In the 1960s, I remember building sissy bars from pieces of re-rod. I used a gasoline blow-torch (it seemed as if it took forever to bend the bar stock). My early sissy bars looked awful but they held up my rear fender. I'd heat up the ends of the bar stock, and, with the help of an anvil and a 5 lb. hammer, I'd blacksmith the ends flat and then drill them out for the bottom mounting bolts. I used my grandfather's Forney arc welder to attach the fender braces. Back then, I didn't use any sort of jig fixture -- it was all accomplished via eyeball engineering -- crude as mud. When I got better at making sissy bars, I'd use 9/16 inch round or square cold-rolled (only) bar stock. Thanks, Irish Rich Ryan. Thanks, Jason Roche. You guys do pro work! Build safe/ride safe.

Yo would just flatten out the rod and it would hold good? I was wondering if that would work because I dont like the way the threaded bungs look. How would you attatch the fender to the sissy bar?

The top section is fabricated in 1/2" rod, the bottom section is 5/8" rod with small sections that have been bored out on the lathe so the top section slides in to be welded.

    Great job bro!
I just would like to know what size or caliber you're using for the main steel stick?
    Thank you very much!
