CS:GO/TF2 player here, I live for footsteps, they are VERY important because that kind of sound tells you what is around you. It let's you know an enemy is around and where they are if your headphones are good. Foley is more important than what you think!
I love how even the most hardcore fans didnt pick up on an early version of the sniper scope: 1:55 Looks similar to a tartakovsky clone wars style scope. Foley and a lot of sfx studios are really underrated.
"no body ever says man those were great sounding footsteps in that game" *cut to me and my best friend commenting on how we really like the sounds of footsteps and horse steps on the stone walkways in red dead 2*
yeah, that's totally me... i love to immerse myself in all kinds of games soundwise and listen to all the tiny details... at the moment i'm replaying dying light and The division 2 again and playing metro exodus for the very first time and BOI do all three games sound great!
I remember watching this originally in 2010 and loved to see the behind the scenes for the games it really showed how much effort and care they put into making these old games
My immersion was totally broken when I found this in the special features as a child. Though, this did make me appreciate the various underappreciated aspects that go into creating a game, especially a masterpiece like this one
@liesjeuh8 A hard effect is the actual sound using the actual materials. Like, recording rain falling. The foley effect is recreating the sound using other things. For rain you could maybe use rice falling onto paper. Hope that helps!
Fun fact: some granade and hologram sounds from this game can be heard in Rogue One
and in battlefront 1 and 2
I wish there was more than these three videos.. :/
The microphone she is using is a Neumann U87

Yeah this game was badass, only complaint was, it was far too short. Otherwise, totally stellar.
