    Hey Etho, probably won’t see this but I’ve been watching since you since you had around 7K subscribers, years and years of my life, my name is down on one of the mines from a donation. It’s my birthday tomorrow, I’ll be 27, you’ve been a massive part of my life. The quip about liking shooting the pillars for the End fight gave me a fantastic idea - an end crystal archery range! Just imagine the satisfaction of rolling along in a minecart, popping end crystals left and right! What if...
      What if the sniffer flowers fed to a brown mooshroom gave haste? It'd be short, and quite inefficient, and. Oh wait you wouldn't be able to get haste II.

    Using the End like a giant enderchest and enderchest loader is honestly so poetic, not to mention absolutely genius! Its nice to see such a neglected dimension get some love. An End base in the End, along with a spiffing up of the overworld End gateway base, might be a nice complementary project.

  • @StuffandThings_
    @StuffandThings_ Год назад +107

    Here's a good tip for you - if you don't go through the outer End gateways upon generating them, you can set up blocks out in the void and essentially "pick" the location for the other side to appear. Its very useful for projects like endermen farms or bases in the void between the main island and the outer islands. Its good practice to save a handful of outer End gateways for that purpose, you can block them off with like obsidian or something until you're ready to bridge out to the void and pick their generation location.

    There is a way to make 1-wide tileable 100% reliable shulker loaders: If you break the shulker box by zero-ticking a cauldron or composter into it with a sticky piston, the shulker box item spawns in the middle of the cauldron or composter hitbox and is trapped inside it. You can then retrack the cauldron or composter with the piston and the shulker box is pulled back, and can be picked up by a hopper. See the first section of cubicmetre's 5 storage innovations video for a visual of what I'm describing.

  • @haph2087
    @haph2087 Год назад +31

    Hey Etho!
    For the shulker hopper hopping problem, the solution is using a cauldron or composter.
    If you 0-tick pulse a piston to push a cauldron or composter into a shulker, it will break the shulker, and the item will spawn within the bounds of the cauldron/composter, and the walls of the cauldron/composter will restrict the item's movement to less than the bounds of the block. The cauldron/composter can then be slowly (non-0-tick pulse) pulled back to over a hopper.
    The problem is that hoppers are a bit generous with how big of an area they pick up items, so making sure the item is over the correct hopper isn't enough, the item must also not be near the edges of the wrong hoppers. Cauldrons/composters are the easiest way to do this.

    Wow! This episode embodied the essence of "Minecraft Done Technical"! Etho introduced a lot of new things in this episode by building into the background mechanics he uses to play the game, displaying the problem he wants to solve, and presenting a really thought out design for the solution. Excellent use of bringing up older project mechanics that've been done before and introducing them into the new project (kind of like seeing old programming code). Etho also did a great job at highlighting some key areas and functions of the redstone devices (mentioning the design name), explaining what they do, and how they all fit together. The cut outs of the designs were a really nice visual to understand it more. Then to top off an already excellent episode, he fights the dragon again to build onto the world! Was awesome seeing the end covered in the portals. Also Etho doesn't fight the dragon like most, he ends up chasing it down with his bow in the sky! It really showed how great he is at playing the game. The boss fights have generally just been him trying it for the first time, summoning them for testing, or some challenge. Also really nice addition for the dragon fight voice over.
    Can't wait to see the next episode and see more progress on the Endless Storage Room!

    I mean, how does someone even think of the hopper clock? Someone would have to think "what would happen if I put 2 hoppers facing each other and a redstone block moving back and forth.

    I find it so interesting how Etho's projects are genuine engineering projects. His systems encounter issues very similar to real-world ones, like scaling, resiliency, trade-offs in terms of cost/time/space, working with constraints, and so on. Methodologically, there is the need to plan at multiple scales, the draw of theoretically simple solutions that break down in practice, the need to learn from previous work.

    One potential issue is that the 5 hoppers that point into the shulker box can push items into the shulker faster than they pull items from the minecart -- i.e. they can always push items, but only have a minecart above them to pull from maybe 12% of the time. That could cause those hoppers to empty and lose their “filters” if you repeatedly swap out the same shulker without spending enough time in the End.
    One way to mitigate that would be to shorten the length of the rail section of the minecart loop. For example, making it a horizontal loop instead of a vertical loop means that you could have it pass under half the hoppers on the way out and the other half on the way back. That could cut the total round-trip time by 10-20% and reduce (but not eliminate) the likelihood of this failure state.
    Another way to mitigate this is to have multiple minecarts going in parallel along the loop, but that seems laggy and my gut feeling is that eventually they will get stuck together, which won’t help the hoppers pull any faster, or the carts will even stop moving completely.
    An insane idea would be to have 5 separate minecarts, 1 for each shulker-loading hopper, moving along 5 separate tracks, picking up only 5 different items each, but my brain hurts thinking about that.

    Building infrastructure in the end to take advantage of it being a "shared space" between all spaces in the overworld is such a cool idea I'm surprised I haven't seen it before. Nether travel is ubiquitous, but using the end is something I haven't seen. Another bonus is that the end is kinda a mostly-unused space, and even if you were using it, it comes with the 20 portals built in, which lets you spread things out easily without incurring travel cost; the combination of the two means that even if your 5000 hoppers and the minecarts and crap _do_ cause lag it doesn't really matter because it's not like it's loaded together with really anything else.
    One storage idea I've had for a long time but never really gotten around to prototyping is trying to have an incredibly low latency system that uses a menu chest like the Pixel or whatever, and then you drop an item from the chest and it goes and gets you a shulker box full of that item. A rudimentary version of this would just drop the item into a water stream which runs along sorters. Whichever sorter picks it up detects that and spits the item back out (so it can be sent back to the menu) and also a shulker box, which then gets added to a queue of shulker boxes to display in a slot (where the player can quickly choose to either pull some items out and then send it back or grab the whole thing).
    The problem with this is that if you have even single chests for your menus, that's gotta run along 27 sorters minimum to figure out what was selected, which takes at least like 5 seconds in the water stream, plus whatever latency your detector has (probably like a total second for everything). You can do return via instant dropper lines, and maybe you could cut down the travel time to ~3 seconds by using non-instant dropper lines for the sorters.
    Hmm. My point was gonna be "that's still annoyingly slow", but that's starting to look reasonably fast at ~4-5 seconds to get what a shulker box. The moment you need several items, the first ones will probably get there by the time you're done selecting them all.
    By hooking up some kind of restock to the selection chests, you basically get a storage system which has a (stack - 1) of each item quickly available (just grab all but one item from the menu) and then if you need more, it also provides quick access.
    Ideally though, you could like, slide a chest boat on ice or something so that it gets to pass over two sets of filters at once, speeding up the lookup process.

    I know this is off topic and you probably won't see this, but if Tango brings ravager tags back in decked out 2, you might be able to do a trade where you name a ravager for someone, and then lure the ravager to the entrance. This trade would probably have more value for people with less keys, so it would be better to trade with them. It only requires you to use a key and a tag, but the trade is worth many times that in the long run, especially if they're lacking keys. On top of that, you get the loot they might've gotten themselves during that run. You could also charge them the key and/or the tag so you get free runs!

    I feel that pain with the shulker loaders, when you break a shulker box i swear it wants to go everywhere but the hopper directly below it.
    On my friend's server we made a shulker box based bulk storage system. The only thing particularly special about it is that is presents the shulker boxes for you to take items from (just like what tango made at Grian and Scar's trading hall) and makes the dispenser & bottom chest accessible so you can take whole shulker boxes directly.
    I didn't follow any tutorials so it isn't the most compact or optimized redstone, but atleast its mine. (And it was a pain to make a lossless shulker loader that operates at double hopper speed)

      or like at 19:30 i think most storage tech overcomes the problem by breaking the shulker with a composter from the side, and then the shulker box item entity is retracted with the composter, from there a hopper can pull the item through the composter
      (idk why this works, i thought the item sucking feature of hoppers got disabled when theres a composter above them)

    One of the biggest regrets I have always had with storage systems is having the shulker box being loaded inaccessible. It's so frustrating when you have 26 stacks of an item inside the shulker box and none in the barrel, so you don't have access to them and need to break into the system to get the item. So I'm sorry but you will have to redo the system with accessible shulker loaders. And if you don't think it is going to be a problem, isn't it better to problem-proof it? Better be safe than sorry and I'm sure you will encounter this problem (you're probably not going to have more than 26 stacks of repeaters/dispensers/crafting tables)
