      Victor Hall fans who didn’t read the books and that were fans of the movies at the time didn’t necessarily like Dalton and his serious tones as Bond and his films as they were used to Roger Moore after his 7 films in 12 years with his lighthearted take on the role. People have grown to like Dalton more in recent years including critics. Lazenby was not a fan favorite either at the time as they were used to Connery and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was a box office failure at the time was released in 1969 but he has received a following in more recent years as well and his movie has been more regarded as one of the best in the series

    Dalton made the best Bond films.
    His first was a great international espionage movie, his second an in-depth character study breaking away from the two dimension mold. Sadly, people back then still wanted their secret underwater bases and satellite death rays, so he was turfed and Brosnan stepped into the role (albeit, Goldeneye was awesome too).

    • @AlexOjideagu2
      @AlexOjideagu2 9 лет назад +8

      LordDyhalto That's not strictly true, Dalton was going to be in a third bond movie but the production money dried up and arguments over this and that so it was delayed. The money didn't come back until 1994-1995 and by then Dalton wasn't interested anymore.

    • @silverscreenreviews8521
      @silverscreenreviews8521 5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I would also add that by the time pierce stepped into the role and took inspiration from both Connery and Moore with a sprinkle of Dalton public opinion warmed to a darker harder edged bond so he had a better reception then Dalton did, Dalton was to early if anything, he was ahead of the Kerb and people weren’t ready for it.

      +JohnRooney Gaming Honestly, based on looks I'd say the BMW Z3 or Z8 were the best looking, but they didn't have the prestige or the popularity of the Aston Martins. By extension, it's like saying the Bugatti Veyron is the most beautiful car ever made, when actually it's pretty hideous, but also an automotive work of art.

  • @garrettdark9139

    There are a number of reasons Timothy did not do the third Bond.
    One being after so long of a break between Licence To Kill and the next one, they wanted Tim to do a lot more, which Tim did not. So they though it was a good time to usher in a new actor for the role.
    Its a shame the legal battle came about as I seen what was planned and looks like it could have been the best yet.
    I realty loved Tim's portrayal of Bond.

    • @STEFAZON500
      @STEFAZON500 8 лет назад +1

      +Garrett Dark Actually he was doing a third Bond in 1991, Property of a lady. Pre production began in late 1990 but it was halted to due to legal battles between MGM and UA that began when Harry Saltzman departed in the 1970's.

    • @garrettdark9139
      @garrettdark9139 8 лет назад +1

      +STEFAZON500 Yes I've read that as well.
      The Property of the Lady was also a title of Ian Fleming short Bond story that was included in an edition of a book that included The Living Daylights and Octopussy. It was also the name listed for the Faberge egg in the auction in Octopussy film.

    • @joshfish2
      @joshfish2 8 лет назад

      +Garrett Dark what was the storyline for property of a lady? I agree though, it's always a shame when a legal battle holds up any great franchise, by the sounds of it, if everything went according to plan after 1991 property of a lady, they would've had time for one last Timothy Dalton movie in 1993 before Brosnan came in. Although GoldenEye wouldn't have existed, or come after property of a lady anyway

    • @srb9
      @srb9 6 лет назад

      Timothy Dalton did not do a third 007 because he knew that MGM was trying to get him fired as they blamed him form License to Kill bombing in the USoA. MGM and EON sued each other. He put his career on hold and that hurt him.

    Rewatching this scene, I noticed a couple of things:
    - When Bond's car crashes into the wooden hut, there's no way that rickety piece of wood would have held him inside it!
    - If you compare how deep his tireless wheel is cutting at 2:50 to how thick the ice is at around 2:52, it looks a bit stupid.
    Even so, this is still one of my favourite Bond car chases, just cause I love the V8 Vantage.

    I love the look of determination on Dalton's face at 2:08 as he's preparing to drive into the ice fishing shack. "F*ck it. We're going through or crashing". LTK always used to be my favorite Bond film, with TLD 2nd favorite (And Dalton's my favorite Bond). But now, they alternate positions. Both are still my top two favorites of the franchise, no matter which one is at the top.

    Yep-- MG42; *STILL* used today in Germany today, only modernized and slightly modified, and then rebranded as the MG3--still doesn't explain why police/military in Czechoslovakia (which is where this happens, if I recall correctly) are using one, unless its a leftover from World War II that they seized and repurposed for their own use. Or, could be an actual MG3-- they started making them in 1960, 27 years before this (but still a *Western* machine gun, so the former's more likely-- old MG42).

    @SlayerDarth That is probably why Fleming wanted to put as very little gadgets as possible in his books. He wanted to show that a real spy, like him, didn;t have to rely on gadets to get themselves out of sticky situations. just their wits. And Q branch provided equipments, not really gadgets and Q, or Major Boothroyd was really an armorer based on a real life armorer. Funny how differently things are.
