    I have to confess - I've always eaten the whole Romaine leaf. Never heard of removing the white rib. So much easier to use the entire leaf. PS - your new hair look is SUPER cute, Berta! Truly - looks terrific! Have a great weekend and be well! ❤️🥕❤️

      You know I am just me, Jane...I didn't like the taste of the rib until recently 🙄, so I thought I'd just share what I did. I appreciate your comment. I will have to now try, again, the whole Romaine leaf. It's worth the effort now that you've pointed it out.
      Do have a stupendous day! Always enjoy hearing from you. 😁❤

    Rockin' the new hair style, Berta Jay! Gorgeous! The ribs of the romaine are my favorite part, so crunchy and moist; I never understood cutting them out. The same with broccoli; the stems (once they are peeled) are so sweet and don't have the bitter bite of the florets. And, tomatoes will absolutely freeze for cooking! When I have an overproductive tomato plant, a quick blanche to remove the peel will suffice, and them put them whole in a freezer bag. Delicious fresh tasting marinara in the dead of winter! Thanks for this lovely little video! Is anyone else having trouble with the notifications?

  • @vjc4502
    @vjc4502 3 года назад +3

    I never took out the vein of romaine. I eat it all. I just bought a bag of tomatoes on clearance so I think I will freeze them & use for future tomato sauce. I freeze kale & spinach then add them to smoothies or saute' them. Yummy!

    Hi Berta 💜
    Recently I’ve had a bunch of zucchini from my garden, so I spiraled some and froze it, I divided it then put it into sandwich baggies, so whenever I am making a stirfry, vegetable soup or a casserole, I can easily add my frozen spiraled zucchini…… perfect💪

    Hi. Thanks for the tips. I just stumbled onto your excellent channel. I usually freeze chopped green prppers, carrots, chopped onions, chopped coriander, chillies, garlic and mushrooms. I usually put them in a ziplock bag and store in freezer. I saw your previous video on storing salad greens in the refridgerator. I am hoing to try and follow your advice in how to keep salad leaves fresh. 🍃.

    Hi Ms Berta! You're rockin' a new hair style! Looks great!
    Excellent ideas for using the center veins of the romaine lettuce. I've never separated the leaves from the veins of the romaine but definitely will try it because of the uses you demonstrated. What a creative idea to use the chopped pieces as a topping! I've heard that we "eat" with our eyes so anything that levels up the presentation is always fun to try!
    While I've often used frozen tomatoes in cooking, you're right .... the frozen lettuce doesn't work well. I've had some salad makings find their way to the back of the refrigerator and either partially freeze or were forgotten about so rather than toss them, I experimented with processing the items in a blender with just enough water (have to eyeball it!) to make a slurry. I discovered the slurry composts more quickly than do the chunked up veggie scraps. I really don't like to waste anything so composting garden veggies that might have been frost-bitten or partially frozen in the refrig has been a way to utilize them. I've processed fresh spinach leaves as well but have poured the slurry into ice cube trays to freeze and add to smoothies. That's about the extent of my creativity, Ms Berta!! LOL
    Thanks for another video!! 😃

    Hi, Berta Jay,
    I just wanted you to know how much I love your videos and how much they brighten my day. I love all your tips and tricks and recipes that you suggest… I wanted to let know I just received my first shipment of balsamic vinegar from Wild Rose. I agree with you, they are delicious. I also wanted to let you know that I used apple cider vinegar to get me through menopause hot flashes. Somehow the vinegar totally stopped the hot flashes so I could sleep at night and go to work rested the next day. Maybe this is more information then anyone would want but I have also used apple cider vinegar for kidney stones for my daughter and grand daughter and bladder infections that I have gotten. I am a firm believer in the many health benefits of apple cider vinegar and I love it so much.
    Thank you so much for all you do for us all ❤️🙂.

    Hi Berta. I have been on a Keto Diet since Feb 2022. I make an Avocado Dip. I use Avocado's, Romaine Lettuce "all of it", Kale, Celery Green onion, Tyme, Mint, Spearmint, Dill, Ginger "Home made powder", Turmeric, Himalayan pink Sea Salt, Extra Virgin Olive oil, Garlic cloves, Garlic Chives, Parsley, Sweet peppers, Pumpkin Seeds, Spinach and Leafy Greens. I freeze most of my ingredients because it's easier to do a big batch with each item, or the ones I choose. Most times I use them all. I am trying to find out how much of the nutrients are lost when they are frozen? For My Wife and myself I make enough dip for 3-4 days, it takes about 6 Avocado's. Yummy Yummy in OUR TUMMY.🥰

    A trick to extend iceberg lettuce is to knock its heart out. You knock the lettuce head, heart down, facing the table, and then rip it out. Iceberg will last 4 weeks that way and you can then freeze it to throw in soups (hey, it’s vitamins, why waste it?)
    You can use this heart by suspending it via toothpicks in a glass of water til it sprouts roots and you can replant and get yet more lettuce from it, and so on.
