    You can stay in the random flat colour mode, if you don't like the colour (or several same colours are given to different objects), just add any letter or number to the object name and the colour will change to another, and so on until you find the colour you want (the colour is generated based on the object name). You can also combine several objects into one shape (ctrl+j) and the last object that was selected during the merging will take this colour for the entire group of objects.
    I also recommend that in the settings at the bottom where "color management" there is an option "use curves", turn on this option and drag the centre point down, thus immediately increasing the contrast of colours (which will reduce the chances that Photoshop will get confused in similar colours).

    Yes! Finally! This! This is what I couldn't find anywhere! How to proprerly make a clown pass controlling the colors and everybody else swows how to set random colors but with random colors you may end up with contiguous objects with the same colour, but this solves it.

    Thank you so much. I've seen a lot of CGI artists use this technique. But it was only through your video that I realized how they do it.

    That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! I'm migrating from MODO, on which is just a matter of dragging an alpha channel into the desired material or object you want to mask, and it can save the render in PSD with all masks included.

    Any tips on how to tackle the shadows?

    • @POLYCOSM
      @POLYCOSM  3 года назад +1

      There is a shadow pass, but it’s not very detailed (you get everything lumped into either white or black - check out my other QT video for this). There also is an Ambient Occlusion pass, but unfortunately that’s as much as I know. 😬

    Thank you i was looking for this well kept gem i knew would exist somewhere but the whole color code is a kind of well kept secret and i was wondering what was the quickest way to assign color to my object in a way i don't necessary have to go manually and paint every object myself the randomize option will be so useful for concept art using a 3d underlay.

  • @coffeediction

    But what about blender NOT grouping stuff however it wants and have a random color assigned which isnt used yet, while NOT changing the actual materials of my objects. Because the project is linked? Because that is the situation Ive ran into and I cant absolutely find a way to render color masks of each object without changing their material.

      Try using criptomattes, this video ruclips.net/video/OykO2GkSyUo/видео.html explains how to use It in fusion but you can do the same on ps
