i use contact and motion sensors in a few rooms. Love having the redundancy, in case a door is left open. for your shower automation, toss in a humidity sensor. my lights turn off when theres no motion in the bathroom, but only if the humidity is under 80% (small shower, sensor is close to the showerhead so it runs up to 80% in just a minute or two). cool video, though. i like the lighting ideas. when our daughter was born, i automated everything i could in her room and have some fun stuff. motion in her room after 8pm turns off her overhead lights, turns on the lamp, the bed LEDs and a virtual switch called Nap Time, which disabled the motion automations in her room, her closet and changes the behavior of the lights in the hall, for example.
For the shower issue, why not just use a humidity sensor? if you are showering humidity will be high and the light stays on. Once it drops the light (and possibly fdan) turn off
although this is true, the motion sensor is rated for 2 years of use i believe. i use another motion sensor more heavily than the laundry room for years now and haven't had to replace the battery once
Red is associated with anger, warning, danger. Blue is associated with calming and relaxation. :) hence why a stop sign is red and not blue. Blue wouldn’t have the same effect as a warning.
Why do you combine a door sensor with a motion sensor, when the motion sensor would be enough to turn on the lights? I have a motion sensor in my bathroom and whenever I walk in the lights turn on. I don't see the need for an additional door sensor.
Great question! I found the contact sensor to respond faster than using a motion sensor for when I open the door and walk in, but motion sensor is used for auto turning off the light cause sometimes i dont close the door when leaving

Hey Adam. Just a question. In your bathroom, instead of using the Aqara cube, why don’t you use the Aqara button instead? Ps. Congratulations on the little one. My daughter is now 3 months old 😅.
Hello, great question! The aqara mini switch doesn't work with Alexa so i'm unable to use a button press to toggle the automation, that would be cool though! and thanks so much! congratulations to you too my friend! :)
I’m all about automation and I have a fairly smart home. But homie that setup with the cube in the bathroom is ridiculous. Just use the damn switch to cut the light off and on in the bathroom. Some times our smart home way of solving issues is the very definition of finding a problem to fix that has a perfectly good solution already in place.
Makes me laugh, you automate the bathroom lights and then put a little cube to disable the automation. Why not get rid of the automation in there and use a conventional light switch, life would be so much easier.
When my daughter was younger, I had all sorts of HomeKit automations that made life a lot easier for my wife and I. From bottle warmers to nap time scenes and a ton of contact and motion sensors everywhere! Good stuff Adam! Congratulations again on the baby!
Nice video, these are cool ideas. Question for you, how’s the battery life on the Aqara sensors and mini switch? Specifically the mini switch. I’m sick of the Smartthings buttons because they burns through CR2450 batteries in less than 2 weeks. I picked up some of the Aqara buttons last week , so far so good but I’m curious how do they hold up long-term from a battery life perspective?
I had the shower problem as well. To fix it just added an extra motion sensor on top of the shower pointing down. Then make a rule that both bathroom motion sensors must have no movement in 5 minutes before switching off. Thanks for the video!
Wow like the pace. How do you like the the Phillips down lights? Thinking of adding a few in my kitchen vs the older style cans with bulbs I have in other areas with Phillips br30 bulbs. Just a pain to install.
Glad you enjoyed the video :) the philips hue downlights are great. they took maybe 5 mins a piece to install and i've used them for about 3 years now and they work great! plus HomeKit support is 🔥
@@AdamsTechLife Which ones do you have? I was just at Home Depot they have the easy connect ones plus different sizes etc. Seems to be more choices then before.

Thanks for that info and the many ideas, those are amazing!!
My wife breaks all my rules. Never fails.
🤣🤣🤣
My kids too
Love your Ideas
GOOD
Glad you like them!

i dont have a humidity sensor but my concern is the speed of humidity detection changes. the cube is nearly instant.
Have you thought of trying out any of the presence sensors?
I've tried out and reviewed the aqara presence sensor on my channel :)
The fact he has a full smart home but he still uses an old iPhone
❤️
First one: it works, but you consume batteries. More effective solution is a motion-sensing fixture or switch.
although this is true, the motion sensor is rated for 2 years of use i believe. i use another motion sensor more heavily than the laundry room for years now and haven't had to replace the battery once
at first i was like, whoa the baby is green
😂
Awesome videos sorry I’m sooo late
❤️
You should change the lightship behind your bed to red. Blue light tells your brain to wake up

Why do you even need a contact sensor in the laundry room if there's a motion sensor ?
The video explains why :) contact sensor is faster to respond if door is closed, motion sensor faster to respond if door already open but light off

Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
@AdamsTechLife also totally thought you were gonna say taking a shit not taking a shower :)
The number of times my wife keeps turning the smart lights on/off at the wall, a right pain!
LOL, I've experienced that many times too

Sometimes I would forget to turn off the light so with the automation enabled, it auto turns off. Life is easy when everything is automatic ;)

That’s awesome!! Can’t wait to add more as she grows up. Thanks again ☺️

Battery life on the aqara button and sensors are amazing! I've used mine for years and multiple times a day, near 100% battery life on each of them

That's a good idea as well! Glad I could help :)
I use Tapo and I just amended my sensor to ten mins in the bath. Couldn’t you extended the duration rather than buying a second one ?
The ikea motion sensors are a good fit. They are ip44.
