    My method was to just tie all the vines to a bamboo pole and call it a day. Explains why my vines boo at me when I walk by. Good info and demo Stephen! :)

      Ray I have picked that up for my tomatoes. or in the case of the beef stake you sent out this year just let it run out of the bed lol. I am trying to see if I can both make food and make it look nice. I figure the more I control them the more other stuff I can plant in the spaces :)

    Great idea with the velcro tape. I have never heard of it. I wonder if regular velcro would be cheaper?

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  10 лет назад

      it would work but regular velcro is typically abrasive on the catch side and may damage the plant. this is a good one just non-abrasive. I think a role of this is 2-3$

    HI there! I have a shirt almost the same as yours! I decided to keep my grape vine and see how it goes....I returned the one i had before and I got another one that is seedless and i am being training as well. I want it to be like a T shape if you know what I mean. I need post pictures of it soon.

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  10 лет назад

      I would love to see photos of your trellis. You can create a T-trellis using the same techniques I used and if you have more open space I would recommend using 4x4 posts as the basis and a T cross on top. that way you can great a 3 dimensional T on top! Good luck and let me know how you do!

    I plan to put in grapes this spring. But did I hear you say once that you also grow kiwis? I really would like to grow kiwis,
    I live in zone 5, just below you in MT. Also I have some more questions for you about what will grow in this area since I am new here.

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  7 лет назад

      Welcome to the community and sorry I was so late at replying. It's been a busy time here.
      I was going to grow kiwi until I found out the hard way I am allergic to them.
      There is plenty you can grow in your zone. If you like I can shoot you a clip I did on perennials.

    There are many components to table grape plants for sale. One plan I discovered that successfully combines these is the Grape grower folio (check it out on google) definately the most useful guide that I have ever heard of. Check out all the amazing info.

    Can you bury grapes the way you would bury water melon, or pumpkins to make that mass into roots?

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  10 лет назад +1

      You can in the spring when it's just budding. The buds will swap from leafs to roots. That said most grapes will push great root systems in one season. Propagation of grapes are often done with cuttings in the spring with several buds buried.

  • @ptrain9020

    How old were those plants when you shot this video? I have 3 year old plants that are supposed to bear fruit this year. Also, how many inches or feet past the top wire do you let the vertical shoot grow before you pinch off so that it forces side shoots? One other questions. How long do you let the horizontal shoots that go along the wire left and right grow before you pinch those off? This was a very helpful video for me.

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  8 лет назад

      +Patrick Pittman my vines have been in place for 2-3 years and all should bear this year. After the fruiting clusters come out in the spring you can pinch them off a few leaves past the shoot.
      As for how far I let them go really I am just starting to shape them as they are more established and will be pruning them to fit the space they have.
      vertical is usually 2-3 feet past the top wire.

    • @ptrain9020
      @ptrain9020 8 лет назад

      Ok I think I understand everything you're saying except for the part about the horizontal branches (the cordons) that are going left and right on the wires. My limited understanding is something about letting those cordons grow horizontally along the wire for about 8 feet on both sides and then you pinch them off to force fruiting spurs to occur. Is that correct? What is confusing me is when you say, "you can pinch them off a few leaves past the shoot."

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  8 лет назад

      the horizontals I usually keep them with in their area. usually 3-4 feet from the main trunk.

    • @ptrain9020
      @ptrain9020 8 лет назад

      Once they hit that 3 or 4 foot point, do you pinch them off and then that forces fruit clusters, or do the fruit cluster form before you pinch the cordons off?

    • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
      @AlbertaUrbanGarden  8 лет назад

      fruit clusters come out first thing in the spring. I pinch the growth off in June or July.
