    They made a midrange cymbal sound, well, midrange.

      My thought is the same. I bought a set of PST5 cymbals for general bar gig use, and I think they sound better than these do. These look great, but I just don't like the sound of them.

    This is a very good review of the cymbals. It is very important to hear and understand when he states the purpose of the color and what it does to the cymbal. I have a set that I have used since 2017 and the they work best when I am in a venue where volume should be low and overtones at a minimum. This is exactly the forte of these cymbals. I play "into them" and not have to be concerned about volume, projection, or sustain. Yet, I do not loose the integrity of the "PAISTE" sound! I must admit that I have had mine for (4) years and no color has chipped or wore off and they yet look new and I have not polished them one time. These are excellent substitutes when I need the sound of my Paiste 2002's but I am not able to use them because of their volume in the venue.

    Nice review! In my opinion, these are great cymbals for the price. When mixed in with other instruments, they might sound even better, which is how I usually judge cymbals. I never played any 900s myself, so I can't say from experience.

    Some of the 1st Users were Bozzio and Steve Jordan on David Letterman.
    If I'm not mistaken, Bozzio had a hand in the Development of the Original Visions.
    Over a Decade before Carey or Jordison.

    Tony Williams used a pair of colorsound 14" hihats (in red!) for the track Rise on the Public Image lp 'Album' from 1985 ...I did a session with the producer Bill Laswell in 1999 and got to use the same hihats as it was the same tech on the session...listen to the lp mix (not the Bob clearmountain single mix) and they are hugely prominent. I hope these are the same spec as the original versions as they sound fantastic for recording!

    Lovely review. Didn't notice these cymbals being especially heavy per the video. But, they do sound pleasing to the ears and would make a nice setup or an addition to one's own setup of non-colored cymbals.

    I think that they are the best version of the 900's the color coat makes them better sounding. I have one 1985 16 crash vision..i think Its the First version of the color thing. Terry bozio use tô endorse them. Love the sound of It and the sound engineers always want me to bring them along in every recording session.
    Great Review guys.

    Actually, for the price the set costs you'd be pretty greatful to have them if that's the budget you had and wanted something that looks like a set and isn't hand me downs or cracked discounted used cymbals.
    Well done Paiste for the entry level offer.

  • @cmswrD

    Personally, I find the 900 series in general to be a bit too harsh for my taste, but I like the hi-hats in this video, and the Sound Edge hi-hats are great as well

  • @glennrochemusic
    @glennrochemusic 3 года назад +1

    Keep up the evaluations! One could find something redeemable in these blue things in a live band context but Not sure any Paiste have strong bells. Not quite "able to cut through anything". Lol. Only if frisbee'd through a cactus. 🌵
    You have been very diplomatic in the product appraisal. I like the look and Copeland's Police touring kit but I'll have to watch a video again to see if they work. Then again he's probably got Paiste Line signatures painted blue, not 900s which sound like 1985 404s. I had some. Good to begin on and get started gigging!

    • @ianisaacs2340
      @ianisaacs2340 3 года назад +1

      Have you ever played Paiste 602’s or 2002’s? If those don’t provide a strong bell I don’t have a shittin clue what does??

    • @glennrochemusic
      @glennrochemusic 3 года назад

      @@ianisaacs2340 Hi Ian. I really consider this 900 set to ge good value for the price. I did have a great 602 crash once! but sold it with first kit. 2002s are wierd mix of lows and chime and they need hitting too hard to get shimmer and wash and yet the rides give too much wash and no ping, more like a tink! Lol.
      I like cymbals though, see my RUclips videos and let me know which cymbal you think didn't work as imagined for context and sound efficiency at all volumes. Here's one up close for fun: Doubleshot, Rock Me Baby. Contrasted by: Cos We Ended As Lovers. Louder original band PAWN Or more recent INXS Show gig over my left shoulder. "Close your eyes and" pick the brand!

      @@glennrochemusic What’s your opinion on Zildjian As?

    • @glennrochemusic
      @glennrochemusic 3 года назад

      @@kiwiangeldust6912 hi mate. I think A's are ok for all round stuff but Zildjian and Sabian have had to make a cymbal that takes abuse and that sacrifices musicality. You have to select the particular weight for the music you make as mediums and heavys are slow and dull unless struck hard and then you're too loud for most gigs. That's why Vinnie was so instrumental in developing A Customs. Thinner with more shimmer. Please see my videos to hear perfect cymbals for every band I play with.

    Further to my earlier post. T I think a video that does a sound Comparison between the same manufacturers different ranges would be very useful. I don't believe that anyone should judge a cymbal range by the price tag. Just cos one cymbal is hundreds of £ more expensive than another doesn't automatically say it sounds 'better'. It really does depend on the ears. But

    These videos always bring out the internet elitists who need the world to know that they JUST CAN'T play with anything short of hand-made B20 Turkish cymbals. My black CS 900s get compliments all the time, including from other drummers. Nobody even says "they're pretty good for intermediate cymbals," much less calling them "horrible." Honestly, if you're offended by the sound of ANY cymbal, you're probably just a miserable person. They're everywhere online, but in the real world, you just don't find many of them. Hmmm...
