  • In the midst of a big losing streak during the 2000 NFL season, Buffalo Bills head coach Wade Phillips said that even though his team had a worse record than they did in 1999, that they were a better football team, and all of the stats indicated this. There was just one small problem with Wade Phillips' statement

    In 93 when he was the Broncos head coach my uncle's company had Wade as their spokesperson. My brother and I got to have dinner with him. He even took a photo and signed them later for us. The man not only loves football, but loves to talk about football. At the time my brother and I were playing HS football. And in the middle of dinner he gave us pointers and talked about defensive tricks. My aunt and uncle just sat there as my brother and I listened to every word Wade had to share. Great guy.

    I’d say his moment in 1994 when he was HC of Denver when he said he would rather lose his way than be like the Raiders was worse. Especially because a couple of days after he said that, the Raiders went into Denver and won 48-16 which was their biggest win ever in Denver until 2010.

    That team was capable of beating themselves and did they ever! They were plain awful after November. They somehow managed not to self destruct until the last five games of the 2000 season. The injury situation was a disaster!

      A tradition Wade would carry into Dallas. My favorite team of his was the 2008 cowboys, who were 9-5 entering the final two weeks of the season, was beat bloody by the Ravens in the last game ever at Texas stadium and then was stomped like an egg in a win or go home game with the Eagles. It put a happy smile on my face.

      He had no choice, Ralph Wilson, Jr., had made up his mind, had he refused, he'd have fired him for insubordination, and, started him, anyway, the worst part was that, STs, coach, Bruce DeHaven, (who didn't even see the play), was scapegoated, Rob Johnson was being paid more money, and, was their QB of the future, either, they paid him to play in the, Biggest Games, or, they paid him to do absolutely nothing, they wouldn't have beaten the Jaguars, anyway, Dan Marino got a, Karmic, beatdown after he closed, The, Kingdome, they were planning, a sendoff, and, celebration, which he ruined by winning.

    I blame absolutely none of this on Wade Philips. He was on the hot seat because of the Music City Miracle, a game in which he had been forced by ownership to start their major acquisition Rob Johnson and his horrible play. Then they did it again the next year.

    • @matthewdaley746
      @matthewdaley746 16 дней назад +1

      Ownership would proceed to scapegoat, STs, coach, Bruce DeHaven, because, apparently, a pound of flesh was mandatory, things were, already, in a precarious position when Andre Reed, single-handedly, blew the Playoff Game against the Dolphins the year before with his immaturity, things like that were, probably, why it took him, so, long to get into the, HOF, simple as that.
