    I remember the ad with the 2 ladies at Woodside station airing one night during the Channel 4 news at 11PM. As the ad ended the news resumed with a story of an off duty NYPD officer who was mugged on either the N or R train. When the perp found the officer's badge he attempted to sever the officer's hand with his knife.

    Moved to NYC when I was 2 years old and been here ever since. Not always easy or pretty, but I value my upbringing here. And I will always remember this ad campaign. They even put it on the train platforms! I seriously LOVED this campaign. Started taking the NYC subway to school in about 1987/88 and I literally saw how they started making the system better. This campaign was confident, documentary-style, and featured real New Yorkers and Transit workers just talking. It gave me more confidence in the trains, I know that much!

    This is the kind of overhaul needed today: structural and integral. The so-called "overhauls" being done nowadays are just about putting petty tech in stations and implementing CBTC instead of doing quality repairs to tracks and tunnels.

    They need to remake these ads today. Andy Byford's currently turning our system around for the better right now. (UPDATE: Oof.)

      For sure. Even tho Andy is gone, the Mta should definitely invest in some ads to make people go into the system

    2:05 That is William Bratton who would be Giuliani's first NYPD commissioner from 1994-96 and whose quality of life initiatives spurred the dramatic crime reduction that was an integral part of NYC's revitalization.

    Nice t.v. ad by the MTA and the R68A came in as the same time as this t.v. advertisement since both were made in 1989 along with the 63rd street line

    Went to NYC when I turned 12 in 2013, and for a day trip just last saturday, and while I have a Subway where I live: Toronto, the New York Subway is just so much more! Sure I saw someone peeing, and yes it's crowded and dirty, but fuck it, that's New York and what makes it special. The trains are fast, go everywhere, and sure it's complicated, but once you understand the map, it's easy!

    0:57 have patience. It’s not easy fixing a system with over 450 stations including MNR and LIRR

  • @CraCra20360

    These ads are awesome! If only the NYPD & National Guards enter the subways to remove criminals and homeless people in present-day NYC; plus the subways brought back the good times in the NYCT. And the LIRR had printed timetables along with the MTA system map (with MNR, LIRR & NYCT)

    Why did cameras in 1989 have that quality and too much color

    • @alexweider5539
      @alexweider5539 Месяц назад

      They didn't. This was a choice. There were very specific "documentary"-style commercials that started to appear in the late 1980s, especially in the New York City area, maybe even starting with a now-legendary Citibank commercial with bank employees just talking to the camera. This was a choice to be a bit edgy and the quality and color were part of the direction of the ad.
