Great informative video, however one correction is needed. The Level lock does have a version, or actually it’s been upgraded and it only has one version now(I have both). The new version IS Home key compatible. You have the option of geo fencing it so that it will automatically unlock the door when you’re returning from outside the geo fenced area, and/or have it unlock by placing your phone or Apple Watch against it.
I switched completely to HomeKit devices because of the Matter support. While this means I have a bit less control over automations and devices compared to before, it really simplifies my overall home automation setup
I am interested in turning my apartment "smart", my girlfriend and I are moving soon and plan to be there for a few years at least. Our network is managed by our landlord, 500/500 speed with no accessible router in unit (completely managed community wifi). Will this cause any problems?
When I was renting I asked my ISP for the modem only and used my own mesh router system. Also, if you already have the combo unit you can ask your ISP to turn off the router portion, or ask how to do it yourself, so it doesn’t cause any interference with your own router(s).
@@AdamsTechLife Your talking about the U100. You do not have to replace the outside bolt when using the U200. Just like August lock & switch bot lock, it fits to the interior side of the lock so there is no need to get new keys. But unlike those locks, the U200 does support Apple home key.

That's great news to hear, thanks for the info!
Man I thought I was the only one in the world still having an iPhone SE but you do wow we’re friends now, I’m subbing
❤️
Thanks for including rental options!
Of course ❤️
I plan on adding the Aqara U200 smart lock, as its matter compatible, HomeKit, and homekey compatible and is RETRO FIT,
great choice!
Nice video Adam. You have some good recommendations for renters.

Anyone that watches Home Improvement has my like and respect!!! 🫡

simple is key!

it's very possible, especially if you want to use matter devices, which require ipv6 to be enabled.
Great video, Adam. I live in an apartment, so I agree with a lot of your ideas. Thank you!
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching! 😊
If you want your own router, how do you do it if your isp device is a combo router/ modem?

yep, he nailed it above! also, getting just a router and not router/modem combo tends to cost less monthly too
You can Connect eeros with any Router/modem that has a lan port. They make their own Network and the Internet is provided to it by your ISP devices.
I replaced all the light switches and thermostat to my apartment. I still have the original. I will change it back when I move out.
that's great!
Does matter require wi-fi
for initial setup, yes but can work offline when internet is down
Why not eero 7 with Wi-Fi 7?
Barely any devices support WiFi 7, so a bit overkill IMO
Good stuff, thanks!
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching! 😊
I regret getting Nano-Leaf lights. They will fail to be found after a power cycle, even with power loss recovery turned on. They are not good options.
I'm personally not a fan of nanoleaf either...super unreliable from my experience
The Aqara U200 smart lock has apple homekey
it's technically a retrofit lock that supports homekey, but it replaces the outside deadbolt, which may not be allowed by a landlord

Awesome videos sorry I’m sooo late
Thanks for watching! 😊 ❤️
Xiaomi is also a serious contender when it comes to smart home devices
haven't used any of their stuff tbh
@@AdamsTechLife works perfectly well and has lots of devices that work with Google
