  • Riding a motorcycle on Indian roads is the best way to travel in India, but it comes with its risks. I've taken a Royal Enfield motorcycle over 10,000km across India, and now I'll teach you what I've learnt. I have the tips you need to ride a bike safely in India.
    This isn't just a motorcycle riding tips video though, it's a full-on vlog where we travel from Gulmarg to Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir. Along the way, I show you how to fill petrol at an Indian gas station, we stop for lunch at a Kashmiri bakery, and the Army blocks our way with their convoy. It was quite a ride through the most picturesque place in the world, Kashmir Valley.

    there are a few motor rules that differ in Jammu and Kashmir, Its advised not to use high beams at Night if you are travelling to a places which has Indian Army posts in between, to the rest of the Indian states as per law you are allowed to use high beams only in national highways but neither the police enforces it nor the people follow it, but in J&K its different, So if you are driving at night keep that in mind, because in case of Indian Army they go as per the book and you cant bribe them out.

    Karl, I am from down south, I drive here. I don't honk unless myself or someone is in danger. That means I don't honk when I am passing, usually when I approach a curve. I always give the right of way to pedestrians and other vehicles as per law. I don't claim people around me do that. I feel safe driving that way. If I were you I would not have driven on the shoulder of that road, not even a proper shoulder, you could get a flat tire and being a normal foriegner means further hassles and possibility of getting scammed to fix it. But I am with you on avoiding obstacles and watching the rule breakers on the roads. I am of the opinion that the arrogance of bus and truck drivers should be dealt by the law and this being a democracy, we the people need to respond to them.

    • @saminder987
      @saminder987 5 лет назад +4

      In India people change lanes without any reason, when you are passing other vehicles it is important to let them know by honking, not everyone checks their mirror, honking while passing other vehicles is like a safety precaution from your end.

    • @TheSanthalVlogger
      @TheSanthalVlogger 2 года назад

      Honking is not bad, honking is for warning. It reduces the chance of accident. But don’t honk unnecessarily.

    Good tip about keeping left, I would add that at night best to generally keep a little further mid-lane tho' as the tarmac on the very edge of the road has a habit of having large chunks of it missing, which are much easier to avoid during the day.

    In India, realistically, trucks=bus>tempos>SUVs>sedans>small cars>rickshaws>motorbike>scooters> cycles> pedestrians.
    That's the pecking order and if you don't wanna die, respect it.

    The best thing of Kashmir is it is a valley. A pure valley. Here in the eastern state of Sikkim, the scenery is in the Himalayan foot. This is why Kashmir is so pretty. Too bad its wrecked with conflicts.

    I am citizen of India. And when you say "I use horn for 4 purposes. 1st....2nd...3rd...4th..." I realized I never noticed those things. I just knew this. But still it's amzing to see from your perspective. Your vlogs put smile on my face.
    Do you or anyone who's reading this comment know about similar channel for UK and US? I'm writing a novel. So I'll need basic things of those countries, just like What can a "blow horn" do in India.
    Please reply if you know.

    Riding a motorcycle can be risky everywhere but especially here

    • @yog-sadhna3415
      @yog-sadhna3415 5 лет назад +1

      It is risky in himalayas, especially 3 states of himachal, uttarakhand and jnk. Also aome parts of north east

    • @OlllOHD
      @OlllOHD 5 лет назад

      Not as risky as riding in the west. You travel fast & if you fall.. You most certainly die. Unlike India most of the time you'll get away with some bruises

    Karl ... when it comes to motorcycle size/cc, tires, etc. ... what is your recommended choice of size range & type for travel in India.
    Been to India a handful of times visiting friends & family however they stick to car, train, tuk tuk travel modes.
    I drove a car in Hyderabad once for about 15min....🥴 ... 💓📈 ... ... Would like to bike the highways and rural areas next visit.
    I'm a west coast Canadian. I rode an old Yamaha 650 around town for years. Looking at buying a Triumph Tiger 900 for a bit more dual purpose exploring. 1200cc and up is a nice highway cruiser size here for distance. Around 750 +/- for daily inter city works fine here. Probably much the same as in New Zealand but I've never been there.
    I would expect in India a 350cc at the very most just judging from your vlog & from what I've seen out the window when there.
    Nothing too heavy nor fast. Is an 80 or 125 more than adequate? Can't imagine my 50yr old butt and shaken eyeballs on an 80 for 400k straight... 🤣
