This was a particularly pleasant episode. Hugo has spent many years perfecting his formal style and it's nice to see him now become, to turn a phrase, comfortable with comfort. It's lovely to see him in a more casual, laid back outfit whilst remaining elegant.

This episode really connects with me. I don’t have many situations where a suit fits my situation. Cashmere, sneakers, and watches (a personal love) are much more suited to my work dress and lifestyle. Absolutely love the channel Hugo!

I absolutely loved this episode, Hugo! I was flirting with the idea of waistcoats and knits lately and after seeing yours, I grabbed one that I never wore but was going to sell. I cut the tags and I'm loving it...Also, great to hear that you're both on the tweed and vintage watch train! Hugo, you told us about the “Peaky Blinders” flat cap this year, so I got four of them. I wore a dark cashmere cap with my Harris Tweed 3 piece light gray suit (thrifted) to a function, taking it off and holding it as I entered the room, placing it in my lap during the ceremony. I was complimented by many afterward, that I looked so well put together. Thanks to you, my friend!

Sartorial Talks continues to be more and more compelling every episode. I have to set aside everything to listen to the details both Hugo and your wife discuss.
Being English, I have always loved tweed. I must admit I prefer Donegal for the flecks of colour, I purchase a suit from Walker Slater following Sonya's recommendation.
Like you Hugo, I am looking to enter the watch world, and I feel I do not know enough to make a good choice when it comes to vintage. Instead I am looking for new, with some style

    • @SARTORIALTALKS

I could not agree more on the size of watch dials and your idea of elegance in that area. I like to wear a watch in the proper location, just above the wristbone, and I prefer that it is able to slip discreetly under my sleeve when I am wearing a suit. I have a vintage watch similar to yours. It was my grandfather's, a "trench watch" at 37 mm from the WW2 era.

Your tweed Hugo...WILL...survive you because of the way you take care of things...how it is made...and that it is a tweed...!!!
My oldest garments (over 100 years in service) are traditional brain-tanned leathers and hand-oven wools like tweed. These items wear like "soft armor" and can be passed down generationally when truly bespoke in nature...and moderately taken care of...
You also helped me (thank you!) to give a name for my own style (comparatively to your own beautiful one!)...I AM...pure "Rustic Class" in nature when it comes to my wardrobe, which, when done well, and bespoke (as it should be) most find it to be nothing but "classy."
"Rustic Class" covers everything on the spectrum from well-groomed Western CowGirl/Boy to what my Native American Ancestors wore. Taking the finer skills of the sartorial creator and combining them with traditional materials like sewing with real sinew, silk, flax, threads...brain-tanned leathers...really well made hand-woven wool fabrics (like tweed)...the related materials, will provide anyone with a level of style and class on parr (but very different) with what is found in most cities in my experience...
Thank you once more for not only a wonderful presentation in this video discussion but educational as well.
    Blessings,
    j

And welcome into the world of Horology. I congratulate you on your fine piece. That is a very elegant watch despite having all those complications.
You and your wife really helped me. Two years ago I started wearing ties, and discovered that is doesn’t have to be a formal thing, it can be an expression of joy. And it brings joy to other people as well.
This year I bought myself a white very classic waistcoat, and I thought it would make me feel like a gentleman, but as a bonus it made me feel like a knight

What a great video. the jacket was very nice. But wow! Your vintage watch is beautiful, the moon phase has so much character. Beautifully designed. I agree with you about watch sizes. I like a 38mm on my wrist best. I bought my first automatic watch last year and it's a 40mm Frederique Constant . It's designed with a slim case and small neat lugs so it looks quite like a 38mm. Even though it's new the size gives it a vintage feel.

    • @SARTORIALTALKS
      @SARTORIALTALKS  2 года назад +1

I agree Michael, I actually discovered recently that the vintage watches were, generally, very reasonable (and elegant) in size. The "fashion" of showing off enormous time pieces on the wrist (no matter how precious and expansive they might be) is a disease of our century. We called this a "parvenu" attitude in French. All my best wishes, Hugo

This was a really fun episode. My 2021 discovery was a flannel made-to-measure jacket I got for a TEDx talk I presented. All of my previous suits and sport coats had been cheap, off the rack purchases. For what I do (I'm a photographer), I could never comfortably wear them because they were so stiff that when I'd life my arms to take a photo, the whole coat would lift in an unnatural way. By contrast, this new jacket is so easy to wear that I can forget it's there and move how I need to comfortably. Plus it just looks better than anything I've owned before. I'll never buy a fused suit or coat again.

A beautiful pair of sneakers can be a great part of your casual wardrobe. I saw your episode on Sneaker selection and you missed an amazing sneaker brand out of Northhampton London called Crown Northhampton. Their sneakers are minimalist which maybe you don't personally prefer, but they are made using high quality leathers and they are recraftable. One of the down sides of sneakers is when the sole wears out you have to throw them away. Not with Crown Northhampton. love the episode. For those of us in the US there is a small company making suspenders and shirt tail garters here called KK&J. They make high quality made in USA products. I have a pair of their shirttail garters and they are great.

With regards to suspenders, I had bought one last year and then I went looking to buy a pair of trousers for them without the belt loops but I could not find one; I had to buy a pair with the belt loops to modify. I then bought a quick unpick, thread and needle to remove all the belt loops and to sew on the buttons for the suspenders. Luckily the suspenders that I had bought came with the anchoring buttons for me to sew onto my trousers with.

Love cashmere jumpers. Work perfectly under a jacket in cold weather and can be found in a variety of amazing colours if your so inclined to be more bold. One other downfall with cashmere, the moths love them too, they will always go after cashmere over wool.

Hello Hugo. Very, very nice pick with this Angelus. I did a bit of research, and it appears that this specific model does indeed have a case of 38mm. What is ironic is that, in the early 50's, this would have been considered large, as most watches were in the 30mm - 36mm range. I believe your model was produced in very small quantities, and has the interesting feature of being "antimagnetique", which is probably achieved by the addition of a soft iron cage around the movement, which helps explain the relatively large case (for its time).

    Hello Mr. Jacomet,
Couldn't agree more on the watch trend that even dress watches are being produced at 40+mm sizes. These dimensions are a big disconnect from the understated elegance of a classy watch.
If you are looking for a alternative source of suspenders I can recommend Serà fine silk.

I'm a fan of the turtleneck. Elegant yet humble. I like to don a sportcoat but a shirt and tie seems too much for everyday wear especially when my peers dress very casual.
Suspenders are something I need to look into. On cold winter days, I've worn high-waisted thick frieze trousers that weight a full kilogramme and a belt is definitely not the way to go.
I admire your watch! The moonphase complication is useless yet fascinating and beautiful. I have a Zeppelin LZ129 Hinderburg watch.

If you've a waisvoat with their interior red, blue and green in little squares, your suspenders Will make with this same design bu him. Have a nice week Sir!!!

    Dear Mr. Jacomet,
I would like to ask you for an advice. I am going to Paris in a few weeks and I plan to have a 3 piece made-to-measure suit made there. I have seen you mention both Howard’s Paris and Scavini Tailleur in your videos and I am choosing between these two interesting alternatives. I am going to have a pair of trousers made at Scavini for sure, but I still haven’t decided where to have the suit made. I am sure both of these are great choices, but a nudge to the right direction would be very much appreciated. Thank you for the high quality videos and for teaching so much about the sartorial world.
    Best regards,
