  • Because of the derailment a few days ago the MTA has been trying to restore service , move the derailed trains and fix up any damages
One step is to transfer the damaged R62a’s to 207st yard so they can be inspected and repaired
It’s quite uncommon to see a move like this

We know that subway buffs and railroad buffs are not really bad people at all, as are the vandals and the other transit offenders, let alone the fare evaders. This railfan really sacrificed himself in that cold weather just to get a sure shot at that open station. New York City Transit cannot afford to lose another railcar that this juncture.

I am sorry to mention in print that the bonnet was not damaged at all, except the right pantograph gate was bent. The top above the transverse was scraped against the tunnel ceiling. Like you, I hope that the main body shop has a spare part to replace the damaged top, or the whole top as in the car roof.

@@SunnyH-wf5itThe purchase of new rolling stock for the A-Division this year would be easier said than done. The B-Division has at least 2 trains of R-211T with articulates at for easier passages between cars. I hope that if such train works well on the B-Division, it would work well on the A-Division in a way that New York City Transit and Metropolitan Transportation would not have to constantly buy new railcars. The department that is responsible for train operations and crews is called the [New York City Transit] Department of Subways, although not all the lines are wholly underground, like subway level. As a managing agency, New York City Transit is under the ownership of Metropolitan Transportation Authority since 1996. Thank you for typing to me.

2210-2206 didn’t suffer majorly, 2415 has zipties over the chainguards, along with the possible loss of a coupler on one of the ends and 2414-11 idk about
2176-80 (specifically 2176) was damaged the most for sure, and that car probably won’t be back anytime soon. Maybe 2177-80 might do something similar where a single car is turned into an A-car to complete 5-cars, like 1431-34 + 38

A (1) local train was taken OOS due to vandalism. (1) trains had to run express. At 96th Street-7th Avenue, there’s a switch that allows these express (1) trains to run via its normal route. The OOS (1) happened to meet with the express (1) and they collided (slow speeds)

Seems like they gave each car, except 2415, new trucks, given how clean they all looked. Maybe ran slowly to avoid any possible chance of another derailment since the cars were slightly damaged and weren't seated 100%?

Delete. As MTA scrapped R62A #1909 . Due to structural damage in the 1990. I would scrapped structural damage R62A . Like #2171 - #2175 what R62A is damage. Not point fixing damage R62A derailment as of yet R262 to replace R62A not award yet. Delete. The structural damage R62A should be scrapped

    • @1575murray

It's possible that a couple of the cars involved in this incident may not be worth repairing due to their age. The TA might be able to replace them with single cars from the rest of the R62A fleet to keep the rest of the five car set intact and operational. These cars have had a good service record once the initial issues were solved with only 1909 being scrapped due to a wreck at Hunts Point Ave. in the 1990s. At least they can put the rear five cars of each train together to make one good train out of the two wrecked ones.

The R268/As has not been rewarded ether. The 3 6 S lines is definitely stuck with the R62as and the R62S until they find a builder to build the R262/As for the A devisin iRT lines and the R268/As open and close ways to be rewarded for the B devisins for the iND and the BMT lines.
