    how to plan your week:
    1. set a date for weekly planning (preferably during the weekend & somewhere with no distractions)
    2. select a planning tool
    3. mind dump
    4. review previous week. journal: how could i do things differently? how did i do? any necessary follow up tasks?
    5. set weekly GOALS
    6. set recurring time blocks for sharpening the saw (PIES - physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual)
    7. plan "big rocks" - most important tasks of life (important tasks - aligned with values/big goals)
    8. fill in the gaps (low urgency, but important tasks)
    9. adjust plan daily (try to avoid rescheduling PIES and BIG ROCKS)

Everyone who wants some sort of success need to do this. I set up my first week yesterday, of all the things i have as a routine. And it was little time to do something else. Of course, work is one of the big rocks. But there was little time for other big rocks in my schedule other than reading books. I need to find some big things to do to become financially free. And this helps me by seeing my week on paper, and now i can plan accordingly, and remove things i dont need to work on. It makes what to do clearer.
Dont underestimate the power of weekly planning. I regret that it took me so long to start this.

I have a terrible memory and I was feeling the hours and days slipping by. Ever since I made the jump to always carry around a notepad (back left pocket or chest pocket) and pen (sturdy one in my front left pocket) I've become extremely productive and capitalizing on the good ideas I have that I would've otherwise forgotten.
It also works as an impromptu business card, way to give out a phone number, or record something "note-worthy". I'm refining those habits constantly and with this video I found my head nodding "yes" the entire time.
    Excellent and sagely advice.

I'm also far less stressed about getting things done because I know that I have time dedicated to doing them. Plus it keeps me exercising everyday, doing devotions consistently, and generally feeling less "blown about".

To those of you who, like me, feel overwhelmed by all the things you want/need to do but feel like you don't have the time because of your underlying perfectionism issues, listen up:
This is a trial and error process. You can't learn just by planning and being overwhelmed and then just not do it. Plan what you think you should do for the week, even if it isn't perfect. Stick to the plan, but don't worry about sticking to it perfectly. At the end of the week, when planning your upcoming week, reflect to find what works, what doesn't, and most importantly, FEEL PROUD that you've gotten better at planning your life and all your accomplishments even if it is by only 1%. Now that you have more experience under your belt, make the changes you think are necessary to your plan and execute again.
TAKE ACTION. I know it's overwhelming when you want everything to be perfectly planned out so it's easier to not do anything BUT taking action with an imperfect plan is way better than not taking action with an overwhelmingly perfect plan.

Rocky Thomas It's an amazing system that "helps you track your past, organize your present and plan your future" :) I've been using it for a few months now and I love it! You can find the official video easily on RUclips and you can also find a lot of online communities such as "Bullet Journal Junkies" on Facebook! I highly recommend checking it out :)
Oh, and btw, the system is very flexible. You can adapt it to suit your needs. There are a bunch of videos on RUclips of people showing how they setup their BJ.

My favourite AoM video, I still watch it sometimes even though I know it by heart.
It represents the best of AoM and the work of Brett and Kate, most importantly because it shows something that you will actually put into action

I have an irregular work schedule working retail management but I've still be able to work around it. My days off also vary but it can be done! I work 40hrs, take a college course which I commute to and try to be a good husband and father for my wife and 3 kids. I print out my work schedule and know what days I'll be able to exercise on and what things I can accomplish during the day before work or if I get off early as well as how to utilize my off days to the fullest. Love the reminder to schedule self improvement things too like learning a new skill of prayer/meditation. Keep up the great work!

When I was young man, and really, really manly. I was in the military and they planned my weeks for me. If I wasn't out doing 10-mile marches with 40-pound backpacks, or I was on the ranges shooting off 10,000 rounds a day. Later in my career, my days were more hectic working on C-130 Hercules transport repairing them as need as I did with Boeing 707-720C transports.

I learnt to do the weekly scheduling through a company I used to work for and it has helped me out a lot! Everything is generally the same as you mentioned in this except the part you spoke of with the mind dump! I've done the mind dump subconsciously but the moment you mentioned is when I realized I've actually done it a couple of times when feeling stressed and overwhelmed. This video was super helpful! Thank you so much. ( No I'm not a man ).

Planning means you are utilising the most important aspect of life -- TIME !!

  • @Schindlabua
    @Schindlabua 9 лет назад +7

I want to go out with friends because I feel like it, not because I planned it.
I want to read books beause I like reading books, not because I feel like I have to.
These decisions are made on an hourly basis, and not... hey, weather is nice today, lets go out and do some photography!
I'm all about having a solid schedule so you don't feel stressed out or like you've got nothing to do, and there are definitely things you need to do on a weekly basis, but one sure can overdo it. I want to have the freedom to choose what I want to do with my time and not think in boxes that I've artificially set up for myself - life is also more exciting that way.
Other than that, you've mentioned some good tips for not being a lazy bastard :P
