Oh wow that’s great, especially with the built in brackets for supporting the whole box. Gorgeous idea for the brushes & water pail. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us! 💕
Given pine and ply are softwoods do you need to seal the final product against moisture damage from both oil paint and liquids such as water and solvents?
I like making my painting equipment myself, as I simply like it. Your presentation was adorable ("make sure it is going in the right direction!"), and inspired me. Thank You very much! Your husband must be a great guy if he shares his tools with his wife! 👍
Top job. Excellent clear video, Sarah. I have been twiddling about getting ready to make a pochade for plein air work and your video popped up. I very much like the fact that it's fundamental made from painting boards. I'm inspired!
Great design. And at 18:15 on the video it shows you placing a spare board on top, which would still fit inside the height..........well if that was a painted panel....and you put 4 push pin/tacks, one in each corner....you could carry a finished painting back from the field without it touching the top.
I would have like to have seen from the side and back how it was attached to the easel. What do those brackets actually hang on? Clever design and well thought out!
Great job, with a bells and whistles design. I've been doing something similar but a bit simpler in function. You could certainly take this to the next level and finish with Danish oil or Carnauba wax.
@@sarahpondevieart5563 yes! Weirdly though the boards are called 1x2, 2x4, etc but the actual measurements are at least ¼” smaller so the metric is closer to reality.
@@sarahpondevieart5563 those are expensive, did you choose that especially for the sturdiness? I see there are much cheaper ones but afraid they would be too weak?
Sarah this is so good! I live in North Queensland and have been looking at pochard boxes but they are so expensive and I’m not committed enough to plein air yet to justify the expense. I watched this with my woodworking husband and he is going to build it for me from your vid. Is there anything you would have changed after using it for awhile? Also I haven’t bought a tripod so any suggestions please? I will follow you on Insta too to see any other news on this. I love your wood burning art on the box! What a brilliant idea. You are one clever cookie.
Can you supply a written, illustrated instruction pdf. With supplies list. We have imperial measurements in America. Ill need to convert. Thank you this is great!!!
I am glad you like this! But illustrating instructions is a big job and this is a free video - it was a lot of work to create! But I wanted to share my process as I couldn't find anything that worked for me. I have the list of materials at 0:04 and the tools at 0:05, I then explain them in detail at 0:29 (tools) and 1:33 (materials),so you can take screen shots. I am always having to convert imperial to metric when following tutorials from the US, it is easy with google :)

I did seal the inside with wood oil, but now i use a plastic palette inserts so I can keep my paints fresh or swap out for my pastels - find this works really well.
This is awesome! and man saves so much money! you're a delight!
thank you!

I am impressed. I will be following your example and make one myself.

How perfect! You have inspired me to redo my plein air box. Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much!
that is great!
Thanks for this video. This helped me make my own box.
that is great! if you put a pics on Instagram tag me so I can see it :)
So clever! Great ideas and excellent clear instructions, thank you! 😊👍

they just hook onto the camera tripod, but that is a good point, I will take pics and put on my Insta.
This is so good! Thank you for showing everything!! 🙂😁😊
Amazing work you are so skilled still continue
I am artist painter I like making such tools myself thank you for your efforts
Great job I am making mine out of a cigar box and can use many of the elements you suggested
I use a cigar box as a min one too!
Great build! Bravo!
thanks!

Amazing. Thank you for sharing
no worries!
THank YOU ! I needed that !
Brilliant!!!! Thank you!!!
Looks like 2x4 is centimeters, imperial is 1”x2”.
Thanks Sarah!
I am not sure of the exact equivalent, I don't work in imperial, but I think 5cm is just over 2".

A 2 by 4 to me is 2" by 4". Huge piece of wood for house wall framing lol

This is fantastic! Is there a list of the materials you used anywhere?
hi, thanks, and yes, I have the list of materials at 0:04 and the tools at 0:05, I then explain them in detail at 0:29 (tools) and 1:33 (materials).
Ha! Yes...I guess I should have said written list. But no worries- have already made a similar one! Thanks for the ideas.
How deep were the edged od your studio boards. I just bought the 12 inch x 16 inch with thick edge profile of 38mm. Thinking it may be too deep?
mine were 2cm, but I also work in pastels, and that is not deep enough for them - so I would also do one with 38mm profiles for them!
Nearly finished box. Just doing brackets to hold on to tripod. I have pre glued mine then they won’t move about when drilling the screws in.
Ps. I found your video very easy to follow. Thank you for sharing with us.
