I've noticed a lot of people saying that Beck and Jade count as an interracial couple. I know Avan Jogia is half Indian, but is it ever stated that Beck is?

@@merasi1 It does. TV shows have a habit of casting POCs and having their character be white in shows. Tyler Lockwood from The Vampire Diaries is a prime example of this. Julia Wicker from The Magicians is another as well as Josie Saltzman from Legacies. All actors are POCs, but their character on the show is white. With that kind of history it can't be assumed that Beck is also half indian just because Avan is.

What always annoyed me about Andre, was the fact that when he would get a big opportunity ie: to perform for a music producer or enter a contest, he would always tell Tori I’ll only do it if you do it with me” these opportunities literally only benefit him and it doesn’t makes sense for him to not go for it just because of Tori.

André should’ve gotten much more screen time. There have been more than a few times where I actually saw myself in him, especially considering he’s black. He was definitely the most sane out of all the characters.

i find it super interesting that andre is supposed to be best friends with beck, but it's very obvious that tori is his best friend. they hang out everyday, they make music together and perform together, they help each other with school and relationship problems, and he stayed with her when he couldn't take living with his grandma anymore. i think it's an interesting choice that andre would go stay with tori and her entire family rather than just beck in his rv, y'know? i actually think jade has a lot to do with it. obviously her and andre are friends and get along very well, but i imagine that beck had to start making more time for her, therefore less for andre.
honestly i wish we could get more glances back into what their friend group was like before tori. even before beck and jade dated. do you think they were all friends already or that the group came together when beck and jade did? jade and cat are best friends, that checks out. andre and beck are best friends, also checks out. the only one i have questions about is robbie, but i think it's possible he was friends with andre and/or beck before anyone else. i can for sure see either them hanging out with robbie bc they felt bad, and then it just stuck. and they all became a group, and eventually tori joined after meeting andre and being accepted into the school

Honestly I feel like Robbie was friends with cat before anyone else in the group and Beck and Andre got closer later. Also since cat and Robbie are friends Jade tolerates him more than she would've otherwise which eventually led to Jade sorta slightly caring about robbie
Thank you for mentioning the fact that it was refreshing to see that Tori and Andre remained as friends. Throughout my childhood, I could only name a few shows where the female lead doesn't end up with the male best friend. I felt like Tori and Andre really reinforced the idea that women and men can remain completely platonic!

I think it's funny how everyone remembers Victoria Justice appeared in iCarly as Shelby Marx but people forget that Leon Thomas was in iCarly as Harper (and reluctantly as Zeebo).

The Shelby Marx episode was one that was hyped up and iirc even got its own DVD release with Victoria Justice splashed across the front. The episode where a studio executive tries to adapt iCarly for TV, and the trio end up quitting because of all the enforced changes, wasn’t given any hype and treated like a regular episode with Leon not given a heap of prominence as a guest cast member. Victoria Justice was promoted as the big guest star in a two episode storyline which closed out as the fiftieth episode of the show and closed off the second season.
I always remember Leon Thomas in iCarly, his solo in it was just so fantastic! I was so happy to see him years later as Andre.

@Legend Killer iFight Shelby Marx first aired in August 2009 while Victorious started in March 2010, so it’s possible the guest appearance was a way of keeping Victoria Justice in the spotlight while transitioning from Zoey 101, where she played a main character, to Victorious since the show was in large part a vehicle for her stardom, Nickelodeon’s answer to shows like Hannah Montana and Sonny with a Chance. Much like Hannah Montana the title character shares a name with the lead actress, ideal for public recognition.

Yeah true both of the POC in this show were disregarded in some sense lol. I guess it was good that at least Beck and Andre were likeable and cool characters rather than the goofy characters/caricatures that POC usually play in these shows.

Dan Schneider was the only person casting black people (especially as a main/lead cast member level) on Nickelodeon for his 26 years there

The way they potrayed the black women in victorious was absolutely unacceptable and just assigned their character to every harmful stereotype there is on black women.

the black women portion, i agree to some degree; all side characters, especially the non white ones were heavy aggressive stereotypes (the Asians, Latinos; so we need to page him for that too) he did clean up his act with Charlotte of Henry Danger tho. her being a dark skin genius girl was pretty avant-garde on his part.
Dude a Sikowitz video would be amazing, his character is all over the place in the best kinds of ways sometimes and these videos have become something I look forward to a lot.

"Dan Schneider posted on his blog that the reason we see Jade and André bolt offstage after Tori hits the chancellor in the eye is that the actors who play them, Elizabeth Gillies and Leon Thomas lll, were under 18 at the time and child labor laws prevented them from working past a certain time limit/number of hours."
The most “normal” members of the group in Andre and Beck are also the ones who are least explored. Don’t think that’s a coincidence.

Interesting that Andre is only shown to to have good relationships with white women. His relationship with his grandmother is strained, we don’t see his mom, and when he dates black women they are always dehumanized in some way and it isn’t a good relationship. I think this goes to show how the writers *ahem creepy Dan* view black women and projected it through Andre

Here's how I'd describe André. Most of the time his chill and laid back. His the nice guy in a good way. His the bestfriend to everyone. But he has temper issues. He also doesn't mind using others to reach his goals.

Andre deserved way more. He was always paired with Tori and rarely had alone time to shine. He would literally write every song for Tori. Not to mention, in one episode, Tori literally STOLE one of Andres songs that he was supposed to perform solo and in the end the BOTH Tori and Andre performed.
As much as I like him being the least problematic, that's the problem. He felt more like the token black best friend.
Facts
Something I wish the writers did in the show is if they made Andre Tori’s vocal coach. It would’ve given Tori much more vocal ability and he was very persistent with her performing Make It Shine and staying at the school.

I wouldn't say he's a Mary Sue, yeah he's very talented but he has flaws (being a perfectionist to the point where he gets upset over things that aren't that bad, lack of control over his emotions, etc). I dunno, I feel like too many characters get called a Mary Sue just because they're competent.

here are my thoughts on this video:
1. this was so well made! i always enjoy your victorious videos.
2. about the thing with andre helping tori constantly, although that’s true, it could also be the other way around. he often asked her for help with music. the only time she said no was when she had to pass that exam (jade gets crushed episode). i’m a big tori vega defender so i just wanted to make that clear.
3. i ship tori and jade more than any other character ship in the series, but i also wish andre and jade could’ve gotten together at least for a little bit. in jade gets crushed, they got along so well. i’ve never cared for beck and i think he actually encouraged jade’s “toxic” behavior, whilst blaming her for being the toxic one at the same time. beck often gaslighter her. andre wouldn’t have treated her like that.
4. i hope in the future you can do an Andre/Cat (platonic) relationship video!! their friendship is so interesting to watch. he was always so protective of her and always made time to listen to her ramble about nonsense. it was so cute.

André is easily one of my favourite characters (not my number one favourite, but still on the list of my favourite Victorious characters).
Also, notice that out of all the *main* Victorious characters, Tori's analysis is longer than the others with just 20 minutes. How about that, eh?

Love this channel. It's one of my favourites now, and I just found out about this channel yesterday. Your voice is very calming, you're really good at analyzing and you are such an understanding and calming person when it comes to mental health. Can you please try analyzing Plankton or Mr. Crab from SpongeBob? I used to hate him so much when I was a child, but now that I look back at him, he seems to be hiding something. And also Mr. Crab. I used to think that Mr. Crab is a self-centered and addicted character when I was little, but I feel like there's some things to open about him, especially his mental health.

Leon Thomas actually did write Countdown, Song 2 You, and 365 Days. Also, found out Michelle Branch and Natasha Bedingfield wrote a song on the third Victorious album. Also, I do agree with your second reason why you didn't think Tandre should have happened (the other two not so much). I still believe Tandre didn't happen because of race though Beck and Tori would have been an interracial couple as well. Also, if he didn't like dating Hope, Jade would not be much better. You're right he didn't do much with Beck or Robbie. I wish the writers did a better job with that.

If you're still taking Victorious request, could you do a video on Andre and Beck being one character and how that would effect the group dynamic. Especially when it comes down to Jade-BeckDre-Tori.
Jade and Andre would be great, like you said. You still get the "will they, won't they," with Tori. You get a greater dynamic with who Andre sings with and how it affects the other girl each time. The Tori Goes Platinum episode gets heavier. And even the Trina drama could be sprinkled in since Tori "never" showed feelings for Beck like Trina did.
All in all, the dynamics would change and the drama would be off the charts by simply combining 2 characters into 1.

One notable instance where Andre had an opportunity to do something bad, but did not, was when he had a crush on Jade but did not tell Jade or Beck about it. He told Tori. Him having feelings for Jade was in no way any sort of injustice. You cannot help it if you have feelings that don’t make sense. A real man can suppress his urges. In that regard, Andre Harris is a real man. When he had these feelings and knew that acting on them would be unethical, he sought help from Tori. By doing this, he was expressing his emotions in an appropriate place at the appropriate time.
