Hi Amy, I just wanted to pick up something you said about New Years Eve and how your depression just comes out of nowhere. I totally understand.....I suffer a similar issue where I can be bowling along quite happily and all of a sudden I am literally overwhelmed by waves of deep sadness.....sadness to the point it will drive me to tears if I don't try and remedy it. Just for context I'm 63yrs old and have only realised recently that I may have struggled with this issue virtually all my life. I have tried examining what might be the triggers and I can't nail it down to anything. I don't know if it will help anybody but I combat it it for the most part by keeping my mind occupied, the thought being if it's busy doing other things I can't let that other feeling in. I spend hours planning stuff and researching things that may not even come off and have found it has helped to a degree. It is wonderful your so open and honest about your mental health issues I think it can make a real difference to other people that may be suffering. There has always been a huge stigma with regard to mental health but thankfully I think the times are a changing and in part due to people like you. So keep up the good work!! As always blooming love you and Kyles videos.
Thank you for writing this as I suffer in the same way, one minute ok then not, also I hate my birthday,Christmas and New Year as know I should be happy but most times the complete opposite.I wish I could write and express myself as you have, great comments.
So sorry to hear you’ve struggled too. Glad that you’ve found what helps you, always keep going through the hard moments, they always pass ~ knowing that always helps me and the bike of course! Thanks for watching ☺️
you have inspired to get out and ride. I first rode to work in 1971, but as i aged i began to forget what i loved about cycling. You have done me a service. Please keep going. Thank you !!!! Old fogie in California
Offset by the fact he makes Amy pay for lunch. I forgot my card in mid November but the cafe owner gave me my lunch based on an honest face and told me to drop by the next time I was out. Went back in the car the same day because I felt like a right donkey.
What a great ride, with spectacular views.I am the same and can always feel down at times of celebration and hate my birthday,Christmas and New Year, but lucky to have a great family, and with fresh air and cycling this always helps.Love your adventures and what a team you and Kyle make.
I have only had one outdoor ride so far this year. It was lovely but cold and I always struggle to get the layers right, either having too many and sweating like a pig, or too few and shivering. I did bring my newly acquired O'Neal winter WP gloves though and they managed to keep my hands and fingers lovely warm. They are beef gloves but you can still work electronic shifters perfectly fine so great gloves.
You make a good point about speed Amy. That’s for warmer days. I’ve gradually trained myself to take it slow and steady in winter. Roads are in terrible condition, puddles in the middle of corners, ice, colder air. You aren’t going to break records so toddle a bit and enjoy the view. I live near the Cairngorms so you also have to keep an eye on the weather, it gets nasty very quickly at this time of year.
Amy I have always thought cycling is a great facilitator for seeing the simple things in our lives. A lovely day, beautiful scenery etc etc they are all for free and we are blind to them - cycling helps you see them and appreciate them. 👍😀
New year is always bad for me , this year I tied to treat it as a normal day and I think I coped better for it thanks again for your little talks they really help
Well done ,Happy New Year , nice to see you two out and enjoying yourself,s, before the rain came and flooded everywhere along the Trent Valley , especially , Sawley, Elvaston, Willington, and beyond and all the way to the CVV. and the weather is set to get very cold, so it maybe back to long walks with the dog for a while .🙂🙂
OMG! I was driving the rolling hills of the peak district a day after Christmas.... What sort of gradients are you guys raiding?😂😂 Glad im back in Malaysia where i can appreciate the warm sun . I cant imagine the wind and cold!
I’m so envious..unfortunately due to a head cold, cough &dicky stomach I haven’t even been able to get on the trainer or out on the road in 2024….it does put in perspective how I love and miss rides out on the bike 👊🏻
Amy u are amazing...I'm literally subbed to errrm 15 or sumat cycling channels and you clearly are my favourite...love ya drive it ace 👍.....keep going gal xx
I was exactly the same as you on New Years Eve. Awful mood. Couldn't think of anything to be excited about. I think the turning of the year does that to people who suffer from anxious periods. But like you I went out on my bike New Years Day and I was like a different person coming back.
@@amy.cycling.adventures me too, I used to live in market Drayton near Stoke, always used to drive up, egg and cheese double oatcakes in Newcastle. The man always said , what you avin Duck!!
Hi Amy! Stumbled across your channel on Monday and I love it! I also live in Derbyshire (Long Eaton) and have recently got on the bike to help me lose weight and set a good example for my little boy. Have you got any suggestions for routes that a slightly larger man could ride? Keep up the good work, you are both doing a fantastic job 🙂
Hiya! Ahh thanks for watching along 🫶 ohh we tend to go into the peaks 😂 but there is a great cafe we love - Cafe Velo Verde it has a car park and I think kamoot have some routes from near there that are all on quiet roads and not too hilly ☺️
Wow looks lovely where you are, I always go a similar sort of route when I ride and want some change, was looking at the garmin route thing on the connect app . You just pick the mileage and it plans your route, is it any good? Are they usually good cycling roads? So glad you found cycling, it’s helped me too :)
Great video as usual Amy. Based in Essex, we don’t have such lovely rides as you can access. Where are you based to be able to hit the Peaks so quickly? It’s my favourite part of the country. Can’t wait for my next visit. Have a great year!
Geez, nothing like promoting being happy then flipping the mood on poor Kyle, always getting the shaft from Amy, 2 videos in a row nonetheless...he should've stayed home I'd say !🙄
They seem to have a lovely relationship. Bit of light hearted banter doesn’t hurt anyone and keeps feet on the ground. Amy is a wee gem, so natural when she’s filming. Just enjoying being on the bike in that lovely countryside. I’m jealous because it’s an ice festival up north, can’t get out so stuck with indoor trainer in the garage.

Ahh yay this is so great to hear!! Wow California that’s some way from here, looks great there! Enjoy your rides ☺️
He doesn't want to admit it, but he decided to ride out because of you. What a man you got there.
What a kind thing to do - Kyle - you get a merit mark from me!

After 50years as a cyclist cycling has always been my therapy..even on a dark day it can ring some light.
Happy new year to you and kyle 2024 is going to be amazing

Yes Kyle! Winter weather is hit and miss at the best of times so when the sky is blue throw a leg over and get to the cafe 👌🏼

You sure live in a beautiful part of the country, and going for a bike ride is never a bad decision !
nearly as good as Cornwall :)
Quite right , no point thinking about speed at this time of year in the UK , thicker air and we've got 5 layers on

Miss Amy, Thank you for the post, at least the weather is fantastic. You are wearing Kyle down and he be riding on his own.
What a fab team u two make. ❤
Always carry a beer mat to put under the table at cafes to get them level or use your partners' credit card !!

Ohhh I’ll have to try it!
Always good to see you on the bike, especially when it lifts your spirits! And heyyy it's a cheeky Kyle sighting. (I think you two need a pet sheep)

I make 2 new years resolutions. To get out of mi bike, and to get through the year😊
Great ones ☺️ good not to put too much pressure on yourself. Enjoy your rides 🫶
@@amy.cycling.adventures thanks, and you both keep rolling along 😎
Consider yourself fortunate that you can ride a bike this time of the year. Still plenty of snow here in Sweden, makes roadcycling almost impossible
Ahh no! Hope you can get out soon & you’ll love it even more when you can ☺️
I need to learn from you Amy, go for a steady ride and enjoy it not always head down chasing speed.
Another good sport for your health is sailing dinghies. I only cycle for fitness for my sailing. You try it.
Keep up the great work.
Yes to the oatcakes. But why not Derbyshire Oatcakes in Ashbourne 😮
Humm not sure actually! Think they’re a Staffordshire thing maybe 😂
Nothing beats having the Peak district literally on your doorstep. Do you have any early season Audax's you could recommend, in the midlands?
There is a 100km in Leicestershire Sunday 18th Feb
Spring in the peak is a great one on 8th March! I’ve just signed up, 100km and hilly starts and ends at a great cafe in Hope
@@ashleyfrancis2903thanks will look that one up. 👍
