@@BangkokPat no need to say sorry all I mean is it's always great content and I'm often wondering when the next video is as they are always fascinating to watch. Great work!
I remember attending that concert, but that's about all. I do remember that as soon as I saw that album cover I recognized the area it was taken in. Which as Pat discovered is off of Phetburi road. Goes to show you how much the landscape here has changed. Once you left Makkasan in those days you were heading out into the sticks. I used to peer over the walls of the train graveyard there to see steam engines parked here and there. I was also lucky enough to have seen the Pretenders as Thammasat as well. I remember that there was an incident where the police got a big rough with someone trying to get on stage and Chrissie remonstrated with them to take it easy. The expat/western foreign population was so much smaller than. There were only a relative handful of westerners there, and many of us knew or recognized each other.
Wow you were there, and explored Makkasan too! I saw The Pretenders here in Bkk in 2004 at BEC Tero Hall at Suan Lum Rama 4, it was a double night with Bryan Ferry so 2 gigs for one ticket, fabulous night it was. Chrissie talked a lot to the crowd but Bryan was the opposite, hardly said a word.
Pleasure to meet you today at Silom Complex today I was hesitating to say hello as my wife said you looked too young to be the guy in the RUclips videos. Whole family enjoy your informative vids. Keep up the great content.
You too Stephen and your wife was kind enough to compliment me, which was the best part! Glad you and the family like the videos, gonna put them out more often!
In 1983 I was 23 and loved the Clash. I used to go to Siam Square to buy punk inspired clothes. Good to imagine The Clash influenced young Bangkok fashionistas at the time!
My first two nights in Thailand were spent at the Bangkok Palace hotel, every time I pass it on the highway it takes me all the way back, over 20 years, that sends nice shivers down my spine :)
I tried to find the location of The Clash cover a couple of years ago, unsuccessfully. Now I live in Prachinburi, but I'll make a trip to Bangkok only to follow the guidance of your video. Great stuff! 🙏🤟
I seen the Clash on that world tour in Sydney Australia, there were no tracks played from Combat Rock, more then likely not even written, really enjoy these type of videos

Great work from the best researcher of Bangkok about the location of the photo shoot of CLASH in Bangkok finally we know the true location👌, well done Pat, I really enjoy this video.
Brilliant! I can remember buying that album in ‘82. Excellent bit of super sleuthing there, Pat 👍 I actually had goosebumps when you did the big reveal at the end. cracking video!!!!!! having lived in Bangkok from 2015 till 2019 with my 1st visit in 1999, there is no way those pasty white Brits walked several KM in the heat and humidity of BKK especially hung over and stung out, they must have gotten transport from the Hotel to the film location.
I was at weeding reception in Bangkok in 1984. And sat to 70 year old mamasan She told me she had a good friend named Joe strummer and mentioned topa regan. I was shocked how a 70 year old thia would know them. I was amazed of how much respect she had from the rest of the thias. Apparently she was very famous lady. She chosen to look after the clash wile on there thia tour. She also told me they mentioned her in one of the tracks on combat rock. Which says MAMA MAMA SAN. I believed her.
Thank you Pat. Usually, I live in the areas mentioned in your video. This video helps me enjoy these areas further upon my coming trip to Bangkok in December. Bravo!
