@@FootballIconic Nah - Busquets is *criminally underrated* - everyone who watched football in the past 20 years knows that. Busquets was the third of that iconic trio of Busquets-Xavi_Iniesta. You had to be insanely good to be there. The problem for Buquets is that he was playing in an era where Iniesta was ahead of him for any award conceivable, and so was Xavi, and so was Ronaldo, and so was Messi - I think if Busquets played in this era he would easily outshine the likes of Rodri. Still, I genuinely do not think Rodri deserved this one. But hey, this is what the Ballon d'Or is all about: it is not a god given final decision on who was objectively better. It is a decision that a select group of people came to, using their own reasons - some of those reasons may be whack - we just got to live with that, and hold to our own opinions. You think rodri didn't have those ready? You think he just went back to the hotel after the ceremony? Hating vinicius for having a party and sponsors is non sense
@@gunter6377 I don’t hate him, I don’t care enough for him to do that. I respect him football wise, but especially in this day and age I personally prefer people who don‘t feel the need to celebrate their stardom all the time. The fact, that Real Madrid (except carvajal) were such sore losers that they didn’t even attempt the ballon D‘or or congratulate Rodri, doesn’t make me sympathize with them or vini though.
@@taaaaaaaazzzzzz “I don’t care enough for him to do that” In other words, you do hate him, you just want to mask it with disdain. Besides, Rodri did party after the award, there are videos of him partying after the ceremony, still in crutches, and actually mocking Vinicius with the rest of the City squad. This was streamed in City’s own Instagram account, and the feed cuts off immediately as Rodri joins the ridicule of Vini. So much for that reserved personality of his. And what kind of criteria is this for choosing the best perfoming footballer of the year? I understand that fairplay is the last metric used by FF to choose a winner, but it has never been a deciding factor ever before, specifically with nearly as much emphasis as today. Hell, just look at Dibu Martínez, who is a much bigger muppet than Vini and Rodri put together, yet he still accumulates awards. The standards that are being levied against Vini are entirely unprecedented and obviously contemptuous of actual fair comparison. Much worse players on the pitch clinched closer awards before, such as Pavel Nedved, whose career is marred by constant hard tackling, fouling, diving and disciplinary issues, to the point that he missed the most important match of his best season because he was booked. But these facts were NEVER even considered for any other competing player before this award. Now we have these ridiculous lengths that some people will go to try and claim that Rodri edged over Vinicius due to fairplay and attitude, when Rodri is a well-known constant cynical fouler who gets booked often and cannot ever take shit from anyone else, not from refs and not from other players, and frequently disparages and argues with them on-field. Meanwhile Vini, at worse, “throws tantrums” that overwhelmingly owe to the treatment he’s received ever since he got in Spain. First from his own teammates, then from the scandalous, unceasing and illegal racial abuse that is hurled at him time and time again, that authorities refuse to properly acknowledge or address, and instead ignore it with contempt in the hopes that doing so will avoid hurting La Liga’s and UEFA’s image in the eyes of consumers. In order to behave like this, they have to act like Vini’s behavior is simply spontaneous, and not a product of how much racism and cruelty have been inflicted upon him since he moved to Spain in his late teens. So not only is Vini’s behavior decontextualised while metrics of “good behavior” are applied ONLY to him, that have never been and continue not to be standards for other players (such as the aforementioned Dibu and Rodri himself), but they try to artificially improve Rodri’s reputation by passing off personal facts that have nothing to do with football as fairplay. “He has no social media accounts” and “he has a college education” were arguments used by actual FF journalists who voted for Rodri, and who sometimes excluded Vini from the top 10 even, one such being the Polish elector. What the FUCK do ANY of those things have to do with FOOTBALL? Let alone fairplay in football? These are rhetorical questions, they have nothing to do with football or fairplay. They’re not even good behavior per se. Getting a college education is a somewhat exemplary thing, but not having social media? How does that make you a better person in the eyes of the public? And even if “setting an example in personal life outside the pitch” suddenly became a criterion in voting, which has never been and continues not to be a factor for other players, how would it even make up for Rodri’s behavior as player? And how are they any better than Vini’s consistent and outspoken campaign against racism and frequent donations and aid to impoverished children in his home country of Brazil? People genuinely just made shit up to justify Rodri.

a complete ghost that completely destroyed Paraguay. Who suffered a very clear penalty against Colombia that was not scored. A penalty so clear that CONMEBOL itself went public to say it was a mistake. Don't get me wrong Vini was bad at COPA AMERICA but not as bad as they say. In the first game he created 3 very clear goal chances and his teammates lost. The Brazilian team is horrible, but not because of individual talents, there is a much bigger problem. Do you think that if you put Rodri in the Brazilian team he would solve it? Vini Wouldn't playing for Spain help the team? Rodri was voted best at EURO in a totally controversial way. The perception that he was not even close to the best in Spain is quite clear to anyone who follows football and commentary on the subject. Rodri was not even included in the selection of the 11 best in the Premier League. He is an excellent player, but the best player in the Champions League was Vini. The game against Granada to overtake the leader of the competition in La Liga was a masterpiece for Vini. Anyone who wants to think that everything is in order is talking BS.
Brother while I agree that Vini was the best player in the Champions League, it wasn't really an EXTRAORDINARY performance by him, we've seen top players perform in the CL quite a lot of times, even most of the times when it comes to Ballon D'Or winners really. And last season was an international tournament season, we can't just simply undermine that and pretend those tournaments don't matter. They matter, and in my opinion, they matter as much as the CL. That's why they're only played every few years. Same with the world cup. And not only that, but Vini missed like 20 games last season. It wasn't really as clear as day as people thought, I know it's kind of unfair, but just think that Vini's season when it comes to G+A would've been Messi's, Cristiano's, Lewandowski's, Neymar's even Suarez's worst season at the top level. Vini could've won it, but just as much as Rodri imo, it wasn't really a robbery. That conclusion is perfect, don't lose sleep either way. If not this year for him, I do see it coming to him in the future. I care about watching my club play and win games far more than I care about the Ballon d'Or, and I think we all should. It is important to recognize players when the awards ceremonies come around, but awards ceremonies are not why I love football.
The other thing that keeps getting mentioned, when deciding the winner of the ballon d'or is sportsmanship. Saying Vini cries there and here is a serious understatement and everybody knows that. Real Madrid is a entitled organization with high expectations and that only makes it worse. Rodri compared to Vini has much more humility, and that's just a fact. Character made a serious impact on the final decision. PS: some great comments about the Real Madrid preparation to the award.
Not even about who's better as a player but Vini and Madrid absolutely deserved this after the non-stop disrespectful attitude and embarrassing victim mentality, when the entire UCL run was filled with questionable moments that favoured them and i'm saying that as someone who loved watching them before Kroos left.
my theory (just a theory, probably not true) is that UEFA pulled rank with France football to do one over Real Madrid, by knowingly getting false information out that Vini was the confirmed winner to hype them up so that on the day of the ceremony they could embarrass them. The fact that they were showing memes of Vini on the official stream is quite interesting. I was more convinced of this when apparently, they informed Rodri he was winning, who informed City, who later informed Real. The plan was to let them believe Vini won so they could mock them in front of the whole world watching that day as revenge for the Super cup drama. And if this is true then I definitely support Perez's decision not to travel to protect Vini from these guys, and the whole team for showing support.

It's pathetic and this type of behavior should be reprimanded
So are we gonna ignore the fact that the UEFA president has leaks just hating on Perez with the La Liga president? No real Madridista supported the Super League, but Perez exposed how hypocritical these organizations are and they've hated him since. UEFA being a part of this new Balon Dor hosting and this happening is no coincidence. PLUS there's been talks about Real Madrid boycotting the club WC as well. To compare it with a historical event. Many uneducated people claim that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was the reason WWI started, but any real historian will tell you the pot had been stirring for a long while, there just needed to be a reason for action to be taken. This is in a sense the equivalent of what happened. The waters have been sour between Real Madrid and the Spanish FA + UEFA for a while. There just needed to be a reason to let that water flood out. Vini being "snubbed" is that reason. This isn't "spoilt brat" attitude. To them it's retaliation. And look what the no show of Real Madrid has done. It has caused the biggest doubt of the award EVER, with more people liking a Camavinga post than the actual Balon Dor winning post.
I'm just glad more people are aware of this type of things coming from them. The've been this way for decades, and honestly I think it mostly comes down from the president.
@@animamaster if he hates the president he'll probably think twice about awarding it to a player pertaining to his club. Are you stupid or did you not read the top part of his comment?
It's a simple case of Vini and Jude splitting credit for best player on the best team, so an undisputed best player for a slightly worse team gets the award
Why do people say vinicius was robbed of the ballon dor? He ghosted playing for brazil. Rodri had a better season and he is a crucial player for both his club and international team. Madrid fans have no knowledge.
Vini is the best player in the world plain and simple. Everyone knows it. Just like when other people besides messi or ronaldo were saying that they deserved it but they still gave it to ronaldo or messi because they were the best players. Rodri didn’t even win player of the season with city. And in the euros there were like 5 players in Spain on the same level as him.
Rodri has been City’s best player 3 seasons in a row indisputably. This season was no exception, couple that with his monster euros and you have a Balon d’or winner it’s pretty simple. Vini has barely played half the matches Rodri has
Rodri has been outstanding for seasons. Let's not pretend this award is just judged for a single season. I cannot comprehend how Madrid boycotted the ceremony with the first Spanish winner in over 50 years?
last season he's not even included in the player of the season for the premier league nor the champions league but oh yesh suddenly hes the greatest player in the calender year
@@4everyonesafety I understand why vini fans are upset. He's never going to win it. After Barcelona humbled them they realised very quickly that la liga is probably out of their grasp for the foreseeable future. Can they win the champions league? Maybe. Will mbappe get the nod over vini if they do? Likely. And we all know brazil are massively in decline. So that's also an available avenue lost to vini. It's sad. But that's how it is. Luckily footballers careers aren't defined by an award.
@@4everyonesafetykeep a straight face and reply to me saying Declan Rice was better than Rodri last season. TOTS is fan voted ffs it’s a joke to include in your argument
Liked the Lewandowski comparison. Heres a guy who was robbed blind once, most likely twice. He is there. Applauding. Giving his competitors the respect they deserve.
Rodri winning it was complete no-sense. First, he was nowhere near the favorites by June. If you check all power rankings, bookmaking odds, etc, you wont see him near the top 5. In fact, City fans were all hyping Phil Foden, who won the PFA POTS award. So in 1 month he suddenly became a top contender? This looks way more like an anti-madrid propaganda trying to rise a rival to a Madrid player rather than he actually having an outstanding season. Also, I've seen so many people bringing up what he achieved in the 22/23 season... was this a compensation award for him then? His POTT award at the Euros was rubbish too. In Spain there were at least 4 players better than him: Yamal, Williams, Fabian Ruiz, and Olmo. So, how can someone be the best player in the world when he was not the best player either for his club or country? As for Vini, like you mentioned, was the most clutch player in the season by far. Not just in UCL, but also in the Spanish Supercup and LaLiga. I can name a bunch of matches which he grabbed the other team by their neck and won the match: top of the table clash against Girona, Barcelona, Valencia, etc. In his last 19 matches of LaLiga in 23/24 he got 14 G/A, which definitely helped Madrid to secure the title. And in the Spanish Super Cup final, he scored a hat trick against Barcelona, becoming the Brazilian with most goals in El Classico (surpassing the likes of Neymar, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Romario, etc). And in the UCL, he was undoubtedly the POTS: having a G/A in all KO stages, deciding the matches and later winning it by scoring in the final. Leaving the numbers aside, if you watch his matches you see how impactful he was even when he didnt have a direct goal contribution, like the 2nd leg against Bayern Munchen. Anyway... the whole world was pretty sure he was going to win it. That's why there are so many players and legends speaking out - not only Madrid affiliates or Brazilians, btw: Ribery, Rafael Leao, Edourd Mendy, Lewis Hamilton, Lemina (Tottenham), Aurier (Rayo Vallecano), Atalanta's coach.... the reaction of the people out and inside the gala says it all too. This was an absolute robbery and they set up the whole thing in an attempt to humiliate Vini. Thank god he didnt show up
Rodri ist probably the best player in the world right now, if you go by the impact on the teams he played in. Yes, Vinicius scored a lot of goals, but Rodri ist utterly indispensable tp the teams he plays in. He's the best 6 in the world by a landslide. Vinicius isn't even the best forward in the world right now.
last season he's not even included in the player of the season for the premier league nor the champions league but oh yesh suddenly hes the greatest player in the calender year
This whole situation is way overhyped and over-discussed. Why is Real Madrid so focused on what journalists, team captains, and managers think? This vote includes opinions from various people with different backgrounds and perspectives. If the voting process and results are public information, how could it be biased against any one player? He clearly came in second. Instead of pointing fingers, they could consider the fact that Bellingham was also a candidate, which may have split the points. Why does a Spanish team care so much about a French award? They hype these awards up but then complain about not winning. What can the Ballon d’Or organizers do if the votes just came out this way? The whole episode just shows the entitlement here is off the charts. This is a classic example of dumb soccer players with no formal education to have so much money and no maturity to think logically and filled with entitlement and victim mentality. Added to this the team management feeding into this.
@@RSainman Rodri made fun of Vini after the award. He even received more cards than Vini. And he didn't want to take a penalty during the ManCity vs Madrid shootout.
Another interesting note: Rodri is among a generation of footballers sandwiched between Messi/Ronaldo and Mbappe/Haaland; which boasts the likes of Neymar, Hazard, Kane, Salah, VVD, Allison, etc. Players that, while not bad, were overshadowed by their predecessors , and even more so by the current young generation. Neymar, VVD were amongst the closest to winning the Balon Dor against Messi/Ronaldo. While Vini Jr, Mbappe, Haaland, Yamal, etc. are touted to win one in the future. So, to me at least, this felt like an award that was overdue to those 90’s players. We really needed that for our generation 😭🥹

“I don’t care enough for him to do that”
In other words, you do hate him, you just want to mask it with disdain.

It wasn't really as clear as day as people thought, I know it's kind of unfair, but just think that Vini's season when it comes to G+A would've been Messi's, Cristiano's, Lewandowski's, Neymar's even Suarez's worst season at the top level. rodri as a dm, was instrumental in city winning another prem, helping city to another deep run to the semis, helping spain win the euros (was he the best player no but to say he wasnt important is stupid). one of if not the best DM in the world and in terms of his offense contributions, only had 3 less then vini FOR A DM which is AMAZING!

well vini didnt win la liga player of the season, it was jude
if anything jude should feel some type of way, carried that madrid offense for half of the season, contributed to almost the same amount of goals as vini in the CL, and scored a goal in the euros that helped england make it to the finals, jude has done more for england in that one euros then vini has done for brazil in his entire career for playing for them
florian writz, 22 goal contributies, helping leverkusen win the league and cup FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE CLUBS HISTORY. undefeated and only losing 1 game which was the europa league final WHICH HE WAS GREAT IN. he was also solid for germany in the euros, again just better then vini in international play
lautaro scored the most goals in the league, won serie a and the supercoppa. was instrumental in argentina winning the copa america and scored 5 goals, scoring the winner in the final beating a colombia that didnt lose a game IN 2 YEARS. only slight for him is the champions league where inter was unfortunetly eliminated to atletico madrid in the r16

U are disgrace clearly dont see any matches of football. Vini was robbed he doesnt Win because of outfield behavior, in field no one is better than him no one was more decisive than him. It's also the situation around it, not only him not receiving the award. Also, big guy, stop calling people losers just because they have a different opinion than you. the context of the competitions matters, you can't just judge by stats.
"Bro, Vini carried Madrid in the final half of the season, and international competitions were never this important until this year (the only one that truly matters is the World Cup). If it’s not Vini, then Carvajal won everything and was more crucial to the Spain national team than Rodri. They should literally give the award to the best player, and it’s clear that Vini was the most dominant player last season = the best player. I've seen an opinion about how people seem to give this award way more importance than it used to have since the Ronaldo and Messi era.
that's a stupid and ignorant opinion. It was important when Ronaldo won it (when you say "Ronaldo" it's Ronaldo Nazario, even CR7 calls himself "Cristiano"), it was important when Zidane won it, when Ronaldinho won it, when Kaká won it, when Figo, when Owen, when Cannavaro all won it. It was important back when players like George Best and Michel Platini won it. It's just the last decade that the award has progressively lost importance and credibility because nowadays public opinion is swayed by people fueled by internet-hate ,that are ignorant about the sport, and don't even watch the games outside of their own teams.
Vinicius Jr is today one of the greatest anti-racism activists in the world. This whole circus was set up on purpose to humiliate him, which is why he didn't attend. He has many enemies in Spain and Europe overall for not accepting silently racist insults every game and fighting against it.
They were sending him a message. They even cut him out of the photo from the "best team award".

I think it's great to see a defensive, or defensive minded player get top recognition. All the glory goes to the goal scorers.
Not even about who's better as a player but Vini and Madrid absolutely deserved this after the non-stop disrespectful attitude and embarrassing victim mentality, when the entire UCL run was filled with questionable moments that favoured them and i'm saying that as someone who loved watching them before Kroos left.
This makes no sense
wtf are you yapping about
my theory (just a theory, probably not true) is that UEFA pulled rank with France football to do one over Real Madrid, by knowingly getting false information out that Vini was the confirmed winner to hype them up so that on the day of the ceremony they could embarrass them.
The leaks were coming from Madrid's media hype machine. Very happy for Rodri and his family, pure class. Meanwhile, we saw the true colors of the brats at Madrid.

And many argue other players deserved it too (like Wiliams, Lamine yamal)
I really want people to try to remember as hard as they can that the only reason why Vini was “supposed” to win was because it was “leaked” that he was gonna win. No confirmation by anyone besides a leak.
And everybody was on the fence before that leak. It’s weird that football fans and players can’t remember things only 3-4 months ago
