CBS2's Marcia Kramer rides along with Transit Authority Chairman Andy Byford for an exclusive look at how he plans to overhaul the MTA in just 10 years.
I gotta say Andy Byford is doing one hell of a job in NYC after spending years in London and Toronto fixing problems. He made the signals a lot better, speed up trains, and some MTA projects actually met deadlines.
@@dmann5938 We miss him here. It really hasn't been the same without him, I saw him around 4 times in toronto. He actually got us to implement new ATC signals which hopefully reduces the signal problems.

I’m glad he is. At least he’s taking mass transit unlike many of the MTA board members. They have picked the right man to run the New York City Transit Authority.
It blows my mind how people see someone with more so much experience and such a great track record genuinely trying to improve the NYC shithole subway, and they blame him for all of its existing problems. He's only been here two years and the system is so much better because of it. It's over a century old and it has a long history of corruption - blame Albany for that. He's sped up trains, made them cleaner and safer, renovated stations in ways that actually matter, and all of this was done when he said it would be, unlike Cuomo's pet projects.
As a Los Angeles native and a soon-to-be NYC resident, swipping the MTA card was really a pain in the ass whenever I was in NYC. On the other hand, the LA metro tap card is much easier to use. MTA is no doubt the best transit system in the country. But comparing to the transit systems in other developed countries, it needs a lot of work in infrastructure and cleanness. Even many stations in Manhattan look really outdated.
Well the MTA already has a plan to phase out MetroCard and to come out with OMNY, which is tap and pay. This is a really old system that needs complete modernization, but needs a lot of money from the city and the state, and from what I can tell, they're trying really hard not to give them money.
Bill Chen don’t expect the Stations to be modern Do you know how disruptive to service it is to Close down a station cleaning it would be good and the city and state Needs to give The MTA Money To Modernize it Which they try not too So unless you wanna pay for it let’s stick with the stations now and focus on cleaning them
Abdoulie Ceesay They should close alternate stations on a single line at a time. For example, for station renovations on the 7th Avenue IRT south of Times Sq, they can renovate these stations first: 28th Street 18th Street Christopher Street Canal Street After that, these next stops should be renovated: 23rd Street Houston Street Franklin Street That way, impact is minimized while renovating more stops.

The issue with the subway is the fucking people that ride the Subways everyday. We need more security and we need to teach people how to act like adults. We also need to outlaw panhandling and gospel preaching and music in the subway cars.
Break the unions and privatization. Let private enterprise run the system. Too much overtime and large pensions. Too much management and waste. The system is a cesspool of waste. The employees who suffer from all of the above are train operators and conductors. They suffer daily. Sell the system and let corporate executives clean house. The system should make a profit.
What we need is a big economic depression these unions will suffer including these devil's running public services will suffer. Including management wasting money and resources.
Long ago, the subways WERE privately owned. There was the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) and the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (BRT) (morphed into the Brooklyn Manhattan Transit Company [BMT] after the infamous Malbone Street Tunnel wreck in the 19-teens). The bus lines were also private companies (5th Avenue Coach Company, Surface Transit Corporation, Avenue B & East Broadway Transit Company, and others). For a whole host of reasons, private ownership lost money and NYC had to take over everything. I'd love to see a return to private ownership but it ain't gonna happen, at least in my lifetime. Unions will be around in the system until NYS becomes a "right-to-work" state and NYC follows along. Think that's ever gonna happen? And I haven't even commented on the MTA railroad lines (the former LIRR, NYCRR Commuter Operations, etc.).
No, he actually picks up litter. When he was the CEO of the Toronto Transit Commission, people often saw him in stations and on trains doing exactly what he was doing in this video. He doesn't own a car nor have a driver's license, so transit is the way he gets around the city.

The ppl man.. The ppl who rides or lay around the system doesnt make anything easier.. They are like animals down here.. Running for closing doors holding them open keeping the traind stationed. The homeless, whack jobs, crack heads, trouble makers, intoxicated etc and if you know your not feeling well dont get on the trains cuz not only your putting yout health at risk but once you pass out that train will not move till EMS or NYPD comes to rescue ya ass... The issue with the subway is the fucking people that ride the Subways everyday. We need more security and we need to teach people how to act like adults. We also need to outlaw panhandling and gospel preaching and music in the subway cars.
ivorysteele Unfortunately the cop-haters will be angry with that plan.
Agreed. We need to improve this shit. Also make sure the stations are actually clean
Too much greed and waste.
And I haven't even commented on the MTA railroad lines (the former LIRR, NYCRR Commuter Operations, etc.).
stylus850 Agreed.
Anthony Bove Privatize the MTA and service will be MUCH WORSE than what we have now.
Not wheelchair friendly.
well its 100 years and mostly built before the laws happened not possible now
All new stations renovations will be wheel chair accesible going forward
He picks up litter for TV
No, he actually picks up litter. When he was the CEO of the Toronto Transit Commission, people often saw him in stations and on trains doing exactly what he was doing in this video. He doesn't own a car nor have a driver's license, so transit is the way he gets around the city.
What about the smell of urine?
I got used to it
Just copy what koreans do.
They dont use metrocards
fking use smartphones
. they have wifi
they have AC
they have CLEAN super modern everything
NYC subways.... its literally stuck in the 70s.
enough said.
Have the track gated doors. so no littering will happen and no suicides. or air pods or phones on the tracks.
1: The MTA needs money so they get it from metro cars
2:You can’t stop the public from using Phones
3:Not everything need WiFi
4:NYC Has a lot Open air subway stations And theirs no place in putting the AC
5:Do you realize how expensive it is to have Screen Doors For a subway system that needs money from The city and state which never gives them it
They were created long before that. That's why.
I like him every since he step foot in working w. MTA it’s been some improvements vs how thing says to be🤷🏾♀️
The ppl man.. To many ppl to many variables one person can jack the whole system..
