actually when you have low number of mutalisk, you should always use patrol for 2 reasons: 1) patrol will make mutas target only one unit at a time, if you use hold command for your first 6 mutas, sometimes it will spread and you won't end up killing any marines at all 2) patrol comes first in SC's order of operations; the people who program BW AIs uncovered that the order which the game goes through commands is this: 1-patrol 2-Hold position 3-Stop 4-Attack the way to properly do patrol micro is have to: 1)approach directly toward target (straight foward, so the mutas are looking straight at their target... there is around a 30 degree acceptence window so it doesn't have to be perfectly straight) 2)press P to have the patrol command ready (but don't press left-click it yet) 3)the exact moment mutas are in range of their target, patrol-left click the ground 4) retreat with mutas (there were old korean guides on proper ways to retreat mutalisks to keep mutas stacked as possible, i think the TLDR of it was retreat at a slight angle different to the angle you approached it's surprising someone as good as you didn't explain this in the video
Great stuff. Really clear demo of which muta micro mechanic to use in different situations. The accuracy of move command is beautiful. I've always preferred to move command + left click target, then A + left click target (rather than right click target) so that if you misclick (A + left click) you can still attack something, compared to right click where you are just moving if you miss the target. Yes you sacrifice a bit of apm for this.
So if I have low apm and am bad, I should probably just focus on hold position, and try and make sure they're facing the right direction? Also, is it possible to post a link to the practice UMS map?
