  • Today we check out the finished Frog Light farm (I might add more Iron Golems into the center). We collect some honey as we build up a giant Honey Farm in the End. Then we head to the Underground Jungle to work on Bee Queen and Plantera's Lairs.

      I really, really hope Etho does another Terraria series; when 1.4.4/1.5 comes out would honestly be a perfect time for it. I really want to see him either with a buddy like Zisteau or even alone (because solo terraria has quite a different vibe to it) just roll through a series again and explore the cool new stuff that's been added/going to be added. The changes they're making/made to swords, to summons, (whips are AWESOME) the general balance changes and plentiful weapon glow-ups, the whole pylons system, the new bosses 1.4 added, and so on... The fact you can get both crimson and corruption in one world now with the graveyard dryad trick is surprisingly big, too.
      Heck, maybe he could play on one of the goofy secret seeds that's been released to change things up a bit if it still feels too familiar.
      I know his non-minecraft content doesn't usually do all that well and that's a sad truth of youtube, but I still hope for it either way, I really enjoyed how when he and Zisteau played together they didn't just boss-rush the game, they organically played through stuff but also actually *built* nice things and made their world feel familiar by doing so.

    20:52 for smoother transitions between block types, it's helpful to either:
    A) sprinkle in random block types, such as a random path block in sand, and a random sand block in path region, OR
    B) have streaks of block types that "intrude" into the other type, such as a row of sand into path/dirt (as if sand was blown over by the wind)
    Other block types that could be used in this transition is logs: perhaps birch (sand), oak (path), and spruce (coarse dirt).

    The sandy city really needs more desert around it, because it seems out of place. You should expand the biome and make it look a bit more natural on all sides.
    For the transition you might want to just mix grass and sand, make it look like they blend into each other. Huge rocks or dried trees will also make the transition smoother.

    Hey Etho,
    Those terraria screenshots sure did stir up some nostalgia! I know it has been asked before, but would you consider a new terraria let's play? I think that the upcoming mod called Starlight River looks like something that would make the game feel fresh and new! It also is something that you could be on top of right when it comes out so it doesn't feel like it's been done by too many others to be worthwhile.

      i don't know if that can be a possibility, unfortunately. Ethos comments on the Terraria videos were just people telling him what to do. As time went on, it became more and more harsh to the point where he had to respond to some of them. He doesn't really seem like he was too keen on continuing another play through.

If it happens that would be very cool but there doesn't seem to be any chance. (Unless of course its modded)

    You have to combine the course dirt with other things like patches of dirt sand grass, rare gravel patch, pits, tall grass, tiny roadside hills and paths that connect to an infrastructure. Random path blocks out in the middle of nowhere don't make sense since they are trodden grass and implies that something often tramples the grass in the area and disallows healthy growth

Recently illness has left me more or less bedridden, so I went back to the beginning of your lets play season 2, at the beginning of the year, and have finally caught up to current day. I just wanted to congratulate and thank you on all of the work you have done to your world. I think my favorite part was the biome enhancement project, where I got to see the world slowly develop from the boring standard Minecraft world into the world I was familiar with today. So thank you for producing so much entertainment. P.S. Good job finishing all of those projects, keep up the good work.

There was a time when Etho would have said he wasn’t great at building or note blocks and know he is insanely good with them. 1. the fact that Etho is making this really shows how much terraria means to him. which is cool because we usually just hear him talk about minecraft. But it's cool he's dedicating his time and creativity for this design.
    2. crazy nostalgia hearing him talk about terraria. that was years ago. so much has changed since he made that series. and also makes me think of Zisteau a lot. I remember the final episode they turned on each other and fought 😂.

    Blocks that 'interrupt' the border will make it look less unnatural - like large trees and rocky formations,. Also, in real life sand spreads through wind (so you can get some beautiful windswept streaks) so you could implement that for a 'less clean/more natural' edge of the desert.

Kind of like Evil Wilson or Spaz with a health bar, you could have a crazy redstone contraption randomly do different attacks while you have to do something to damage the boss. some structures or "natural" formations will help transition between desert and grass. I love building in desert cause I'm a Dune nerd, so I'll often add water streams, some acacia trees, and small gardens or farms, to create a sort of natural oasis look. Nothin big, just enough to stand out on it's own and hide the biome transition. Small structures to give life to the outer walls like maybe a wagon caravan with tents underneath ancient archaeology, will hide the grass to sand transition, too.

    Hey Etho! About the lag concerns of your bee farm:
    You mentioned that lighting updates are particularly laggy. Light updates have been multithreaded for a long time, and you can light up the area with normal torches/glowstone/whatever to make that a non-issue. It used to be a problem when it was on the main thread, and especially with slimestone where skylight is expensive, but as long as you light up around your redstone torches, that should be a non-issue.
    That doesn't mean torches are great, they are hard to use with rails/observers (cause they need a longer pulse), so often they are avoided because of dust, but repeaters and torches shouldn't be a lag problem.
    I've also heard that pistons (can) be laggy when there is a very large number of tile entitites (cause moving blocks are a tile entity, the game keeps a list of tile entities, and changing that list is expensive when it’s long).
    I would reccomend trying out mixing noteblocks into your observer chains to make them less laggy, cause half the observers means half the block updates, but really the main lag source here is going to be the hoppers, droppers, and dispensers, and all else will be negligible.
    Anyways, trying to lag optimize things can be a fun exercise when scaling up builds (I've done that a lot), but I don't think it's necessary in the context of honey farms, unless you want chests of shulkers of honey blocks for fun (which, while an acceptable goal, I don't think that's your goal)
    *TL:DR;*
    Torches not bad, pistons complicated, observer + noteblock > observer, doesn't matter anyway cause tile entities.

    Etho I'm pretty sure you don't need to lock the hoppers at all, since they don't do their laggy checking when there's a block with an inventory above them (the beehive in this case). This is why big builds often have a line of composters or furnaces above hopper lines :)

    • @mdccxxvii
      @mdccxxvii Год назад +1

    I'd say for the flying turtles-
    all of the above.
    slimeblock launchers for up & sideways
    dropping them with horizontal momentum (from a slime block for example)
    maybe also dropping them with slow fall potions. it would be best if they come from many different angles and go in different directions, as they always do that in terraria. you never know where one will come from

    For transitioning the plains into the desert, I think the best thing you could do is extending the grass further into the desert as it slowly turns yellow from the biome color. Also the further you go into the desert there should be added more and more sand into the mix, so it is slowly transitions from grass to sand

  • @JasonKlein97
    @JasonKlein97 Год назад +2

    For the transition between sand and non-sand areas, I like to imagine that the sand has been blown over the other terrain. I sprinkle sand almost like a gradient between the grass and sand. But I only do the gradient on the other side to simulate sand blowing over. It takes some fiddling to make it look organic but it's what I've found to be most effective. Other things I've done in the past are elevation changes, it looks less out of place if there's like a ledge of grass, or place something on top of the transition to hide it altogether. Build a path through the transition, and use different tricks to draw people's eyes away from the transition and towards what you've built. Hope this helps!
