This comment needs more likes! I have always felt this way watching his shows when I was a kid. I remember asking my polite and calm black mother why all the black mothers in Nick shows behave so loud and aggressively. I was angry that none of them were like the woman I grew up with! It's sad that this never changed in his shows and most people don't even talk about it.

i don't remember much from this show, but i do distinctly remember a quote from Andre in an episode where the gang is stuck inside a hot bus.

i may have butchered the quote, but the idea's still there. his grandma wasn't always crazy and Andre was old enough to remember when she wasn't.

Maddie Tannie maybe that’s why Andre puts up with her instead of putting her in an old people’s home like she seems she should. Before grandma lost her mind she was a decent musician but never went anywhere and Andres parents either had the grandma live with them or they died and Andre had to live with his grandma. Her passion for singing rubbed of on Andre and grandma was his biggest influence.

@Ayman Al-Tamimi I mean Jade is bipolar or maybe uses this mean girl persona to help her cope due to her dad not caring about her and her mom not being in the picture. Robbie probably has social anxiety, which would explain how awkward he is around people, or either a personality disorder, which would explain why he carries around a puppet that always makes fun of him. My friend said Sinjin's on the Autism spectrum. Everyone else probably don't have a mental illness, but they do got stuff going on, like Tori and Trina. Their parent's are going through some things. Both parents seem like they neglect the two girls, which would explain why Trina shoots for attention and Tori is more calm and mature because she had to grow up quickly, and it's pretty obvious that the mom is having an affair with the policeman who's also the dad's friend. There's little about Beck, so he doesn't really have a storyline. All I can say is that him and Jade are in a toxic relationship. He lets girls flirt with him and deals with an overly possessive girlfriend, and those two can't get enough of each other, even though they fight and complain often. Sikowitz is a weird hippie crack head. The coconuts, clothing, and behavior are just something else. Sorry for ranting, I know it's a lot to read.
Kimani J As a person with autism, I do have a feeling Sinjin might be on the spectrum, considering his lack of social skills (most notably his inability to detect non-verbal cues) and his obsession with bugs (most autistic people have very few interests that are very developped)

It's dementia plus I'm assuming andre lost his parents and grandfather. That would make me lose my shit too. Parents have the possibility of snapping mentally if they lose their children no matter the age, especially if it's traumatic enough.
But to snap this hard, I don't know. You're right though, trauma can really impact your mental state possibly for as long as you live.

Every caring parent wants to die before their kid. Mostly because that's how the brain is wired. When the kid dies the parent has no idea what went wrong. I'm starting to think she possible maybe had multiple miscarriages before one survived and then ya know. Andre is maybe the reason why she hasn't gone full crazy.
Yeah. Andre has never talked about his parents so I think she lost them. They had Andre and then disappeared or killed. So Andre went to his Grandma and Grandpa. Grandfather died and that's when she went crazy. That's what I think anyway
But she can still talk and walk😅 so I don’t think it is... and keep in mind there are different types
Respect for Andre for being a piano expert, an amazing play write, a good student, a good person in general, and still managing to almost single handedly take care of his crazy Grandma
I honestly didn't find Andre's grandma that funny to begin with (she wasn't a bad character and the actress herself is lovely, though!), but looking back I find it terrible that the show played severe mental illness for laughs. It's such a cruel thing to further stigmatize and LAUGH AT this kind of suffering. Anyway, I love any of your analyses on any of the Victorious characters (or any other character on any other show). Keep it up and stay safe!
Sophia S my sister and I were just talking about this! We also noticed that drake and Josh played mental illnesses for laughs with crazy steve (and maybe others). It makes sense considering it’s from the same creator, but i think it’s interesting how you don’t notice those little things until you come back to it when you’re older.

andre’s grandma was the best part of this show in my opinion, mostly because you could tell that she had a lot of fun playing that role.

Yo when the episode “beats in the heat” andre said as he was sweating so much “my grandma, before she lost her mind used to say to sing to make it better” or something like that. that saying she couldn’t be like that for 53 years so and she wasn’t like that when she was with andre ever since. and so andre was already old enough to know she was normal and okay. then he was also old enough to know when she lost her mind

My maternal grandmother had schizophrenia, and I can say that Andre's grandma is portraying a lot of symptoms of being a schizophrenia. She's paranoid that people are after her and is having hallucinations, which my grandmother had. My grandmother didn't exhibit symptoms of schizophrenia until her parents died, and then she went completely off the deep end when her husband, my grandfather, passed away in 2008

I think the whole Andre and his grandma thing is hilarious don't get me wrong, but as a teacher it's so bizarre to watch. A kid being "cared for" exclusively by a very sick, unstable old woman who actually requires HIS care more than the other way around isn't acceptable and the school would definitely have intervened.
Also, somewhat related side note: I've had many students who live with grandparents and it's pretty much never because the parents are dead but because they're unfit to care for their child. Considering the harmful stereotype that black people are deadbeats/abandon their kids, it really left a bad taste in my mouth that Andre had to be the one with mysteriously absent parents
I agree with everything aforementioned but it’s worth stating that almost all the characters don’t really have involved parents. Tori and Trina’s parents literally attempt to abandoned Trina by leaving both their daughters alone before Tori can abject. No one even knows what’s wrong with Cat’s parents either, just that her brother is definitely mentally unstable and that they’re most likely too involved with him to care for Cat. Jade’s dad doesn’t approve of what she does and is absent from her life for the most part because of work. Tori’s mother is cheating with her husband’s coworker so that’s also very messed up. All these people are really unstable.

Just because she's 'been screaming for 53 years' doesn't mean that she is 53 years, it means that she's been doing it for that long. There can be a period of her life where she didn't scream. There is no indication that what she said was her entire life.

I think that she's in her 70s. And this is why I think she snapped. Andre has never talked about his parents. All the others have. We might not have seen them, but they've talked about them so we know they're there. Andre never talks about his. I think they had Andre and then got in trouble or died or something. So Andre went to live with his grandparents. I don't think this is where she went crazy. Andre has said there was a time where his grandma wasn't crazy. I think she had been shouting for a long time. She wasn't crazy, but just because she's been shouting for 53 years doesn't mean she's crazy. But I think whatever happened to his parents started her to go downhill. I think Andre was between 7-10 years old when her husband died. I think that's when she snapped. Losing her children definitely brought her down, because losing children at any age hurts. But then losing your husband? And he was probably in his late 50s, early 60s. I would be a wreck. And then she started getting dementia. So I think she's suffering from loss and dementia. That's my theory on this.

I don’t think she’s related to Cat because cat is the only “different” one in the family maybe besides her brother, also I’m not saying there can’t be black and white family races but I think it’s unlikely for Andres grandma and cat
i worked at a nursing home as an activity person and we had a lady with dementia and schizophrenia and she acted very much like this. she would constantly ask for people’s names and was scared that if she got someone’s name wrong she’d be killed. she was scared of almost everything especially new people. she still knew basic things but she still feared most of them. she was also pretty young and it started early. so i think andreas grandma might have both dementia and schizophrenia, the behavior matches up.
In one of the episodes, Andre said that his grandma thought him something(I forgot what) “before y’know she went crazy”. Those were his words. I’m sorry I forgot which episode it was too. Thanks for making this video, I imagine it would be hard to make an analysis.

What if andre’s grandma was in a car crash with Andre’s parents and she was the only one to survive. Which explains why you never see Andre’s parents and he lives with his grandma. The car crash could be why she acts like that. It could have hit her head the wrong way and make her crazy.

Andre obviously doesn’t have parents. I think maybe she always had schizophrenia but Andres parents took care of her and made sure she went to therapy and had meds and such, or maybe she was in a home. But then maybe his parents died 6 years ago and that triggered her schizophrenia to her worse for multiple reasons 1) stress 2) made her fear dying herself so she became agoraphobic and 3) either stopped getting care for it cause Andres parents were no longer their to do it and Andre gave up on trying to get her to go cause the stress and agoraphobia made her worse and harder to control or she had to leave a care facility to take care of Andre while he finishes high school.
He do have parents. The correct sentence is his parents are not around him often.

Honestly, even though she was made to play the loud and crazy black woman but dialed up to 12 so hard that the knob broke off, she was still a very entertaining character. It's weird for me to say but she was the highlight of any episode she was in.

I'd almost guess you have a background in mental health considering I've been working in the field for 4 years with patients of all sorts, working with clients for (a current max of) 2.5 years, with the exact symptoms you've mentioned (9 patients total, 3 for the first 2 years and half a year with the other 4. I'm 22 and a fairly mentally healthy adult male, for point of reference.)
crazy as all heck to find a youtuber that knows what they're talking about when it doesn't directly involve game mechanics.
it's amazing to find someone that does more than basic wikipedia searches to find the most basic ass symptoms without knowing underlying causes of specific behaviours to identify actual diagnosis for mental issues.
10/10 would recommend this channel specifically.

I’m not sure why but when she was screaming at the butterfly in cats ear to “Get out of there!” . With the passion she had in her voice it made me think of her possibly having said that before to someone else that was actually in real danger perhaps someone she lost to that danger...?
im like pretty sure she also has severe agoraphobia or a related anxiety disorder
