful behind-the-scenes shot of the children's choir that performed the song.
Thank you so much for the translation! I’ve always wondered what it’s about and it’s even more beautiful than I imagined :)
Ugh this was my favorite part of the Lilo and Stitch movie as a little girl and now that I’m older to know what that song means I feel just a piece of my childhood is healed 😂🥰🥰
LA MELODÍA Y LA DANZA SON SIMPLEMENTE
HERMOSOS !!!!
❤❤❤
I always thought this dance was so beautiful when I saw it on Lilo and Stitch. Since then I have learned more about the dance and hula in general. That knowledge makes me love it even more. Thank you for sharing something so gorgeous and precious. It will be an honor to be able to learn it one day

Harmony, peace, beauty and sync this make me feel .... It's overwhelming joy inside...this is how people should be!!!!
The saddest part of Globalism is that beauty like this is lost. Love from SA 🇿🇦
I'm a traditional Asian Dancer but I never stop watching you guys dance!! Need a longer version 🙏🏻 please
❤️ 🇲🇾 MALAYSIA
I know zilch about Asian dance, let alone Malaysian. Can you direct me to any good, authentic vids? I'd love to learn more! And this gorgeous, high-energy vid has given me a huge smile on two consecutive mornings now. I think I'd better watch it once a day!
This song always makes me cry I don't know why! lol and the dancing just amplifies the emotion!
Feels the exact same way!
Same, I teared up watching this
I think I've watched this like a million times since I've found it. It's so beautiful and calming.. I love these native cultures with all their magic
I lived in Hawaii through grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
I loved all the festivals, songs, music, dancing, people, food, forests, climate... ❤
There are times that I still miss it.
My first impression of what a beach should be was forever imprinted in me by those beaches; every other beach has been a complete letdown.
I still celebrate Lei Day every May 1.
Ах, как же красиво... Моё сердце поёт и рот улыбается 😊👏👏👏
Очень красивый танец. Танцоры так органичны на фоне природы. Просто великолепно.
The reason the song pays homage to King Kalākaua is because he was the king that revitalised Hawaiian culture, bringing back things like the Hula in full force after it was banned for a very long time. Unfortunately he was also the second last king before Hawaii was annexed by the US
Absolutely breathtaking!
One thing i always love about this song is that it verbally and explicitally invokes Queen Lili'ulani 💜
Liliuokalani 😊
I'm not gonna lie...I think this is so beautiful I shed a tear whenever I watch it.
I was just going to say the same 🥹💜
Nga mihi nui and mahalo nui loa for including the translations! For those of us returning to our languages its nice to see!
Truly beautiful, thank you for sharing.
This is so beautiful to watch. I’m glad i watched Lilo and Stitch just for learning about this beautiful song, dance and Hawaiian culture that tends to misrepresented so easily by ppl who doesn’t care much about culture. I envy Hawaiians and all the different indigenous tribes who have these distinct, unique, beautiful and powerful cultures
Какая нежность в танце😍 сколько достоинства и чистоты! Очень красиво!
I have watched this on repeat. It's so beautiful and mesmerizing.
It looks like easy step but it's not. These couple is great. Kudos !!!
It looks so flowy and soft and mellifluous, but their breathing at the end it says that it is hard work! Really beautifully done. This is my first time seeing actual humans hula dance, and I think it's time for me to look in to it more!
As a kid you were "this sounds so good"
As you grow up and understands more you like " darn this is damn beautiful"
So graceful!!
This is what performed when I was a kid. Hearing this again brings me to tears and remembering how happy I was performing this. ❤
凄い何度も見てしまうくらい素敵…
Какой красивый плавный танец. Браво! И мелодичная песня. Здорово. Спасибо Ютюбу за рекомендацию.

I could watch this all day it's so beautiful. I really miss dancing hula. Wish i could dance again
Absolutely, beautiful!🦋
Damn. I first listened to this song 20 years ago and hearing it now I never realized before how important it was to my psyche and peace.
i can’t stop watching this. i love this song and the dancing is so beautifulll it makes me want to learn how to dance like that
This is absolutely mesmerizing. The incredibly soft and flowing motions are truly spellbinding 😍
Lilo and Stitch was one of my absolute favorite movies as a kid, and I'm honestly surprised I didn't break the VHS with the amount of times I rewind it in an attempt to learn both 5his dance an the song. I did not succeed 😂
I always loved hula so much and loved Hawaii and Hawaiin culture growing up... just watching this hula makes me feel like it's kind of like Zumba and Pilates in one 😅
Lilo &Stitch is one of my favourite Disneys and introduced my to this beautiful song.
No idea how I got here, but this is absolutely beautiful beyond words.
Beautiful song, singers and dancers thanks for sharing this video ☺️❤️❤️❤️from England 🏴🌹🙋
I could never forget the sweetness of this dance and the delight of this song
This dance is so beautiful. The words, meaning, movement. All of it, beautiful. I love and admire how the contrast of the Woman's movements, soft and flowey and the Man strong and purposeful both move gracefully in sync with each other. I say this with the highest respect, this dance goes HARD!!! 😍🤩🤩😍💕 💯
I danced this song when I was 4 years old in a school function, when I did it I felt very connected and grounded to a point that my mother started happy crying one day while I was practicing. Always remembered the song but never had the idea for how to look for it, and suddenly this appears. I'm crying with emotion and happiness, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.
Thanks Universe ❤️
This song is so beautiful
The movements are so graceful, poised, and elegant. I could watch them for hours. 😭❤️
I love their dance. After watching this, I feel like watching Lilo and Stitch.
Her dancing is like if someone combined flowing waves with a flower. His is graceful yet powerful, like a lion.
This is one of the most beautiful dances and cultures I’ve ever seen. I just finished learning basic hula dances❤
I actually started taking hula lessons a few months ago because of this exact video! Thank u SO much for inspiring me🙏🙏
Чарующая музыка, чарующий танец, затрагивает самые потаённые струны души, и так красиво танцуют! Браво!
Finally! A translation for a beautiful praise! The hula dancers were flawless as they moved as the elements of the water & air, very Divine inspirational! Beautifully done! 🥰🫶🌺🇵🇷👍🏆👏👏👏
How gorgeous! I hope that these songs and dances are preserved forever.
I’m so happy I found this ❤ LILO ❤Lilo and Stitch ❤
Absolutely gorgeous! Many thanks for translating the meaning of the song, it's very beautiful. Both their movements were so fluid and graceful, the masculine and feminine showing both powerful stances and gentle movement. I could watch this all day, thank you for sharing this 💕💕
Getting to see this, with translation for the lyrics. I love this dance, and I love it even more with the lyrics. The dancers are visibly just enjoying themselves and that's amazing! I also like that there is subtle differences in the dance style between them.
I can listen to this all day long 😊❤
This video is so incredible!! Love watching them dance as their movements are beautiful. ❤❤
I've watched this so many times, there's just something so comforting about it!
Oh my god! Finally! After years of adoring the song and dance I finally understood what it meant! Thank you so much.
They move like the waves of the ocean 😮
Magnificent! Soft, harmonious movements ❤
The key change in this song always makes me smile. What a treat to be able to see the full dance. Thank you!
Ahhhhhh, I watched this multiple times. Still so beautifullll
This song makes me cry every time i hear it, especially during that last key change. It may not be my culture, but I love how beautiful, powerful, gentle and strong it is all in one. The melody brings me to tears, and this IRL dance is flawless 🌺🌴🌺🌴🌺🌴
Thank you for adding the lyrics.
I really appreciate the translation of the meaning of this song. I found my heart deeply moved by this performance ❤️
Как это удивительно красиво!!!!! Простые движения,но так плавно с грацией, удивительное чувство ритма. Завораживает!
В этих движениях чудесный мир- море, деревья, небо!
