  • Quick tutorial that will show you how you can quickly copy your games and files into Batocera. It's a new feature introduced with Batocera 31.
I want to emphasize that you connect your Ethernet cable from your Windows PC to your Batocera system. I did not connect it to my Wifi Router.

I really appreciate your videos. I’m building a Batocera arcade to hang on my wall and couldn’t do it without your help. Now this is a strange random thing to comment on, but I have to say you really have a great voice. You should consider public speaking, story telling, audio book recording, etc. you have a nice tone and intonation in the way you speak. Or just carry on with RUclips lol. Thanks again bro.

You got options: "Just thought I'd share what worked for me. So you have your USB flashed with Batocera, right. For me, I had to go with 31 for my out-of-date PC. Now how do I add ROMs to my USB? I suppose I could add ROMs via SSH but that would require me to have 2 different devices. That's out. Here's a quicker way. You have your Batocera USB flashed. Grab a second USB. The larger the capacity, the less time you'll be spending transferring ROMS. On that 2nd USB, flash it with Linux Mint. Once it's flashed with Linux Mint, open that drive and you'll see a bunch of folders. Create a NEW folder and name it whatever would be easily recognizable by you. In that folder, put your ROMS that you are going to transfer. I suggest keeping things simple and keep everything grouped by systems/emulators. Once you have these ROMS saved in the folder that is easily recognizable to the 2nd drive just leave it plugged it there plugged in. Set it and forget it as Ron Popeil would say. Now if you aren't already familiar with how to get to your PC's BIOS menu, be sure you find out before moving on. When you're ready, restart your PC and perform the steps to get to BIOS menu. For my Dell, I pressed F2 once my PC turned back on. Once you're in the BIOS menu, go to the tab at the top labeled "BOOT". 2 settings need to be changed: "secure boot" needs to be disabled and "boot order #1" needs to be changed to "USB". * When you're ready to go back to Windows, just revert to what it was originally. Once you made sure you have the correct settings, go to the "Exit/Quit" tab at the far right and select "SAVE AND RESTART". If you did everything correctly, when your PC starts back up, it should be booting Batocera. Once Batocera is loaded and you're on the main screen, hit "F1" which should take you into Batocera's "file manager". In the column on the left, you SHOULD see your "Mint" drive listed under it's easily recognizable name. Open that up and you should see your ROMS in its easily recognized folder. "Select all" and either cut or copy. Then look again at the column on the left and there should be an actual "ROMS" folder. Clicking on that will open all the different emulator folder. Now since you were wise and grouped your ROMS according to systems, you can just open the appropriate folder and paste everything into each one. Once you are finished transferring, go to the settings at the top left and click on "close window". That will take you back to Batocera's main menu. Click on "start" to bring up the "settings". Go to "quit" at the very bottom and select "restart systen". When Batocera has reloaded, your ROMS are now listed under each emulator. And if you REALLY want to save yourself A LOT of time and headache searching for ROMS that actually work, head straight to "the vault" at vimm's lair. 100% success rate with EVERY SINGLE ROM. Tell em Large Marge sent cha!"

I'm so sorry but got so confused watching this video. When you said to enable the public web access because you didn't mention that you need the cable or not if the web access is NOT turned on. So now I have to check both ways, but also when you connected internet cable, where did you connect it to? You just said connect it to the batocera system. I'm confused because my batocera "system" is the 2TB HDD that I have batocera on. My PC is NOT my "batocera system" so I have no idea where to connect the cable, you cannot connect the internet cable to the batocera system because there is no cable outlet on my 2TB HDD that has batocera on it. - lastly, the part where you're talking about the batocera system I don't know if you have 2 PCs while you're doing the internet sharing. Am I not understanding something? I have 1 PC , with the roms on it, and I have my 2TB HDD with batocera on it. How do I transfer the ROMs to batocera???

I run a small portable hdd with a batocera test build on and have transferred games over that way too with Disk Genious and found sometimes they didnt show up either, when I checked it later with disk genious to see what was going on I found the games were not even on there. Sometimes I had to do it multiple times before it actually worked. A bug in the program maybe? Not sure.
I suggest also after you finished transferring files with disk genius eject the flash drive or whatever you are using with the program.
So go to tools tab, scroll down to safely eject disk and wait for it to close. This may stop any errors or corruption and could help that problem.

Quicker and easier is to transfer your roms to a portable drive from your main PC,then connect it to your PC Batocera build by usb port (presuming you are using diff PC's)
Press F1 on keyboard to bring up the inbuilt file manager, locate your attacherd portable drive and transfer roms across to the appropriate rom folders.
After closing window dont forget to update gameslists so it rescans your system for added roms.

The question is i want to copy share ROM files between these two setup. But both of them are identified as \\batocera on the network, hence only one can be active any one time. Is there a way to rename the batocera id on the network to say \\batocera01 ?

    • @fonzitheman

Try one of these two methods. 1. Pull it out and try to see if Windows will see it and allow you to copy your games from there. 2. Create another Batocera image using a thumb drive. Once that has successfully installed, put your first Batocera drive into the new the Batocera system and see if it can read the partition where your games are stored. If it can, copy them to a third drive.

The wiki does state what file extensions for systems are acceptable for Batocera. And if you look inside the Genesis rom folder in your share partition there is a txt doc which also has this information.
Incase you missed it, extensions for Genesis can be: bin, gen, md, sg,smd and those can be zipped to zip or 7z extensions.

Both have to share the same wifi and same GHz as well. Make sure you turn on that setting within Batocera as mentioned in the video. Or plug an ethernet cable between both systems for faster access. Sometimes too if you close out Windows Explorer and try again, it works.
