Something to consider. When using an implement, tiller, bush hog etc. Reduce RPM, pick up implement so that it is not touching ground. Engage PTO, increase RPM to desired level. Lower implement to engage ground, grass etc. Setting implement on the ground and engaging the PTO can break things. Ive learned these lessons the hard way over the years.
Good driving there young lady. Great place to learn how to drive to where you cant hurt yourself or anyone else or anything. Good job kid. God bless. I love yaws land. Its so pretty
You have lots of oaks and other hardwood trees on your property. When the leaves fall gather them up and then make some compost. If you have some welded or woven wire, you can make quick and easy compost bins by cutting a 10-12 length of wire, make it into a cylinder shape and tie the ends together with some light gauge wire. Pile the leaves into the bin and add some green material.
Tiller is great. Two things to watch out for. Don’t go in reverse OR lift the 3-point hitch to max height (7or 8 on the tractor) with the PTO on. You can damage the rear flap and tines going in reverse.
That garden plot is looking pretty solid. Might want to till it up a bunch more going in different directions & mixing in a bunch of dried leaves & grass clippings. Needs a bunch more organic material in it to fluff it up & make it easier for the roots to get down in there. Have a great day 😊.
No doubt it does! I'll probably till the other half of that bed a couple more times and add a bunch of organic material in between tilling's before I plant the onions. (Mike)
As much grass as you got to mow you need a grass catcher or a lawn sweeper to collect your clippings to put in a compost pile plus all the leaves. You'll never have to buy a bag of soil again. Crush the egg shells and put that in with your plants when you plant. Alot of neat tricks to learn in gardening for better yields without all the expense of just going and buying everything.
Thinking I would spray the new areas for next spring with grass weed killer. Then till it in about a week deeply. And add compost etc and till in. Get a head start on nutrients etc. ???
I considered that but the rainy season is coming up fast. Leaving the existing pasture in place through the rainy season will keep everything from eroding away me thinks :) (Mike)
Without even watching the video yet, I worry about Mike breaking the tractor. Could I suggest creating a daily schedule to assign Syd or Frankie to babysit so he doesn’t hurt himself or any equipment? LOL
I've got a suggestion about Frankie learning how to shoot, I suggest that she watch some videos from Kristen Joy Weiss, she's one of this country's very best small caliber shooters, yes she does have a lot of gold and silver metals, she does have a lot of RUclips videos, Kristen Joy Weiss
Would be nice to have water near the garden. I haven't tried this myself but think it would work. Use your box scraper. Add some weight to the top such as a large log on top - 3 point doesn't put downward pressure so any digging depth would come from added weight. With the 1 x scarifier drop it in the ground from a point near a water spigot then drive toward the garden. If it makes a wide enough opening, drop a hose or maybe irrigation hose into it. This way, you don't have to pull hose across the property nor worry about driving over and/or moving it to mow, etc. Just have to connect at the spigot when in use. Flush it out in the winter.
You may have to double dig and till your beds the first few years Mike. I'm planning on having to amend and double dig and I'm planning on adding charged biochar myself. The clay is loaded with nutrients but it takes a ton of work to get it out of the clay. Enjoy your grillin! Loved your commentary throughout the planting Syd. Made me giggle. Have an awesome weekend!
@@3MISSISSIPPI we live in west Texas but we have no green grass or big trees or humidity. Some time in the future we wanna move and I want acreage and stuff so always looking at different areas. Had never planned on moving from Texas but land is not cheap here.
Extend the top link on the 3 point and it will make the tiller not go to China... Here in the southeast, e put the garlic in the fridge for 6 to 8 weeks to cause vernalization. Thisbway the bulbs sprout stronger and grow throughout the winter season and harvest around May. Tell Mike, don't be fooled, this clay based soil can gro some beautiful gardens.
Good morning Syd, Mike and Frankie. My dad collects silver coins and all that. He is big on prepping. I remember carrying a box one time and didn't realize I had a scorpion near my hand. Syd you crack me up lol. The racks look great and now the stress from all the clutter is being organized. Great job y'all! Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day my friends. Oh if I wanted to email y'all what email do I use?
Thought I spied a few nice pecan trees on your property, Sid. That’s a money saver there…and maybe a money earner too. Give ‘em a little nitrogen and get a great harvest!
@@3MISSISSIPPI I wasn't certain about it ,,, but with your knowledge of the different varieties of garlic you planted ,,,, figured there was some Italian blood somewhere ... Italian is my favorite food , running just ahead of Cajun ....

Nothing wrong with the tractor... You could just take it to a welding shop, its an easy repair and they could make it stronger then stock.....

Syd I want to apologize to you about the comment I made about Mike when his forks fell off the tractor. I was being funny because the same thing happened to me but I had the bucket on my tractor.
Till the length of the planting bed not the width, it takes the tiller almost the entire width to actually get down to the depth of the tiller so going farther is always better for a tiller.....also NEVER use the tiller as a back blade backing up....If you bend the rear flap/gate it can effect how well the tiller works....You obviously figured out how to trim the pto shaft also...or had someone to do it for you....If not, and it's still too long or just barely fitting, that loader bend on Kenny will look like a paper cut compared to what a too long of a PTO shaft will do to the rear end of Kenny...

Mike if you have a field digger, pull that across the garden to loosen the subsoil, then till
Y’all oughta plant some Collards for New Years Supper.

Great job rotating Mike

.10.10.10 on the surface before you till and go north to south the east to west a few time and will get you plenty deep and 10 is slow over time
So you may have ro build up a garden. Well the one thing about building one up
You can create you some fantastic soil to grow whatever you want to
Ain't gonna lie....I cringed when Mike backed up and pushed dirt with the tiller tailgate. At least y'all are having fun with all of it! 👍
Yeah... I only did that once before I realized it was a bad idea! Luckily I didn't break it (Mike)
