      Exactly! I built my daughter the first AM5 7800X3D, I was so thrilled it was rock solid! I ended up building one for myself and another for a friend. Intel pushes their hardware to thermal limits that just damages the silicone over time and performance has to be dropped over time to prevent super annoying lockups. They just beat the hell out of their silicone and they don't give a crap. They just want to make it to the finish line first. Just like that Star Trek TNG episode where the romulans burned out their warp engines to get to Tin Man first.

    Good idea, I would do the same if I was having major issues with one CPU or manufacturer, I'd just switch for a while, let them fix it or release new parts before going back to them. I switched to AMD mostly because of Intel's ridiculous temps which started on 7th gen I believe, and now they've got ridiculous power usage, no consumer CPU should use more than 150w let alone 250w and up to 350w at times.

      That is such a waste man... I have a 5900X too and if you tune thePBO limits: TDP EDC and TDC limits, along with the Curve Optimizer, you can it to run 4.7 with 70C or so. But it can boost as high as 4.9 in idle loads. You do have to turn off Asus multi core enhancement, as that pushes too much power into the chip. Tune the TDP to limit your chip to run at 70 C under full load - so it depends on your cooler.
      It is a waste, because after 70C the chip starts to reduce its clock speed more, due to heat. You are leaving 11C of performance on the table there...
      My chip has 4 cores that cant do -30 on the Curve Optimizer, but the rest can... (its -4 -16 -24 and -28, the rest has -30). So there is a lot of trail and error to figure out the CO settings, but if you get a WHEA error on a crash, it will tell you what core crashed and which CO setting you need to raise for more stability.
      FYI, CO will reduce the voltage for a given clock speed. So your chip runs cooler, and thus it will also boost higher at the same time.

    Is this the latency thing brian was talking about weeks ago with the io being the mainboard? I still don't fully understand it but did not seem to effect a gaming rig but rather content creators and productivity of heavy use.
    I have been using a 12700k since the beginning of 2022 and other than a bios update to fix sleep and a undervolt my system hardware has been great.
    Windows 11 gives me all the problems with bad or failing updates though. I recommend everyone run sfc /scannow like once a week or after every update and do not install and preview updates.
    My rig is just for gaming though.

    • @totalermist
      @totalermist 2 месяца назад

      I had latency issues and the same mouse issues plus random short (~ half a second or so) freezes on the desktop as well. Temps also went ballistic when the CPU was under load.
      Turns out, it was the power limits, which were unlocked by default. I went into the BIOS and set PL1/PL2 as well as current limits to the "recommended" Intel defaults and wouldn't you know it - no more problems.
      After the whole thing blew up lately, I went and installed the latest BIOS for my Gigabyte board and boy what a disaster that was. Performance dropped by ~30%, the CPU behaved weirdly (clocks were all over the place and turbo boost didn't work at all) and none of the manual settings seemed to have any effect either. Switched back to the previous (non-beta) BIAS, loaded my previous profile and everything was fine again.

      6000 is the sweet spot for AMD currently. Check the QVL on the AMD motherboard you plan to buy. Make sure the RAM is on it. If so, you can try 6400, but if it doesn't work then just manually lower it to 6000.

    • @BreakingDimes

      You can manually just set the Expo or XMP profile and lower the speed from 6400 to 6000 so it gives you all the timings and everything but you can run it to Sweet Spot speed

    It's great to see this video, I currently have a 3960x threadripper, it's an excellent processor, but for video editing and occasional games, I see that it doesn't perform well, so I started researching a lot, and saw that Intel for video editing is better than the amds precisely because they have the igpu that accelerates some codecs that not even the RTX4090 supports, and looking at some benchmarks the 14900k for example in almost all things is better than my treadripper, but I also know that it already The fifteenth generation is soon to be launched, I hope they fix these problems because I'm looking to migrate to Intel or that AMD launches something similar to Intel's quick sync, then it would be perfect.

    Great video as always Erock, I have a quote to sum up the situation...
    "There's not too many times you get a chance to make a second first impression" (Jesse Palmer)
    Intel has had 3 generations of processors on this platform (Z690/790).
    The forums/reddit/Facebook have been scattered with people reporting issues like this dating back to the release of 12th gen. Intel is on a 3rd impression if you will.
    I also find it ironic that near the end of the platform they are starting to acknowledge the issues that the architecture/platform has, but go on to blacklist people like Bryan and probably even myself if I was to guess with the success of my one video last year.
    Don't get me wrong I still use this platform everyday, and out of some sick toxic labor of love (literally months of tuning/optimizing) I enjoy my machine, but...
    you are right, NOBODY should go through what you, myself, or many of these users in the comments have said. Even if it's not everyone experiencing issues, the number of actual complaints shouldn't be as high as they are.
    Thanks again for the time you put into this.

    • @ErockOnTech
      @ErockOnTech  2 месяца назад +4

      Thank you for the comment man! Yeah that quote reminds me of an old friend of mine. He used to say “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” Very similar!
      As for the blacklist, I’m sure I’m on the list now haha 🤣
      Honestly man, I rather just make the content I want to make without any strings attached. So if I have to pay for the hardware, then so be it. No company gets ahead by trying to suppress reviews. If anything, it just fires up the creator even more! Well, at least it does for me anyway.

    I've heard for years about Intel being far more stable than AMD, only to now hear the script kinda flipping. My first PC build is coming up and I'm going for a full AMD build (7600X + 7800XT). I have no desire to go Team Blue at this point, especially when I'm paying more for less. The 7600 (both X and non-X) consistently beats out the 13400 and 14400 in gaming tests, despite being routinely cheaper than either of those CPUs, or at least very close in price.

    Solid video man. I was on the fence when the 7800x3d came out. I saw your video for that, and just too many people were having the same sort of issues so I decided to hold off. I'm glad to hear they turned the ship around. I'm just about due for an upgrade. My i7 8700k with an RTX3090 is still kicking ass, but I'm starting to notice my frames aren't as consistent as they could be. To top it off, my girl is using my old 4690k with a GTX 1080 and she's struggling on a lot of the stuff we play together like Helldiver's 2. So I'm thinking of giving my 8700k and 3090 to my little brother and going all AMD for my household. But now the dilema is whether to go with a 7800x3d, or wait until AMD announces it's successors and compare it to Arrow Lake (desktop). So all you have to decide is, do you want to wait another 33 days to find out? I can say if you buy a 7800X3D, you will love it. • @herpderp3653
    @herpderp3653 2 месяца назад +2

    intel became amd (of old) by making their chips into toasters instead of making needed changes to the architecture. Maybe things would have been different if they didn't fire all their chip designers 14 years ago and sat on their ass by iterating on the same stuff over and over because it was more cost effective instead of innovating.

    Hey since you’re more technically advanced than me and switched to am5. I’m not much of a tweaker, I went in the bios and turned on all the good stuff. Ran into an extreme mode with competitive ram timings. My 7700x turbos above 5ghz and runs hot on some games. 240mm aio. My friends told me to stop looking on afterburner and just play the game. So I did just that. I did get some kryonaut paste but I’ve seen it thermally throttle under full load (non gaming)

    • @ErockOnTech
      @ErockOnTech  2 месяца назад

      A few things here. 1. have you tried implementing curve optimizer? Apply a negative all core offset. This will help. 2. 240mm AIO are basically on par with air coolers. You could upgrade to a 280mm AIO or a 360mm AIO. 3. Most CPUs these days hit thermal throttle under full load these days it seems unless you have a very good cooling solution. 4. You can also try Eco Mode in the bios.

I did always made my manual OC and I never experience any blue screens or other faults. I disagree as well that most up to date is always better. Since going to the intel baseline profile and just manually tuning a few things It feels a bit more stable-ish but the issue imo are not entirely on the motherboard manufacturers. Intels shifting the blame. If it was merely the motherboard manufacturers then it should be a quick simple bios revision / problems solved right ? Even with the bios, the intel baseline profile and xmp disabled I’m still seeing other people as well as I notice some of the same little issue that recently started popping up. I honestly think there’s some possible chip degradation going on with the 14900k skus. Just my theory. Once stable systems are no longer stable. I’m talking about systems with Manual oc, locking cores and voltages and always staying within the intel pl1 /pl2 limits and voltages. Somethings not right if your seeing systems that manually tuned that know intel in an out who didn’t already trust the motherboard bios to take care of voltage and pl limits. I am fairly certain this isn’t isn’t going away, welll sell more users have these problems and this is just a bandaid fix by intel. I’ve seen one user actually rma his 14900k twice before he got a good one. Same board, same everything but mysteriously why did it take that many rma to get one that was perfectly stable as he claims. I can’t verify his claims but hey it’s gotta be worth lookin into. Wondering if quality control is down or they just simply aren’t testing these chips long enough and in as many boards as they should.
    I hope Intel gets it together and works towards efficiency rather than just shoving more power into these chips.

    11:35 I have that same motherboard, but the ATX version. I bought it on eBay for $30 with 5-6 bent pins, fixed them, and also from eBay, I bought a 7800X3D for $280 fully sealed. I was supposed to get a 2 x 16 Gb 6000Mhz RAM OpenBox, but the eBay seller sent me a 6800Mhz completely new kit, fired up, and everything works great, yes, including EXPO at 6800Mhz, ended up selecting the option to optimize RAM for higher memory bandwidth (other option is lower latency) and also has been working perfectly with a EVGA XC3 Hybrid 3080 12Gb. i recommmend to get G.Skill Trident Z5 6400 CL32 if you want best performance & latency but that Z5 6000 is already nice enough yea.
    i dont really recommend going Gigabyte for AM5 rn due bios quirk and voltage regulation
    the best one to run at low power rn are MSI (with terrible RGB support) while ASUS is still the go-to for OC.. AsRock offer the most out of the pricetag
    for configuration suggestion, try PBO -25 or -30 with soc going 1.2v for that 7800X3D!.. the platform is insanely efficient its amazing (the early launch 7000X CPUs is the only exception).
    particularly important BIOS settings are making sure DDR5 Nitro are enabled, it'll make first time memory training longer but long-run stability (also hard req for 6400).
