One thing I appreciate about this version is that Christian Bale plays 3 versions of Bruce Wayne. He plays the "billionaire playboy", a front to throw off anyone from thinking he could possibly be batman. He plays the beast embodiment of his rage as batman. Then he plays the real person who is just trying to find his way.

Rachel is not technically his neighbor, she's the daughter of a maid who has worked in Wayne Manor, briefly seen at the beginning of the film. Rachel's character was created for this franchise, she doesn't appear in any comics. And btw to avoid confusion, Katie Holmes didn't return for the next film so Nolan had to recast her, so don't be surprised when you see Maggie Gyllenhaal being called Rachel in the next film.

2 very good Bale movie recommendations in this here thread. Equilibrium is extremely underrated, I think mostly because of the timing of release and it's purposeful nods towards the style of The Matrix, but sadly too many cheesy Matrix-y style clones came out which caused many to roll their eyes and ignore them en masse.
Equilibrium atually has very deep meaningful subject matter disguised inside a flashy action movie.

Also if you haven’t played the original Arkham games from the 2010’s I would definitely recommend those as well. Not super long main story lines unless you are a completionist, but amazing stories with A+ voice acting.

From a narrative, character, dialogue, and acting standpoint I do agree with others that The Dark Knight is the better movie but Begins has the much better atmosphere and aesthetic. The narrows really adds to the overall aesthetic even with the more grounded look and feel of Gotham something Nolan just prefers a more grounded feel in his movies which for me kind of hurts these films as they tried to be too grounded.
But you can also see elements of the more gothic art deco Gotham from the comic's, animated series, and Tim Burtons movies such as the overhead Trains connecting to Wayne Tower which are very retro art deco looking. I myself prefer the Burton depiction of Gotham along with the Animated Series and of course the Arkham games. The weakest Gotham's are by far the two sequels to this film but the films themselves are good.
Without going into plot spoilers The Dark Knight was filmed in Chicago and you'll be able to tell right away that it just doesn't feel like Gotham lacks that gothic aesthetic and simply just comes across as Batman but in Chicago. But besides the aesthetic The Dark Knight is the better movie I just wish they put more effort into the city same goes with Dark Knight Rises which is filmed a good amount in Pittsburgh so each film the city changed massively.
I'm very mixed on the Batman voice. it's become a meme at this point with people doing these super funny Batman Bale Batman voices. Kevin Conroy who plays Batman since 1991 in the cartoons and video games is pretty much the best example of a perfect Batman voice. He has a voice for Bruce Wayne and then a voice for Batman without going too far into the whole over the top sound. I do think the voice is the best in this film though compared to the others but that's just me.
Bruce's Origin story in this film is pretty close to that of the Batman: Year One comic by Frank Miller. In Frank Millers ruin this is where he learnt to fight coming back to Gotham as a vigilante who then developed over time into The Batman like we see in this film. This was something Frank Miller added to the Batman canon before this Bruce never left Gotham city to train and as you can see from this movie it caught on with other mediums including The Animated Serie's and the Arkham games.
In the Batman Earth-One comic's Bruce was trained by Alfred instead who was a former Royal Marine in this universe. Earth-0 or Earth Prime is the main DC comic universe (The New 52) so Earth-One is it's own thing, Earth Prime/Earth-0 Batman leaves Gotham to train. There's also Earth-2 which is actually the original take on the character from 1939 all the way to the 1950s until DC introduced Earth-1 which brought in the silver age version of hero's this becoming the main DC universe featuring characters like Barry Allen Flash and Hal Jordon Green Lantern.
But the Golden Age hero's lived on in Earth-2 with this Batman actually using a gun in his introduction. But yeah almost all of Batman films are based on the mainline DC Batman so no killing or using firearms. Also Earth-1 is not Earth-One the universe I mentioned before. Earth-1 became Prime Earth with Crisis on Infinite Earths when DC pretty much destroyed their multiverse and brought everyone over into a single Earth. The multverse was later recreated with New 52, 52 universes with Earth-One being one of these and Earth-0 or Prime Earth being the main DC universe. Earth-2 is still around along with a bunch of other cool universes. All the movies and games as well take place in their own universes just like the Marvel universes.
    Characters:
Scarecrow is a really cool character first appearing in World's Finest Comics #3 (Autumn 1941) two years after Batman introduction. I really like this rendition of the character massive Cillian Murphy fan but I just like how his calmness adds to the creeper factor. John Noble as Scarecrow in Arkham Knight was amazing
Ra's al Ghul first appeared in Batman #232 (June 1971) a really cool character but within this Trilogy Nolan made him alot more grounded to suit his more grounded universe. In the comic's he's between 400 and 700 Years Old kept alive by the Lazarus pit which possess longevity, rejuvenation and youth restoration abilities. He can be kill like any human but throw him back into the Pit and he'll come out like nothing happened. I liked this take but I still prefer the more supernatural stuff in my DC.
Carmine Falcone is a really cool character first showing up in Batman #405 (1987). The character plays a big part in The Long Halloween by Frank Miller and usually only appears in early Batman stories set in around Year one to Year Two of Bruce becoming Batman. For example The Long Halloween is set on Bruce's second year as the caped Crusader while in Begins we get to see Bruce become Batman for the first time depicting his early years.
Lucius Fox first showed up in Batman #307 (January 1979) and is pretty much Bruce Wayne's business manager who of course also supports the Batman. He also creates the high-tech tools and vehicles for Batman which is also showcased in Arkham Knight pretty well. Lucius Fox in Arkham Knight played by Dave Fennoy is really good.
Captain/Commissioner Gordon was introduced in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939) as the first ever Batman supporting character. He actually appeared in all the past Batman movies/shows you watched from my understanding. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon in Nolan's films is more closer to his comic counterpart in both his relation with Batman but also his appearance. Jonathan Banks played a really good Gordon in Arkham Knight while Bryan Cranston played a great Gordon in the animated Batman Year One film.
Victor Zsasz made his appearance in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 (June 1992) a sadomasochistic and psychopathic serial killer who carves a tally mark onto himself for each of his victims. He's saving a special spot for The Batman no idea where though. He's an interesting character but it was very much a small role in this film just shows up as a bold prisoner.
Barbara Gordon was introduced in World's Finest #53 (1951) and is the wife of Commissioner Gordon sharing the name with her Daughter Barbara Gordon who was Batgirl in the comics, games, and animation shows.
These are some of the few key characters featured in this film but there's a couple of other side characters many created for the film and others who are small side characters in the comics. Overall I really like this film but I can see you enjoying The Dark Knight alot more. I myself prefer Gotham to look more gothic and art deco one of those people who want Blimps to be featured in a live action Batman film like we see in the other media but i know alot of people like the grounded look while others prefer Tim Burton more stylized Gotham.
Edit: Yes I had this wrote out in a word document before the video aired lol Put more effort into these tbh than my college essay's.

One of the best things in this movie is the moment batman calls for the bats for backup. Which is also surprisingly little heartwarming too, when you realise that the bats swarm the building thinking one of their own is actually in trouble. (Which might not be true at all and is merely a simple call-sign but that's what I like to imagine.)

So this film is slightly more accurate to Batman's origin story than something like Gorham. Gotham focuses more on Bruce's teenage years a time period that has been explored in media like Batman Earth One and the Animated Series but Bruce himself never became a crime fighter until his mid 20s once be returned to Gotham after a few years exploring the world. Batman Year One covers his first year as Batman going for a more grounded feel focusing on crime bosses. Then we have The Long Halloween set in his 2nd year highlighting Bruce having to learn to become a detective. The crime families are in conflict with Gothams meta humans and super villians this being the changing of the guard in a way Gotham moving from gang families to super villians and Batman stepping up to stop them. Characters like Mister Freeze were introduced around this time when Bruce was in his mid 20s instead of his teens like we see in Gotham. Each Batman media kind of becomes it's own thing and will have small to large changes from the comics.

Sounds like a few more movies to put on a watch list
    American Psycho
Taken, is a good one too with Liam Neeson (Ra's Al Ghul)
A good reaction can be done without much words, and it shows how much you like the movie.

I've watched a lot of reaction channels, this was my first time seeing yours. I love it. Your reactions are so genuine and it's great to see some one who knows the characters freaking out over the actors who play them and being giddy at all the little emotional bits. If you haven't already seen it please consider Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, it's very different and stylish.

Good to see you getting into one of best trilogies and yes, Christain Bale did do the AMerican Psycho film. He was intense in that odd, dark wild film. Not my idea of fun or even sane story, but some people can explain the metaphors in the actions and situations in it better than I can.

'The original Batman'... Batman goes back to the 40s on the big screen. Originally with movie serials in the 40s, up through the campy 1966 'Batman' movie that led into the 60s TV series, and the Tim Burton and Joel Shumacher movies in the 80s and 90s. I would highly recommend watching the two Tim Burton movies as they kicked off the early 90s super hero boom, and are a really interesting take on the character. The 1966 Batman is worth a watch as the reminder that the character wasn't ALWAYS grimdark and serious. The Joel Shumacher movies weren't... great, but they're interesting. They're basically what you get if you combine Batman 1966 and Batman 1989.

The original Batman movie was with Michael Keaton in 1989 I believe. They made four of them. Keaton played in the second, Val Kilmer played batman in the third one and George Clooney played him in the fourth. That one wasn't very good IMO. Those movies were based on the TV show in the 1960's staring Adam West. If you want to compare Jokers watch the Michael Keaton Batman 1989 as well. Jack Nicholson played the Joker. Looking forward to your next Batman reaction.

This is a great trilogy too! Christian Bale did a great job protraying the darkness of Batman and his character development of the films is great too. And yes he also was in American Psycho as well. I always love the music in this series. Hans Zimmer is just unbeatable with his music. That scene when he fully stands up in the batcave is I think when we first hear the "Batman theme" for the first time and I get chills every time.
Also a couple other Christian Bale movies that are really good are Equilibrium and The Prestige. Highly recommend both of those at some point.

I was born before this movie, But when I started growing up, I watched Christian Bale in his best preformance which was great because he was unique as Batman in his own way along looking fantastic in the suit, The Tumbler was a cool unique Batmobile, and that Joker tease was amazing, Great reaction Centane.

I was so happy when this movie came out. It finally made Batman darker. I grew up watching the Adam West Batman. Michael Keaton was good at the time but they still weren't quite right for my taste. I like these films, but when Ben Affleck became Batman, I felt he was the correct version. The body type, the look. But at least during the Nolan trilogy it was the best Joker of all time. I'm a firm believer that all the Batmen have their place since DC does have a multiverse and each one is a separate universe. They all exist and matter.

The hero who famously became a hero because of the trauma of being a child who saw his parents murdered in front of him. Yeah, I got to hear several children bawl their eyes out.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I REALLY enjoy the way you don't talk over the movie like so many other reactors. Some I've stopped watching because they just talk too much. Commenting and reacting is fine, but the constant drowning out the movie isn't fun. I'm psyched you're finally watching this series. Nolan's trilogy is unsurpassed. I can't wait until you do "The Dark Knight." Great job!!! :)
