    I'd love the MTA to consider using more proof of payment fares like they have on the select bus services. Paying while waiting at the stop rather than on the bus saves a ton of time on busy routes, especially when those routes are operated with articulated buses with 3 doors which could be used for loading.

      @@adamfox9651 Not me. You must be talking about a different Jeremiah, because I’m not MTA mouthpiece with lane excuses for some service changes.
      However in my own views, while some of the service changes are good, especially the South Bronx crosstown changes that nearly everyone likes (I.e, the Bx36 changes), there could’ve been some improvements. For a starter, I do feel that there could’ve been a compromise for the Bx28 and Bx34 changes, namely having the Bx28 change via Bedford Park Blvd go through and keeping the Bx34 route the same, but extending the Bx10 from Norwood-205th Street station to Fordham Plaza via 204th and Webster Avenue (where the Bx34 was supposed to run). This would once more connect Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil to Fordham Plaza. For Co-op City, bus service should’ve been consolidated to some extent while retaining access inside and to/from the area. Specifically have the Bx23 loop around all the sectors like usually, and have a revamped Bx38 serve all the sections, and then run non-stop on the Bx28 route to every subway station to the Bedford Park Blvd station on the 4 train (stopping only at those subway stations). A similar route (branded Bx25) would operate from Bay Plaza and through Sections 1, 2, and 3, and also run non-stop to each subway station to the Bedford Park Blvd station on the 4 train. Both the Bx26 and Bx28 would continue to operate only to Asch Loop and Sections 4 and 5 (with the Bx25 and Bx38 being non-stop feeders to the subway). The Bx30 would remain largely unchanged in Co-op City.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 2 года назад

      @@graceghazaii4434 How so? The Bx36 is still goes to the same destinations but on a faster route than the old meandering segment via two crosstown streets and Boston Road. Not to mention that 174th Street still has the Bx11, which also goes to the same Manhattan destination as the Bx36 and the Bx40 now serves East 180th Street. If anything, Bx36 riders riders who still needs service to either street can walk from Tremont. No big issue, but thousands of people really benefit from changing the South Bronx routes.
      These changes should not be reversed ASAP, but rather kept and expanded on. For a starter, we can make a Bx40 a limited stop service to benefit East 180th Street riders. Exclusive busway on Tremont Avenue is also a huge welcome for these riders as well. Then we can expand the Bx11, which provides a needed connection between Morrisania and Southeast Bronx by extending it further along past Parkchester.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 2 года назад +2

      They really didn’t get the shaft. Much of Western Bronx is all good. The only way they would’ve gotten the shaft is if the Bx18 route were eliminated entirely, which was the only other option they had. Besides, University Avenue ridership from Undercliff is pretty low compared to the 170th Street ridership and new direct access to the 170th Street station is a big improvement.
      All Western Bronx route changes are fine and have received positive acclaim. Still I feel like more could’ve been done, including combining the Bx3 and Bx13, with Bx35 service into Manhattan increases to compensate. Extending the Bx18 back to Webster Avenue could also increase the viability of the new Highbridge-Morris Heights loop by providing a connection to the Bx41 SBS. And that route could also be extended over the Triboro Bridge to LaGuardia Airport.

      @@mtafan1878 The redesign of the Bx18 route is to not only provide a new direct access to the 170th Street stations on both the Concourse and Jerome Avenue Subway lines, but it is to also replace Bx11 service on 168th Street. As part of the redesign, the Bx11 was moved off of 168th Street to provide quicker service between Manhattan and the Bronx. That route also now goes to Parkchester, replacing Bx36 bus service there. Combined with the 181st Street busway, these changes make travel between Southeast Bronx and Upper Manhattan, something that retaining the current Bx11 routing via 168th Street would be unable to do. Thus to maintain service coverage, the Bx18 is now a loop route operating along 168th Street as well, eliminating that weird turn the bus made going from Undercliff Avenue to Sedgwick Avenue, a route used by very few riders. The only other option they had was to eliminate the Bx18 route entirely, a move that would’ve been disastrous for Western Bronx residents.

But the NYC Department of Transportation should bring back I-895 and Governor Hochul should reverse the changes that Cuomo did when he removed the Sheridan Expressway in 2018. Hopefully Kathy Hochul will revive I-895 and consider extending the Sheridan Expressway to either Southern Westchester County or the North Bronx to end at I-95 and provide a faster route from New England to Long Island for cars and trucks.

      Street cars would require laying tack, and still have to deal with the same traffic issues buses have to deal with.
      Buses can use current infrastructure, are significantly cheaper than street cars, and are highly flexible.
      Many of the features and benefits of street cars can be enacted using buses in dedicated bus ways. For example, until 2019, Ottawa, ON, Canada had world class bus rapid Transit system. Their dedicated Transitways allowed buses to serve the suburbs and bring riders to the city's core with little traffic disruptions.
      Quebec City, QC features a 4 tier system of local buses, suburban Express buses, Métrobuses, and late night services. All buses utilize dedicated bus lanes at various points of their routes. The Québécois respect the bus lane restrictions, allowing the buses to provide rapid service throughout the city.
