- Colt Westbrook and Jason Stulce from Walrus Audio pedals visit That Pedal Show. We demo the EB-10 EQ Boost guitar effects pedal Monument V2 harmonic tremolo 385 Overdrive, Slö reverb, Julia chorus and ARP-87 delay.
Hello! Mick here. We’ve always loved Walrus Audio, so when pedal builders Colt and Jason called up to say they’d be visiting dear old Blighty, we just had to have them on the show to talk about life, the history of their business and maybe an effects pedal or two.
We kick off with a quiz, talk about some history stuff and get a listen to their latest and greatest.
Enjoy the episode!

Sold on the Slö. That will help with my hobby of never getting any better at guitar, just dropping notes into the abyss.
Sometimes I wonder what a better player I'd be if I didn't watch hours of pedal videos and you know, practiced the guitar.
Dont worry about it brother- this is what rock and roll has turned into- It is a bunch of middle aged men whose wallets and disposable income have long since outgrown their passion for actually making music and playing. Fingers press computer keys instead of frets and buying forums/gear reviews have replaced "favorite record/band" discussions. We are now 2 generations removed from anyone who gave a toss about the guitar (by my calculations it died when the last of the gen-x'ers hit 30) and "rock stars" have been reduced to shills for gear and concerts have turned into these "workshops sponsored by" -ya know, basically the lowest circles of hell.
It had a long run, one cannot really complain in the end- i mean; what other trend/fashion/taste lasted as long?
@@sempercompellis I can only hope that your comment is a huge /whooosh on my part. As in, "I hope I just missed the saracsm in this comment."
Greg Koch...pretty much a guitar two sets of fingers a pick an Amp(albeit his Koch sig amp has some pretty serious overdrive). But then how cool are these pedals! Julia took some time to raise to her level(sink to her depths). The Ages 5 stage is such a useful drive. It plays so well with other pedals and volume. Both of those are in either rotation or always on. So just have fun Tony!
Is this some kind of sick joke
Hahaha 😄 well to be fair, I have never had so much pleasure playing guitar since I discovered and watched hours of pedal, amps, gears etc videos on RUclips. I spent years playing songs, scales but never focusing on tones. Understanding something like impulse responses, the importance of how the voicing of pedals interact with the voicing of amps, man this change a lot. Good gear will never ruin good fingers but the wrong gear would definitely ruin the greatest fingers. What always makes me want to pick my guitar and play is the pleasure of a great sound coming to my ears. The pleasant the sound is, the more I want to play.
I have nothing but good things to say about Walrus Audio. Their customer service is second to none.
Great tones, the Earth moved when I was watching this episode.
Literally - there was a 5.0 earthquake about 150 miles away.
Too bad it wasn't earthquaker devices on the show!
Love the shirts. Far more appropriate than anagrams made from "Dan And Mick"
Hahahhaha
Man Nad…ohhhhh.
Nice one Kyle. 😂
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Walrus has become my favorite boutique pedal brand. Their pedal sounds and features are so unique but still so musically usable. A lot of pedal makers are coming up with these sounds that are fun to mess with but are completely unusable in a song but Walrus sounds are so beautiful and usable.
Yep musicality must come first.
I've only gone heavily into shaping my sound with pedals this year after decades of playing, and Walrus was one of the first brands that made me consider that there was a lot more to be had than a Tubescreamer, Carbon Copy and Phase 90. I've got Lillian, Julia, and Fathom on my board, all three are great.
I’m watching this again today as a “playing next video” video in mid lock down
It’s so nice to see people close together, nearly touching, steady tiger, laughing and talking and most importantly at ease with each other. Dare I say it, I miss that, I miss the day to day interaction and more so the musicianship banter, nods and winks. Aaaahhhh
What a great little company Walrus Audio is.. Colt and Jason seem very approachable too. I'm gonna try a couple of these pedals now..
These are some of the best tones I've heard. The amps, the pedals, the playing, all sublime!
Having just purchased the ARP-87 and Fathom I can't say how much I love these guys and their pedals!
Pedal makers on That Pedal Show, you know it’s going to be a good one. Would really love to see Jamie on here one day (such a shame you couldn’t grab him when he was on Andertons recently!)
I am enamored with this line of pedals. They are all so interesting and rather different than most everything that is out on the market. I bought the Monument V2 after watching the harmonic tremolo episode and have used it nearly every time I have played recently. I have gone though many pedals over the years and never a tremolo! I really appreciate these manufacture episodes. I always learn so much new information. Thanks you guys!
We’ve said a couple of times that everything they make sounds awesome. No change from that. :0)
What lovely guys! Always nice to see that the people behind these awesome products are normal, humble, tone-loving gear nerds like the rest of us.
Yep. It’s a feature of the modern quality pedal market in the main. Passionate people following their passion. Very cool. :0)
Walrus Audio, these guys make awesome pedals. The Julia is a fantastic pedal. That pedal has never left my board. I’m ready to pull the trigger on the Lillian. Like I need another pedal but it’s going to be my soon. TPS you guys are awesome as always. Thanks for another great Friday morning.
Epic sounds galore. That is all. Love you guys!!!
-Aaron
I always love seeing the people behind the product, and doubly love finding out that they're good, thoughtful people that care about the end user as much as the money.
22 seconds and Mick already touching knobs, LOVE YOU !
I like how Jason and Colt look EXACLY like they would run such a company as Walrus audio. I mean they look like that types of dudes doing that crazy types of pedals. Intriguingness!!
Mick's face at 0:58 is priceless. Love watching you guys. Thanks for all the great information and great sounds!
Loved it! ARP87 is one of my board faves! I'd love a board of just their stuff, it all sounds righteous.
Excellent show gents!! Really engaging and entertaining!
Man, love my Walrus Audio pedals! Great video, guys!
From a fellow Okie, super excited to see these guys on the show!
Love you guys....listening to you and the Walrus team tweaked an old use of my CB Valcoder....gunned the input and output with minimal depth and medium speed setting....killer... thank you
Top show guys. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I liked this episode so much I watched it twice.
Not a bad pedal in the bunch guys, killer tones.
I love Walrus Audio. I happened upon a Julia and bought it. Love it. Quality unit for sure. Tones are amazing. I had some questions and Jason was awesome. I have worked with some other pedal makers whose customer service left a lot to be desired. Walrus Audio was excellent. Keep up the good work WA!!!
Thx for this one! I bought a SLö due to this episode.... Expensive show to watch ;-)
Great guests!!!
Just now getting to watch this. Great episode... a really nice conversation. And the Wet/Dry tones at 1:02:24 were FANTASTIC!
Cheers guys, ace episode. :))
Great episode- love the idea of having pedlal maker interviews!
Had a rough day today but now I am watching TPS with a Tele in my hands and a beer on the amp and live is good. Love the Walrus Audio 385 Overdrive and the Supro sound great. Thanks guys.
Yeah baby! Big cheers to you!
great episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Walrus just makes the coolest pedals. I got the Monument V2 a while back and it's just sublime
Enjoyed this episode. Do more like this.
This is so great! 😁
Dan and the SLO (especially with the Ed Strat) - that was just MAGICAL.
New episodes of TPS are the real reason I stay up til 4 am on the west coast.
im waiting my Slo to arrive!! now you guys made me buy Julia!! awesome sounds!
Absolutely amazing playing on the Supro Mick, very inspiring....Thanks for turning me onto Blake Mills...my mind has been blown!!!
Nice one Martin. We can all thank Joey Landreth. He started this. (For me anyway). :0)
I had no idea that Tim Tebow was also a pedal designer. Simply amazing. Loved this episode...the Walrus guys were great and their pedals are definitely worth checking out.
Very informative! Many thanks 👍
Those Cinema amps are Bell and Howell Filmosounds. I have a 285. It's from the 50s and it's amazing.
Just got my slotva and have to say nice job and well done to everyone at tps and walrus audio. This pedal is my now go to for reverb. I pair it with a cloak from catalinbread. Cheers❤
Great episode. The Walrus Contraband is a fantastic fuzz unit. Instant J Mascis Lead sound.
Awesome episode as always! Only complaint is I was reeeeallly hoping to see what Dan&Mick could do with the Luminary Octave Generator. Plz include this pedal sometime!!!
Very excited for this one. Walrus has dominated my purchases of late and there’s several pedals I’m still gassing for
Wow the Julia has something really special!! It sounds very authentic, and the guitar tone is kept in tack which is very important
Nice fellas and they make great stuff......that harmonic trem may be in my future
Learning SO much in this episode. I never got what the bucket brigade chip had to do with modulation effects. Now I do :)
Great stuff! Big fan of Walrus pedals.
I first heard about these film projector amps at an interview with Blake Mills. Later I saw Tim Pierce using one but I was flashed when I looked through the auction catalouge for the estate of Walter Becker (may he rest in peace). Besides the crazy number of guitars, basses, amps and effects there were at least 10 or more of these film projector amps up for auction.
I've always liked WA's Julia Chorus and Monument. Also, surprised that no one talked in depth about WA's power supply - the 15 output.
helloooooo.....Gig rig?
@@MorleyRobertson1975 Helloooooooo! I believe G2 is a switcher (www.thegigrig.com/g2). I'm talking about isolated power supplies such as Walrus Audio's (www.walrusaudio.com/collections/power-supplies/products/phoenix-15-output-power-supply-120v-230v-1) or GigRig's power supplies (www.thegigrig.com/power).
I love that 385 pedal. It sounds great. I've seen a number of old film projector amps, and I think it's really great that Walrus is trying to bring that aesthetic to pedals.
When Colt jumps on the 385 and Slo at 1:14:00, that's my kind of music. Probably not a surprise that BRMC is in my iPod. I don't know that I'd call them "post-rock"; they sound like a natural progression from The Jesus & Mary Chain, to me.
Indeed 385-Mon-SLO Pretty much all right there
Great Episode! You guys can make life hard :). I was leaning towards a Julia a few months ago (via a RUclips Chorus comparison). This Episodes makes the decision easy for the 2nd pedalboard (my 1st board is a Boss only board because I'm a old man and grew up with Boss). The Julia is just a stunning chorus with a great full tone but not muddy at all. While writing this comment I'm still looking at the show at 45 minutes so have to watch the rest of the content. Great Show as Always Dan and Mick!!!
Super likable guys, really enjoyed the video. Haven't owned a WA pedal but my buddy has a couple and they sound great!
Wow, new respect for SLO. I have the Monument and it's brilliant, but damn - I love ALL the Walrus stuff now!
Thanks for this episode, mates. I've a much clearer understanding of Walrus Audio now, and might maybe just might add the 385 and Slo to my signal chain.
Gemma Seymour 385 is my most used and favourite drive. You won’t regret it.
I love my War Horn. That 385 ... wow!
I'm getting a monument. Waited long enough.
I love when you have manufacturers on
The 385 is my overdrive of choice with my Coodercaster. It's just gorgeous with the gold foil
pickup.
That is a solid all-around board, just as is.
My first experience with Walrus Audio was at Winter NAMM (2019) and each one I plugged into and played were very nice (didn't have much time but it was with headphones on)...I have yet to own one....perhaps it's time! And I love Space Themes!
Great show guys. I have a Fathom and a Monument, great pedals. 385 next me thinks.
4’ in and I already spilled my coffee from laughing. 3-0. epic. 😂 Let’s see the rest of this…
(PS: I got a Julia last weekend, reason I came to see this.)
Was looking for that!
Had the ARP, Iron Horse V1, currently have the 385 on my board. Not a bad sound to be found in any of them. And they seem like great lads too. Well played Walruses. Fun episode.
The ARP 87 is absolutely one of my most favorite pedals of all time. Especially the Lo-Fi mode... which unfortunately I don't see showcased that much in WA demo's. The Lillian was already on my 'must buy' list, but now the Slo, 385 and EB 10 are on that list as well.
I started with the slo. Just ordered the Lillian. Walrus infiltrating the board!!!!
Phil Spill same. 385, Julia and Kangra next. Maybe SLO and Lillian next. Especially since they’re doing top mounted jacks now.
@@countstoneula I like your style
Same here. Started with the slotva and ended my never ending search for a great reverb. I mix mine with the cloak by catalinbread.
I’m quiet sold on that SLO !
I watched every minute of this. Originally I was deciding between a Julia & Monument to add to my ARP-87 & SLO... but I guess I'm probably getting both AND adding a Kangra.
More pedal makers please. Would love to hear from the Meris crew.
Three minutes in. Already LOVING it. Hahaha, laughing my ass off. "432Hz tuned modern orchestral triangle with striking device" :'D haha!
That boost sounds friggin great.
Gohlee man.. Walrus sounds... Pure beautiful genius.
That tone at 19.46.....
Brilliant Mick!
Nice playin`
Cheers!
Thank you!
That 335 always sounds phenomenal!!!!!
More stuff to add to my lust list!
Just purchased the neon pink Julia :)
🎶🎶 ... I had fallen through a TV screen into an ep of Twin Peaks ,, it was dark I was drawn to a light in a garage opened side door to find David Lynch who had 3 pairs of arms, he was writing a book, playing guitar and painting simultaneously and on his TV was the ep of TPS & Walrus Audio ......
ahhh now I want them all
Just grabbed the Walrus Emissary bout to run it through my Carr Telstar. Can’t wait.
love these pedalssssssss
Kept wanting some Purple Rain with that Julia!
I love my monument pedal, and now I'm very tempted by the 385 overdrive, sounds right up my street.
me too
My favourite overdrive. Highly recommend!
I enjoyed this one
I love Mick’s stool 😍
Most expensive stool I’ve ever bought.
Mick: “Dan: 6,941.5”
WA: yeah._.
So close mick, so close
Loved the intro by Dan.
Still rocking the Fathom on my board. Great pedal. I've been wanting the ARP-87 for a while, but I'd already wasted money on the Dunlop Echoplex and it gets the job done.
Always wanted a Julia but now that I know how small business and Americana they are I am going to buy it and another favorite.
Jason sounds just like John C Reilly. I kept waiting on something like “I like to picture Jesus in a tuxedo T-shirt because it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party.”
I like Walrus Audios. I have Warhorn, its cool. Monument v2, its great. Artworks are the best. Thank you guys.
I am such a nerd that I make a Powerpoint slide, actually a SERIES of Powerpoint slides, showing all of my pedals, their function, and my highly subjective grade for each. Walrus Audio gets the highest grades: ARP-87 A+, Polychrome A+, Warhorn A+, Ages A. No other manufacturer gets close. Electro-Harmonix has an A+ pedal (the Oceans 11 Reverb). Boss has a single A+ (RE-202 Space Echo). JHS gets ONE A+ (Colour Box Pre-amp). No one else has even a single A+/ Walrus has an A+ AVERAGE. Well done, fellows.
May I suggest a cheesy crowd applause sample used whenever guest are introduced?
I love this. Mick here.
@@ThatPedalShow Hello.
@@trajtemberg hahahaha
Very well thought.
make it happen lads
Ha ha the look on Mick's face every time Colt played
