  • As part of the Fast Forward plan, we’re taking a holistic, clean-slate look at bus service patterns in each borough of New York City to better match service with current and future travel demands. This will be a collaborative process among MTA New York City Transit, the New York City Department of Transportation, and the public to ensure all affected residents have a say in their redesigned networks. The one thing that’s wrong about the buses is the schedule and the grouping. There’s always about 4 buses running back to back and maybe even grouped but after the 4th one, no other bus comes for another 30 to 40 minutes. Idk if it’s because MTA is running late or otherwise but I think that If you guys actually had bus spacing like one bus every 5-15 stops or so would help the system a lot better

    • @g00rb4u
      @g00rb4u 5 лет назад

      What needs to happen is the first bus (running late) needs to be taken out of service so it reposition itself to it's scheduled location - but this takes a proactive fleet controller.

    • @m_duuhh
      @m_duuhh 5 лет назад

      Greg Chalker well idk about other buses but I take the M14A and D almost everywhere and these buses do that a lot. It’s a good strategy but it’s very inconvenient for the people at the bus stop that the bus skips so it could return running about two stops after the stop it skipped

    The MTA should implement the Q60 Limited. It is a really long route that operates between South Jamaica and East Midtown. This route has gotten really bad lately. The Q60 should become a Limited Route so badly. A lot of people who use that route have been complaining stating that it takes them one hour to wait for a Q60 bus. The MTA should know better that the Q60 route is a really long route along Queens Blvd. My cousin was late for school in one occasion when she observed that the Q60 was taking too long to arrive at the bus stop. The Q60 Limited could've gotten implemented a year right after the MTA took over the Green Lines Bus Company. Q60 riders deserve faster bus service in the future. The Q60 Limited should be considered as part of the Queens Bus Network Redesign. It should be a combination of Local and Limited Stop Service at the same time.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад

      PickleBetard A.K.A Pickle Rick's Fatass Cousin When they did the study of the B46 for select bus implementation, only 9% of the passengers travel between a DeKalb Avenue and the rest of the route, which travels on Broadway. The 5 least busiest stops are all on that one Broadway section alone. Not to mention that the section on Broadway is really slow for bus travel. Therefore, it really didn’t make any sense to spend all this federal money to put in one metrocard machine and one coin machine at certain stops, plus some bus lanes for only a small amount of people. As a rider one the B46 SBS myself, I have got to say that this is one of the best decisions they made, because after all, I wouldn’t want have my bus delayed by traffic in Bed-Stuy. I have places to go to. Also, this section is duplicated by J train service, which is far more faster and reliable than terrible Broadway Street traffic. Those 9% of riders who need Broadway service can just use the J train, B46 local or B47 routes.

      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад

      NYCT Enthusiast Changes to the B44 local and SBS should be a part of a neighborhood redesign of the bus networks in Flatbush. More specifically:
      B49: Rerouted from Foster Avenue and Bedford/Rogers Avenues to operate straight along Ocean Avenue to Flatbush Avenue, then along the length of Empire Blvd to Utica Avenue and Empire Blvd, where the route will terminate. Provides direct and straight service along Ocean Avenue and Empire Blvd. Service along Rogers/Bedford Avenues covered by Rerouted B44 Local service.
      B44: Local service rerouted from NY Avenue to Rogers Avenue to replace B49 local service.
      B43: possible reroute via Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues and along NY and Nostrand Avenues to Flatbush Avenue (2)(5) stations (NY Avenue converted to one way north of Farragut Road).
      Also as an additional reroute, I would also suggest taking some of the B44 SBS trips that operate to/from Knapp and rerouting them to Kingsborough Community College instead. The SBS to Knapp Street is VERY underutilized and operate very empty, while nearby Kingsborough routes operate to the gills. By making this shift, the buses would be better utilized.

      QT75: This route would start at 51st Street and Northern Blvd, then proceed down the current Q104 route to Queens Blvd, where it would take a rather circuitous route via Greenpoint Avenue, 48th Avenue, 30th Street, Jackson Avenue, and the Queensboro Bridge (essentially a combination of the B24 and Q39). After entering Manhattan, it would follow the Q32 route to 42nd Street/Bryant Park.

      @@TheRailLeaguer Update:
      It has been confirmed that the MTA is redoing the entire “Draft Plan” for the Queens Bus Network Redesign Project. The proposed routes that you were explaining to me two years ago will no longer be utilized. I am very happy that the MTA withdrew the original “Draft Plan” because the entire “Proposed Draft Plan” came out very inaccurate and they did a very terrible job. This resulted in a lot of complaints from the people that rely on the bus system even members of Queens Community Boards demanded to the MTA to please redo the entire “Draft Plan”. I don’t know if you began to realize afterwards that the “Draft Plan” did not came out like how we were expecting it to be. I personally didn’t liked the temporary “QT” formatting. I really hope that everyone finally realizes that the “Draft Plan” came out very inaccurate. As I was reading through the entire plan, I got very furious when I saw that the MTA was proposing the elimination of the Q53 +Select Bus Service+ route when they should understand that it is a route with very high ridership and it connects riders to several important transfer points along the entire route. What also angered me is that the MTA didn’t even explained how many stops are planned to be either added, relocated, and/or removed on all of the existing Queens Bus Routes. I am really hoping that the updated “Draft Plan” becomes more accurate and detailed for the best of everybody. All of this confusion could’ve been avoided if the MTA did the right thing by doing it exactly like how it was done with the “Proposed Draft Plan” for the Bronx Bus Network Redesign Project. The “New Draft Plan” is expected to be released within the 1st Quarter of 2022 and it is expected to be much different than the “Original Draft Plan”. Please disregard the proposals that you mention to me because those proposals have been scrapped.

      Tony DNY In most cases, for the local routes you don’t have to. In the Central Bronx, the current plan for crosstown service is a grade A excellent. The core plan here is to reroute the Bx36 from the circuitous route via East 174th Street and East 180th Street to a more direct route via East Tremont Avenue. This one change alone should speed up service on this high ridership route by 10 fold.
      To maintain service on East 180th Street, they are proposing to reroute the Bx40 from East Tremont Avenue to East 180th Street. This would provide more reliable service for Bx40 riders. East 180th Street riders looking for service into Manhattan should walk to Tremont Avenue for the Bx36 or take the Bx40 to University Avenue and transfer to the Bx3. However, the distance between East 180th and East Tremont Avenue is not that bad.
      To maintain service on East 174th Street, the Bx11 is proposed to be rerouted via East 174th Street to the Parkchester station, providing a direct connection between Morrisania and the 6 train, which is presently unavailable. 174th Street customers who need to go to West Farms Square can either take the Q44 SBS or take the Bx11 to Boston Road and transfer to the Bx21. Customers looking to get to the East 180th Street corridor can take the Bx11 and transfer to a north-south bus line. Louis Nine Blvd customers can walk to Boston Road for Bx11 service.
      Finally, to maintain service in the Jennings Street area, the Bx35 would be rerouted from Gladstone Square and serve Jennings Street, West Farms Road, and Bryant Avenue. While these guys may have to use the Bx35 instead of the Bx11, all major connections would be maintained. If they need service along 170th Street and Claremont Pkwy, again, they can take a short walk between the two corridors.
      These changes would result in very few people in the Central Bx needing to transfer buses, except in the cases listed above.
      In Norwood, they are proposing that the Bx34 from Bainbridge and Valentine Avenues and onto Webster Avenue. This would provide more reliable service for Bx34 riders. Riders on the eliminated segment can walk to Webster Avenue to the Bx34 and Bx41, or can use the Bx1/2.
      To maintain service on the one wide section of Bainbridge, the Bx28 would be rerouted to serve Bainbridge Avenue and Bedford Pk Blvd, making service more direct. Passengers for Mosholu Pkwy should transfer to the Bx10 and Paul Avenue customers should transfer to the Bx1/2.
      Again, very people will need to transfer buses unnecessarily.

      sounds good although the bus services are run by MTA and not private contractors unlike here in the UK where operators run services commercially or under contract from TfL, the local Passenger Transport Executive or for the local council/county council so I already know that the bus services will probably still be shit - I know that because bus services were shit in the 1980s here in London and its only when LRT (London Regional Transport - the predecessor to TfL) were forced to hand over contracts for operating routes to private companies that services really started to improve.

      Company will be persuaded to make more money by pleasing the customer by providing them a valuable service at high frequency which is what private operators with competition achieve, its why bus service in Hong Kong is so good and why places such as Manchester and Liverpool in England have seen a drastic increase in the number of bus services throughout the city since the privatization of the National Bus Company (NBC) in 1989 so privatization really does work its just that government has grown so large that its almost impossible to think about what life would be like without their intervention in certain industries (in this case it would be public transport).

      MJofLakeland1 New York will be different, though the Staten Island Express was a bit of a disaster. However, they are taking the lessons learned from that and putting it on the rest of the redesign. The Bronx one is very decent for the most part. How do I know? Looking at Central Bronx, the plans there look excellent. The star of the show is the changes to the Bx36, which will now travel straight on Tremont Avenue instead of meandering via 174th Street, Boston Road, East 180th Street, and Webster Avenue. As the Bx36 is a high ridership route, this should speed up service for all of its passengers.
      To maintain service on East 180th Street, the Bx40 is proposed to be reroute from Tremont Avenue to East 180th Street, straightening the route significantly and avoiding congestion at West Farms Square. Accompanying the change, the Bx42 will be shortened to Westchester Square, and will serve Harding Avenue, Balcom Avenue, and SUNY Maritime all at once, ensuring that Throggs Neck and SUNY Maritime customers would not be delayed due to traffic issues in West Farms Sq. However, the Bx40 reroute onto East 180th Street would improve reliability and also serve the express and ADA-compliant East 180th Street Stop.
      To maintain 174th Street service, the Bx11 would be rerouted from Jennings Street to serve 174th Street to Parkchester. This would provide more direct service for 174th Street customers and provide a direct connection between Morrisania and the 6 train, which is presently unavailable.
      Finally, to maintain Jennings Street service, the Bx35 will be extended from Gladstone Sq to serve Jennings Street, West Farms Road, and Bryant Avenue. While customers here would have to use the Bx35 instead of the Bx11, all major connections will be retained.
      In Norwood, to improve service, the Bx34 would be taken off Bainbridge and Valentine Avenues, and be rerouted to the wider Webster Avenue to Fordham Plaza. To maintain service on Bainbridge Avenue to Bedford Park Blvd, the Bx28 would no longer serve the Mosholu Parkway 4 station. Instead, the Bx28 would continue south via Bainbridge Avenue and Bedford Pk Blvd to Jerome Avenue. Bainbridge and Valentine customers needing access to Fordham Plaza should switch to the Bx1, or walk to Webster Avenue for the Bx34 and Bx41. However, this should make service more direct and reliable.
      In Highbridge and Morris Heights, the Bx11 would be straightened as to no longer serve Shakespeare Avenue. Instead, the Bx11 would travel directly on the El Grant Hwy directly to 170th Street. To maintain Shakespeare Avenue service, the Bx18 would be extended to serve it, become a circulator route connecting Highbridge and Morris Heights with the B, D, and 4 trains. This would improve service and make things more direct.
      In Southeast Bronx, the Bx8 would be shortened from Locust Point to Country Club at Dean Avenue, improving service for the majority of riders traveling above Dean Avenue. Instead, the Bx24 route would be straightened through Country Club and travel via the Current Bx8 route to Locust Point. The Bx24 and this section of the Bx8 both travel through neighborhoods with similar densities, so combining them would allow for more efficient service to these areas.
      I see no reason for these changes to not go forward, especially in Central Bx.

    The Staten Island Express buses had a Budget Cut, I mean “Redesign” August 2018. It’s been the WORST thing the MTA has done to our island. Make no mistake, this is a GLORIFIED BUDGET CUT.
    30 of our bus stops have been eliminated during the redesign launch, 24 have been added back by customer complaints. 5 bus routes were initially eliminated, 2 have been brought back.
    The bus stop consolidation they due are ineffective and can leave you with more bus stops than in the previous network. You also windup with uneven pick up vers drop off bus stops.
    More people have moved into the city, that requires more buses and more stops, not less bus stops and less bus routes. You all may not see it now, but my heart aches for the naïve people who think the MTA is willing to do improvements.

      @@HelloooThere You joking, right? If anything, the crosstown portion of the bus network redesign is actually a work of art and should’ve been implemented a long time ago.
      The core of this subset of changes: the Bx36. This route currently operates between Washington Heights and Soundview via a meandering route on several crosstown streets that makes zero sense. Under the new plan, this route will be straightened to operate on Tremont Avenue all the way, no longer operating on 174th Street and East 180th Street. All of the current connections will be retained and riders will be seeing faster service.
      With the Bx36 out of the way, this frees up the Bx40 and Bx42 to operate on East 180th Street to replace Bx36. Today the two routes operate through West Farms Square, which is heavily congested. Now they will travel on a more direct route that serves an express train and bypasses the congestion in West Farms Square, again retaining all the connections.
      To replace 174th Street service, the Bx11 will be moved from its routing on West Farms Road to 174th Street. This move actually introduced a new connection between the Morrisania neighborhood and the 6 train at Parkchester station, making commuting between Washington Heights, the South Bronx, and Southeast Bronx more convenient. It also straightens out the Crosstown travel on 174th Street, and allow the Bx11 to more directly serve the 2 and 5 trains.
      Finally, to replace the West Farms Road service, the Bx35 will be extended to serve serve West Farms Road, Jennings Street, and Bryant Avenue, again to retain the current connections.
      All in all, none of these crosstown changes will make trips inconvenient. Besides, very few people are going between the 174th Street corridor and East 180th Street corridor. It’s just too slow and indirect. Also the number of riders inconvenienced is very low, especially with the more direct crosstown routes.

      Hello There The Bronx Redesign Draft Plan came out, and looking at it, it’s very decent for the most part, with the Central Bronx being a grade A improvement. The centerpiece of the changes in Central Bronx is the proposed changes to the Bx36. Under the new route, the Bx36 will no longer make the time consuming meander via 174th Street, Boston Road, and East 180th Street. Rather, the service will now go up White Plains Road, then straight along Tremont Avenue between White Plains Road In Parkchester and Webster Avenue in the West Bronx. This would provide faster crosstown service and provide new transfer opportunities at White Plains Road and Tremont Avenue with the nearby Bx22.
      To maintain service on the old segment on East 180th Street, they are proposing to reroute the Bx40 along East 180th Street between Rosedale Avenue in Van Nest and Webster Avenue in the West Bronx. Not only would this make service more direct as well, but it would also serve East 180th Street, which is an express and ADA-accessible station. This should shave 5 minutes off the trip to the East Side via the 5 train.
      To maintain 174th Street service, it is proposed to reroute the Bx11 from Jennings Street to operate along 174th Street to Parkchester. Not only would this provide faster crosstown service, but this would provide a connection between Morrisania and the 6 train, which is presently unavailable.
      Finally, to maintain service in the area near Jennings Street, the Bx35 would be rerouted from the bus congested Gladstone Square area to serve West Farms Road, Jennings Street, and Bryant Avenue (Why they didn’t make it go further up West Farms Road is beyond me). While customers would have to use the Bx35 instead of the Bx11, this should result in more reliable service.
      These changes would not result in people paying two-three fares.
      In Norwood, they are proposing to eliminate Bx34 service from the narrow Bainbridge and Valentine Avenues. Instead, they are having the route run on Webster Avenue to Fordham Plaza. To maintain service on the one wide portion of Bainbridge to Bedford Park Blvd, the Bx28 would be rerouted from its circuitous section via the Mosholu Pkwy 4 station and having it run on Bainbridge and Bedford Pk Blvd, serving the Bedford Pk B and D station on Grand Concourse. As the section of Bainbridge and Valentine Avenues are a short distance away from both Grand Concourse and Webster Avenue, it is expected that those along Bainbridge and Valentine Avenues looking for Fordham Plaza would switch to using the Bx1 and Bx2 on Grand Concourse or walk to Webster Avenue for the Bx34, both of which are a very short distance away.
      In another part of the Bronx, to make more crosstown improvements, the Bx6 would be rerouted from Hunts Point to serve residents on Story Avenue to Pugsley Avenue and Turnbull Avenue, which again, will improve crosstown service.
      None of the changes above will result in people paying more than one fare.
